Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

6. The Call

Sarah’s POV:

By the time Lexi had closed the door, we were sitting on her bed, and the phone was ringing in my ear, I had come back to reality and it had finally sunk in that I was calling Louis Tomlinson.  He picked up after the third ring.

“Hello?”

“Umm yes, hi.  This is Sarah, the girl you met this morning.”  Oh great, he’s probably forgotten about me already.

“Sarah!  Hi!  I have been waiting for you to call,” he told me, sounding slightly happier.

Once he said that the baby monitor picked up Lilliana crying, and Lexi went to go get her, leaving me and Louis alone.

“What was that about?” Louis asked, clearly hearing the noise on my end.

“Oh, that was my baby sister crying.  It’s okay, my best friend Lexi went to get her,” I responded, not knowing how he would react.

“Aw you have a baby sister?  Tell me about her,” he told me.  Phew.  I’ll take that as a good sign.

“I have two actually.  The one who you just heard was Lilliana, who turned two yesterday and my other sister is Autumn who turned six last week.  She’s downstairs in Lexi’s basement watching TV.”

“They sound adorable.  Tell me about Lexi and more about you and just, everything,” He told me.  He sounded like he generally cared.

“Okay, where do I start?  Well, there’s Lexi who has been my bestfriend for three years; only friend really.  She lives in a house four streets down from mine, too far to walk, but too short to drive.  She loves my sisters like they’re hers, and we often stay with her.  I turned 18 last month and love all things music.  I am actually a huge fan of One Direction.  I treat chocolate like it’s a vegetable and I am in love with the color purple.  I go to high school with Lexi, but I hate it.  The reasons I’m only friends with Lexi is because there are so many people who pick on me, but I’ve gotten used to it.  I work at McDonalds so that I can support myself and my sisters and I am also a full-time babysitter for them.”

“And what about your family?” he asked.  Oh no.

“Oh, umm,” I was a little hesitant to tell him.

“You can trust me, I promise,” he sounded so sincere.

“Well my mom died right after Lilliana was born, and my dad became depressed.  He became an alcoholic and started doing drugs.  About a year and a half ago, he started abusing me.  I have been raising my sisters on the side with the help of Lexi.  We don’t have any aunts or uncles, and our grandparents died when we were little.  No one else will take in my sisters, not that I want them to.  I would die if my sisters were taken from me.  Since I am now 18, I am working of getting custody of them, so that we can leave my dad and give them a better life, but it’s hard,” I had no idea why I was admitting all this to him, but I felt like I could trust him.

It was silent on his end and I was scared I had driven him away with my overwhelming trust.  “It will all be okay.  I promise.  I’m going to help.  But until then, would you like to accompany me to dinner tonight?”  He asked.

“Yes please, I would love that,” I timidly responded.

“Fantastic!  Nothing fancy.  When should I pick you up?”

“I put Autumn to bed at six.  How’s 6:30?”

“Sounds perfect.  Text me your address.  I’ll see you again soon,” he said as his final goodbye.

“Okay, goodbye,” I said with a smile on my face.  “See you soon.”

Louis POV:

I hung up with Sarah with the biggest grin plastered on my face.  I walked out of my room and into the living room where Liam, Harry, Zayn, and Niall where sitting watching TV.  I decided to wait until Sarah and I had our first date to tell them about her.

“Dude, why are you so happy?” Harry asked me with a smirk.  The boys could read me like a book.  It was going to be hard keeping this from them.

“Oh just talked to my mom,” I told him.  By this point all the boys were listening.  They probably all knew I was lying too.  Oh well.

“Okay… Sure Lou,” Niall said, clearly not believing me.

Right as he said that I got a text from Sarah telling me her address.  “Well anyway I am meeting a friend tonight for dinner and a movie so I have to go get ready.  I’ll see you before I leave,” I told them getting back up to go get ready.

“Sure.  A ‘friend’,” Harry said dragging out the sure and using his fingers as air quotes around friend.  The other boys were still laughing as I left in disgust.
