5. Chapter Four

Alicia's POV

"No other wounds on the body except for the gunshot on back of the head?" I questioned Mason.

"Yes, ma'am." A cheeky grin fell on his lips. "I checked her over and so did Adam," he stated.

"You guys only want to look over the female. When it's a male victim you never do it." I pursed my lips and placed my hands on my hips.

"They're dead!" He laughed. "Besides...I'm uncomfortable doing the guys."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." I rolled my eyes and moved the sheet off the body. "Have you identified her yet?"

"Erm...yeah. Kirstie Geuro. She's sixteen, from....America. Moved here last year with her father and older sister ."

"Did you contact them?" I raised my eyebrows. My hazel irises scanned the bracelets wrapped around her wrist, when I spotted a cut in the separation of two of the accessories.

"Yes, they'll be here for a hearing in just two hours," he informed, tapping his pen on the wood of his clipboard.

"You didn't check quite enough," I said, barely audible. I slid my glove on and raised her wrist, examining the many cuts covering her porcelain skin. "She cuts, Mason. He didn't do it," I whispered.

I understood how this girl felt, because I too cut. Scars covered my stomach and inner thighs; where no one would see. I started using the blade more once I left my family.

"So, clearly...this girl was going through something," He announced, stroking his chin.

I set her arm down and faced him. "Not necessarily. Something could've happened before, sure. But, self harm can become addictive."

His eyes fell back onto his clipboard. "Says here that her parents divorced and she went with her father. But, her mum...she killed herself."

My eyes widened a bit. "Oh my."

He bit his lip. "Leah, don't get too emotionally caught up in these cases. It'll only make you unfunctional."

I gulped and faced the floor. "Okay

....," I slightly trailed off. His finger lifted my chin and he pressed his lips to mine for a short time.

"All better?" He questioned.

"All better." I smiled.

"Get back to work, love birds!" Spencer yelled poking his head into the room.

I giggled and did as told.

"How could someone be so sick? Do something so sinister?" The victim's father sat before us, along with his other daughter who was just crying, telling us his mind as tears flew down his cheeks. "It's just sick."

I'd heard this speech billions of times before, and so had Karla who was seated next me, enduring the lecture too.

"Did your daughter have any enemies? Anyone who disliked her at all?" Karla asked at the man.

"No," he admitted, shaking his head vigorously. "Not that I know of."

Karla proceeded by asking the sister who responded with the same answer.

Even though we practically knew these people didn't have anything to do with the murder, legally they were suspects. So, that meant that they would get the full on, testy questions, too.

"Where were you January 27th, Mr.Geuro?" I interrogated, getting my pen ready for the answer. I liked to take notes, even though the interviews were filmed.

"Do you think I had anything to do with this?!" He raised his voice, standing up out of his chair and slamming his hands onto the table.

"Sir, you are a suspect for a first degree murder. This required by law," Karla explained.

He slowly sunk back onto his chair, facing me. "At home. With Megan," he referenced to the female next to him. "Kirstie said she was going for a quick walk and then she'd be back. When she didn't return, I phoned the police."

I nodded, writing his every word down.

"I was afraid. Afraid that she ran away. But, now...I wish that that had happened instead. At least she'd be alive."

My parents think I'm gone; they probably felt the same way.

We concluded our questioning and let them go, my notepad was coated in notes as I exited the room.

Two arms wrapped around my waist from behind, making me smile. "Guess who?"

"Santa?" I bit my lip to hold back my giggle.

Mason made a buzzer sound. "Nope!" He nuzzled his face into my neck. "We haven't had a date in forever."

"So let's go in a date," I shrugged.

"I wanna make this one special, though." He kissed the corner of my mouth, before heading towards Adam. They were about to watch the tape of the interview. He threw me a wink, making me blush.

"Get back to work," Karla whispered into my ear.
