“I’m sorry, but I never actually believed in love”

Our Insecurities get the best of us.
Our fears limit us.
Our obsessions Outcast us.

9. Eight

It’s 7 P.M. It’s pouring down rain. I’m cold. It’s better than home. I’m so mad, so angry I can punch a wall and break it. I walk around aimlessly, where am I going? To Matt’s house. Why? Because he’s your best friend. No! I refuse to feel vulnerable! You have to tell him or you’ll lose him. I look at my feet, I’m running. When did I start running? Why am I doing things I don’t remember doing?

I reach Matt’s house, I’m drenched. I’m cold. As soon as his house was close enough I ran over, then I stood in front of his house for five minutes, then I rung the doorbell. You look like crap, wipe the mascara from underneath your eyes. I did. Matt opened the door ten seconds later.

“Iris! Hey!” he said an opened the door for me, “Oh let me get you a towel and spare clothes, you must be freezing.”

“Hey, yeah thanks.” I smile at him.

“Or I can uh just-“ and he lifted my on his shoulder and ran to the guest bathroom, I started laughing as he dropped me on the bathroom floor.

“I’ll go get you some extra clothes,” he says and runs upstairs.

I stood up and took a towel out of the cupboard, and I wrapped it around my hair. After two minutes Matt came down. He was wearing a new shirt.

“I got you some of my shorts and a T shirt.” He says handing them to me, I shoo him away and I dried myself and changed into his clothes, He smells nice. It’s Matt you’re talking about. I put my wet clothes on the radiator and then washed my face. You look ugly without make up. Yeah, I do. I always look ugly.

“Matt?” I call into the hallway, then I feel a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist and we were running. Actually, Matt was carrying me and he was running upstairs, and I was laughing.

“Soooooooo, what’s up?” he says and drops me on his bed and sits on me.

“Maaaaaaaaaatt! No!” I say laughing ridiculously.

“So what brings Iris here today?” he says pulling me up.

“Is it that rare of an occasion that I come over?” I laugh and cuddle on his chest.

“Well yeah, it’s been a while, what’s up?”

“Something has to be up for me to come over?” I say and he wraps an arm around me.

“I’m sorry.” He laughs.

“My mom started working for my dad.” I whisper into his chest and that all it takes for him to stop laughing and to stiffen.

“Are you okay?” he whispers and fixes his head on mine.

“No, I ran away from home when I heard.” I whisper and fiddle with his dog tag.

“So I assume you’re staying the night.” He says.

“Surprise!” I say and tilt my head up to be welcomed by his hazel eyes. I felt his chest shake and we both start laughing.
