We Are Young and Doomed

Milly Farber is tired of being boring, withdrawn, and socially awkward. At least, that's how she sees herself. She is determined to enjoy life. To stand out. To be exciting. To excite someone.

Jasper Hewn always took notice of the quiet little blonde girl who kept to herself at the back of the class. He always thought she seemed intriguing. But he never had the nerve to say hello.

Told from both perspectives in short bursts. Each chapter title is something the character is feeling, but it doesn't necessarily reflect the contents of the chapter. It's more of a reflection of their nervousness and self-consciousness within the situation.

7. What Am I Doing?

His hand stayed wrapped around mine, even though we were well out of the way of the neighboring vehicle. They hadn't even been speeding towards us. They were stopped when they honked and I could have easily just walked away from the spot on my own.

But he grabbed my hand to lead me.

And he kept holding my hand.

And I didn't pull it away.

"Do you want some popcorn or something?" he asked.

I nodded my head. He kept holding my hand as he led me over towards the concessions.

He ordered a small popcorn, snowcaps, sugar babies, a bottle of water, and a large soda. I reached for my purse but he told me he wanted to pay for it. We let our hands separate to carry everything back to his truck.

I hopped onto the tailgate after him and waited for him to start conversation. I had no idea what I was doing. I was in over my head. I had just started talking and trying to branch out this morning and I was already on a date. This was ridiculous and too fast. And crazy. And wonderful.
