2. This Is Our Future

"Are you okay?" he asked. "You look worried. You've got your hair piled on your head, which is never a good sign."

"I'm developing!" I defended myself as he moved behind me and placed his hands on my shoulders. "I wanted my hair out of my face."

"I see," he said in a drawn out tone as he began to massage away the tension and stress that had build up in my muscles. "Well, I think there's more to it. But, if you don't want to tell me, that's fine."

I sighed heavily, defeated.

After five years of marriage, Ian could read me like an open book. Then again, from our very first meeting he saw right through my every word and move. I was foolish to think I could hide anything from him for very long.

"I passed a test today," I admitted, albeit vaguely.

"I didn't know you were taking a test today," he said, his confusion lacing the worried tone in his voice.

"Do you want to see my results?" I asked.

"Sure," he said.

"Help me tidy up and we'll go look," I said.

We quickly put away my equipment and hung photos to dry, then cleaned off our hands. I took his hand and led him to our bedroom.

"Okay, sit down," I said.

He did as I said and I turned to my nightstand where I had kept my test in a baggy.

"Here," I said turning and handing the test to him.

Realization flooded his expression immediately as his smile broadened across his face.

"Really?" he asked, his excitement growing. "Really-really?"

I nodded, "Really-really. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to confirm it."

"You're going to be a mom," he said reverently.

I nodded, smiling, and placed my arms loosely around his shoulders.

His eyes came up and met mine as he sat the test on the nightstand. His hands found their way easily to my waist, lightly caressing my belly.

"I'm going to be a dad," he smiled.

I leaned down and kissed him, so relieved at his reaction.
