6. Chapter Five

Niall's POV

My back fell back onto the plush, pillow top mattress. A long, exaggerated sigh left my lips as I stared to the popcorn ceiling. I connected the dots making random patterns.

"Shit," I cursed, running my hand over my face. I had overworked myself tremendously and now I was just exhausted.

The fluffy towel wrapped around my nude abdomen became loose, making me tighten the fabric. I flipped myself over; my face burying into the duvet that hadn't been washed in months. When I lived with my mum they were always clean and smelled wonderful. But, a life without a woman can bite you in the ass.

Fuck me. Fuck my life. I should've came home when I got the damn news. But, now she's gone. Forever. And I could've prevented it. I could've made her live the last six months.

I yanked the bedding down the length of the bed, throwing the towel wrapped around myself onto the light brown carpet and climbing to rest my head on the pillow.

The duvet was pulled above my body as I shivered and cuddled the pillow next to me.

Tears fell down my face. How could I?

"How could I?" I whispered out of my thoughts. That's what I thought every night. How could I? I'm sick.

My stomach stared to churn, my blue orbs fell onto the bathroom door as I stood up. I sprinted to the toilet, spilling my guts into the porcelain bowl. Except, it wasn't my guts.

It was blood.

My eyes widened to their extent as the red liquid stained the inside of the commode.

I flushed the contents down the drain, watching the crimson swirl down the pipe. I stood to my feet, wiping my mouth and grabbing my toothbrush. I brushed my teeth throughly, taking the taste of blood from my senses and replacing it with minty toothpaste.

Shooting myself a stiff grin in the mirror, I returned my naked body back to the bed.

My sky irises fell onto the digital clock resting on my bedside table. 12:25, the neon green lettering read. I sighed, pulling the duvet to my nose and squeezing my eyes shut.

I fell into a peaceful slumber.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The ringing of my phone echoed throughout the empty dwelling. I scrunched up my nose in disgust of waking without a proper amount of sleep.

"Hello," I said sleepily, pressing the phone to my ear. My eyes drooped with exhaustion.

"Oh, did I wake you?" Mrs. Hollow's voice made me scrunch my brow.

"Yeah, its fine, though." I pinched the bridge of my nose as I spoke. "How exactly did you get my number?" I questioned.

"You gave me your number re-" I didn't hear the rest because I that that churning feeling at the bottom of my stomach again.

I drooped the phone onto the mattress and darted towards the toilet; letting the same actions of the night before replay.

"Niall? Are you okay?" Mrs.Hollow's voice was loud and clear in the silence.

"I just-" More blood spilled from my mouth into the bowl, sweat beads were quickly leaving my pores and soaking my hair. I sprawled my body on the cool tile floor.

"Niall? Do I need to call for help?" Her voice was calming, but concerned.

I grabbed the phone off the bed and pressed it to my ear. "No. I'm fine," I lied. I was worried about my health. What if I'm really sick? My breathing was still hitched, and my heartbeat was definitely faster.

"Okay.... I called to invite you to dinner tonight."

"Oh, I can come."

"Then be here at eight," the smile was evident in her words as she gave me a quick goodbye and hung up.

I didn't get Alicia, but I got her family.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My feet swung out of the car and hit the concrete. My heart raced as it always did when I approached the house.

As an instinct, I skipped the creaky forth step in the porch. I smirked at my movements. The window to Alicia's room was close to being under the stairs. She hated it when someone stepped on the step, the creaking noise made her angered. So, I usually skipped the stair, but of course, sometimes I annoyed her with it.

My finger reached for the doorbell, but I stopped myself and knocked instead considering that I knew that it was broken.

The tips of my toes tapped anxiously on the wood of the porch. The door opened, revealing Dalton. He frowned when he saw me.

"I thought you were her," he spoke, opening the door for me to enter.

"Well, nice to see you too," I smiled sarcastically and maneuvered my way into the flat. But, I stopped at his words. "Her?" I raised my eyebrows.

"My girlfriend," he responded, rolling his eyes. Oh...I remember being fifteen. And he actually reminded me of myself. I ruffled his long, wavy hair on top of his head. He groaned and fixed the newly made mess.

"Is it Niall?" Mr. Hollow's deep voice broke in.

"Sadly," Dalton answered curtly. We weren't brothers, but we bickered more than me and Greg.

"Oh, shush, Dalton," Mrs. Hollow piped in. She stepped behind him, opening her and and hugging me tightly.

We all walked upstairs and joined Mr.Hollow on the settee Mrs. tended to dinner.

"So, Dalton?" I faced him and he looked up. "You have a girlfriend?"

"Yeah." He looked back to his phone. "Let me guess. You don't," he snickered.

Yeah, he definitely reminds me of myself.

"No. I don't." I shrug. "But, hey, single life's nice."

"How about that boxing match you got, Niall?" Mr. Hollow nodded his head in Dalton's direction.

"Oh," I paused. "I have a match at the end of the month. Do you want to come?" I questioned.

He moved his eyebrows together. "No," he simply stated.

"O-Okay," I sighed. A wave of nausea came over me. I sprinted to the nearest washroom; spilling the blood into the porcelain bowl. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.

"Dude, are you okay?" Dalton appeared into the room.

Splotches of black covered my vision, until out all went black and I fell onto the hard tile.
