The kingdom of Ezthrame. Elves, dragons, fairies and humans are only myths to the humans that live there. But when the truth is discovered in the Forest of Ultanak, west of the King's Palace, the fates of these five peoples will become entwined. And what of the elvish enchantress that has appeared seemingly out of nowhere?

4. Chapter 4

Prince Nimrad walked through the streets of Fimbre, a small town just outside Ultanak Forest, watching over the people as they prepared to move to a new town his father had built fifty miles away. He would have much rather stayed at the Court, and his gaze often strayed towards the trees. He saw the winged shape gliding over it, before it disappeared into the forest. What was it? Too large for a bird but nothing else could fly.

“Watch over the people” he ordered his brother Ediln, who looked surprised but happy at the thought of being in charge for a bit, and hurried off towards the trees.

Este flew through the forest, not caring to keep the sound of her wings quiet. There was no need. Dragons were the only things that could have overpowered her and they could not venture into the denser parts of the forest, where the fairies lived.

She was so unwary she nearly flew into a human who stood in the clearing, peering up at the skies. Before he could spot her she had hidden behind a tree, wondering why there was such a being in this part of the forest. Were the humans unsatisfied with the masses of land they already had? Ultanak Forest was hundreds of miles long and wide but it was also home to four peoples. The humans had much more land and were only one race

Nimrad, hearing a noise, turned but couldn’t see anything. Was it the flying creature? Maybe he’d been wrong- maybe it had been just a bird. He’d been searching this forest for some time and hadn’t found anything.

Then the fairy flew out from behind the tree in front of him.

She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Golden-blonde hair was splayed across her shoulders, half hiding the delicate wings that sprouted from her back. Her green eyes gazed into his, and he felt his limbs become heavy as her spell fell upon him. His sword fell to the ground, but he didn’t care. He had lost all willpower except the wish to fall into sleep right where he was as the enchantment of the fairies took him.

This is a short chapter *you don't say* and most will be longer.
