20. Chapter Nineteen

Niall's POV

"Are you sure you don't want to go?" I asked Dalton one more time. He shook his head, the floppy curls resting on his head whipping around.  The fight was tomorrow and I had no one coming root me on. I was wishing he'd be just come to the thing so I'd at least have someone.

"No, I don't care for stuff like that," he explained. "Besides, what does it mean if I come?"

"That I get a fan." I grinned, poking his side. "You can be my number one...," I trailed off making my voice higher with each word. He crinkled his nose in annoyance, making me realize just how old Dalton was. He was fifteen and he seemed to be a stuck up brat now instead of the little kid who used to look up to me. "You know what? I don't even need you to come, I'll just ask Liam."

I had no idea what I was talking about, Liam was my best friend, besides Alicia, in high school. I hadn't talked to him in... years. Why would he just come to a stupid little boxing match?

"Okay, do that then," he huffed picking up his phone and scrolling through something. I turned on my heel and started towards his bedroom door. Maybe, just maybe I could get a hold of Li-

"Wait, Niall." I heard his voice stop me. I looked back at him and he shot me a half grin. "I'm sorry if I offended you, man. I just don't want to go, I have plans."

"It's okay, D." My hand ruffled his hair and he chuckled and fixed the wild locks.

"Can I ask you something, though?" I nodded and sat down on his bed. He looked at me, his cheeks slightly reddening before speaking. "I-Is fifteen....too young?"

I raised my eyebrows at his question. He was planning on having sex, but that was a big step got someone his age. Even though probably half of the high schoolers he studies with have had their V-card taken.

"For se-"

I cut him off. "I know what you mean," I paused. "You love this girl?"

"Yes, of course." I nodded pulling out my wallet and finding the aluminum package.

I tossed it to his lap. "Better use this, though."

He picked up the condom and grinned. "Thanks Niall."

I stood from the bed and headed towards the door. "It's no problem, Lil Dude. No problem."

"Niall!" Tatum shrieked enthusiastically, wrapping her small arms around me she looked to my face. "How've you been?"

Her green eyes were lined with way too much eyeliner. I'd seen many girls do it, she was just a bit too old for it. "Good. How've you been?"

"Great! I let Sydney do my makeup this morning. Doesn't it look fantastic?"

Oh, I see. Sydney was her fifteen year old daughter. She was the thick eyeliner, combat boot, screaming music type (a/n: sounds like me, lol). So her makeup made sense now.

"It looks great," I slyly lied taking a seat closest to the window. The snowflakes coated the window except for one spot. It looked as if someone was trying to peek inside.

I kept my coat on because I knew that the only thing hearing the office was a small space heater.

"How did the hospitalization do ya?" She asked, fixing the scarf wrapped around her neck.

"Great, actually. I made some...friends?"

"Yes, that's what they're called." We both laughed at her teasing. "But why are you questioning it, Niall?"

"Because, well, she sort of more then a friend." Tatum raised her eyebrows. "But it turns out she...she was lying to me most of the time."

"You didn't love her, did you?"

"No, of course not! I barely knew her," I paused when I saw her pull a bottle of Scotch of the shelf, along with two glasses. "I-I almost... touched her."

Tatum's eyes widened and she placed the small, half full glass in front of me. "Wow. Niall, clearly, she was just a fling. Not something permanent, you should just forget her anyways."

"She got me to start playing again." I sighed and took a sip of the alcohol. It burnt my throat on the way down. I crossed my ankles and looked up at her. Her greenish blue irises darkened as she stared down to the contents of her cup.

"That's quite an influence, don't you think? I mean you stopped because you only played for Alicia, and this girl-"

"Just got to my head," I cut her off, rubbing my temples from all the stress this single conversation was causing. Tatum stood from behind her desk and took a seat next to me. She put both of her hands on my knees and looked into my eyes in a calming way.

"Niall, it's okay to except the fact that you were falling for this girl. Even if she lied to you the entire time, you felt something. But, the feeling wasn't big enough for you to except her mistake, so you just assumed she was just getting to your head. When, truly, she was getting to your heart." she patted my shoulder and took the glass from my hand and placed it on her desk. "I'll let you think on that, I bet you want to leave now anyways."

"No, after those weeks... I got thinking," I paused making sure she was okay with me extending my appointment time. She just nodded for me to proceed. "Why didn't Alicia just live the last six months?"

Her eyebrows scrunched in confusion. Did she know about the tumor? Or did I not tell her before? And even if I didn't, wouldn't Alicia's parents bring it up?

"Last six months? Mr. and Mrs. Hollow told me that there was just the suicide."

"But, Alicia told me that she had a brain tumor and the doctor told her she only had about six months to live. They didn't say..anything?"

"No," she shook her head with a confused look in her eyes.

It didn't add up, she either lied to me or didn't tell her parents. And the first one seemed more likely. Why would she lie..? Unless, she had something to cover up.

I stood from the leather chair and headed towards the door. "Bye, Tatum," I slowly spoke, leaving the room. I had some thinking to do.
