Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

34. Sleeping On the Bathroom Floor... Casual

Liam's POV:

Sarah sat there.  She seemed to be considering the idea.  "I guess so.  I think I'll ask Jay if she'll watch my sisters, because that just seems easier."

"Okay sounds good.  The boys and I are going to fly you out.  Is there anyway you can get to the airport in an hour.  There's one that's a straight flight to California that leaves in 2 hours.  I think the sooner the better, eh?"

She nodded.  "Of course.  And this is a surprise?"  I nodded.

"I'll book the ticket now.  Text me when you get here and Liz, Katie, and Lexi can come get you."

She nodded.  "Okay, well I better go pack.  I'll see you tomorrow Li!"  With that she hung up.  I immediately booked the tickets.  I then tried moving Louis as slowly as possible.

He grabbed my hand.  "No Sarah don't leave."  Then his snoring got heavier and his grip got lighter.  She could not come soon enough.  I took my laptop and walked to Niall's room where everyone else was.

"Okay guys, I just booked tickets for Sarah to surprise Louis.  So when she gets here later, the girls are going to go get her.  Louis fell asleep and probably will stay asleep for a while.  But afterwards, we have to keep him distracted boys so the girls can finish up the plan."

They all nodded and we got set planning out everything.

Sarah's POV:

As soon as I hung up with Liam, I grabbed my suitcase and called Jay up to my room.  She walked in and saw me packing.

"What's going on?" she asked quizzically as she sat down on my bed.

"Louis is sick and as we expected, quite jet-lagged.  I need to go be with him.  Is there any way you can watch after Sarah and Lilliana while I'm gone?  Please?" I explained.

"Of course I'll watch the girls for you darling!  Don't worry about anything!"

I smiled.  "Thank you so much.  And if Louis happens to call, can you just make something up?  It's supposed to be a surprise."

"And, one more thing.  Is there anyway I could get a ride to the airport?  Like, right now?" I asked, zipping up my suitcase.

"Of course you can.  Let's go tell everyone what's going on and then we can head there right now."

"Thank you again," I told her.  She smiled and we walked downstairs.  The girls were in the living room playing a board game when we walked in.

Autumn was the first to notice us.  "Where are you going Sarah?"

"I'm going to see Louis, A.  Will you stay here with Jay and the girls for me?"  Autumn nodded.

"I'll miss you."

"I'll miss you too.  I'll be back in a couple of day though, okay?"

"Okay Sarah," she said giving me a hug.

"And one more thing, look after Lilli for me, got it?"  Her smile mirrored mine as she pulled away.

"Okay!  I promise I will."  I smiled at her and made my way to the car.

"I'll be back in an hour girls.  Please don't burn the house down while I'm gone," I hear Jay tell the girls before the door shuts.

Jay pulls up to the curbside drop off.  "If you need anything else, call me," she instructed as I grabbed my bag out of the trunk.

"Thank you so much Jay."

"No problem honey!  Just, take care of Louis for me, okay?"  I nodded and hugged her before walking into the airport.  It was nearing 8:45 and the plane Liam got me a ticket for was at 9:45 so I had about an hour.  I walked up to the desk just as I got a text.

"From LiLi: I booked the ticket under your name.  The girls will come pick you up when you get here.  Text me before you leave."

I locked my phone and slid it in the back pocket of my jeans.  "Hello miss.  How can I help you?" the woman greeted me.

"Um hi, yes, I'm on the 9:45 flight to California.  Can I get my ticket please?"

"No problem hun," she responded.  "Will your bag be checked or carry on?"

"Carry on."  She smiled and handed me a ticket.

"Have a nice flight!" she called as I left the deserted line.

I was on the plane, in my first class seat sending Liam a text.  "To LiLi: Wow, thanks Liam! First class?!  I owe you one!  I'm taking off in about ten minutes, so I'll be in America at around 10 pm.  I'll call Liz when I land.  See you soon!"

I was just about to turn off my phone when I got a text from Louis.  Uh oh.  "From Boyfriend <3: Hey babe, wanna FaceTime?"

I sighed and texted him back.  "To Boyfriend <3: I can't.  I'm sorry, I have a major test tomorrow I have to study for.  I'll text you in the morning, ya?"

I quickly got a reply.  "From Boyfriend <3: Okay, sounds good.  You'll do great love!"  I groaned, knowing I had just straight up lied to Louis.  I couldn't do anything about it though, so I turned off my phone and listened to the safety message.

The pilot turned off the 'no electronics' sign which means that I could now use my phone for music and games.  I took out my phone and headphones and placed the small, white earbuds in my ears.  I turned it on to One Direction on shuffle and laid back, closing my eyes and listening to the sound of Louis' voice fill my ears.

I was awoken by someone shaking me.  "Miss, we've landed."

I thanked the flight attendant before gathering my things and walking off the plane.  As soon as I made it to the practically empty airport, I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and called Liz.  "Oh my gosh!  Sarah!  You're here?"

I laughed at her reaction.  "Yup.  I just landed.  Where are you guys?"

"Um, hold on."  I am confused until I hear Liz, Katie, and Lexi talking.  "Where are we Katie?"

"We're at the baggage claim Liz!" I hear her respond.

"For goodness sakes Liz!"  Now that was definitely Lexi.

I laughed before I heard Liz clearly again.  "We're at baggage claim," she said, acting like nothing even happened.

"Okay, I'll be there in five minutes," I said ending the call.

I had just turned the corner when I was attacked by three teenage girls.  "I missed you guys too, but I can't breath!" I choked out.

"Sorry Sarah!" I heard one of them exclaim before they unwrapped their arms.

"So how are you guys?  How have you been?" I asked them as we walked to the waiting security car.  Luckily, no fans had caught on to our plan and we could make it to the hotel with no problems.

"Eh, it's been boring without you.  But it's been so cool to travel America with the boys!"  Lexi told me.

"That's awesome!"

"Mhmm.  Oh!  Sarah you don't know about Isabel, do you?"  Katie stated more than asked.  I shook my head no and she continued.  "You know that girl who Zayn asked out?  They went on a few dates when you were in Doncaster and now he's getting pretty serious, pretty fast.  He's flying her out to see a concert tomorrow actually.  So you'll get to meet her!"

"Aw yay Zayn!  That's awesome!  Can't wait.  Is she nice?"

"I don't really know.  We've just seen enough of her to say hi.  But from what Zayn has said, ya."

I nodded.  Then Liz's phone started ringing.  "Hey Li.  Ya, she's here.  Sure," she said, handing me the phone.

"Hey Liam," I said.

"Hey Sarah," he replied.  "How much longer until you get here?"

I looked at the other girls, who must be able to hear our conversation because a chorus of '5 minutes' rang through the car.  "Um, about 5 minutes.  Why?"

"Well, Louis is sick.  As in he's been in the bathroom throwing up for the past 20 minutes.  When you get here, come straight up, and I'll be outside his room to let you in."

"Okay, I'll be there as fast as I can."

"Thanks Sarah," he sighed out of relief.

"No problem," I replied, locking the phone and putting my head in my hands.

"What was wrong?" Katie asked me.

I lifted my head slowly and looked at her.  "Louis' sick.  And I just feel really bad for him."

The girls all nodded and tried to make small-talk but eventually they all fell quiet.

As soon as we pulled up to the hotel, I ran, and I mean physically ran inside and to the elevators.  I pressed the button until it came and then pressed the close door button as fast as I could.  The doors closed and I made my way to the top floor where I knew they'd be staying.  As soon as the doors opened, I sprinted down the hall to the door where Liam was sitting.  He gave me a tired smile and opened the door with a "thank you so much.  I'll see you later."  I nodded and walked in.  I made my way to the dark bedroom that was only illuminated by the shining moonlight through the window and the sliver of light under the door.

I took in a sharp breath when I heard gagging sounds through the door.  I gently knocked before walking in.  "Lou?" I asked, walking towards him.

His head turned to look at me, shock clear in his eyes.  "What are you doing here?" he questioned before being interrupted and throwing up.

I walked quicker to where he was and kneeled down.  I started rubbing his back and shushing him.  "Shhh, you don't have to talk right now.  All that matters is I'm here now."  He finished throwing up and sat on his heels to look at me.  "Do you want to go to bed?" I asked him.  He shook his head no, so I decided I'd sleep in here with him.  "Okay, I'll be right back, hold on."

I walked out of the bathroom and changed into a pair of Louis' sweats that were in his suitcase and grabbed two extra blankets and two pillows before walking back into the bathroom where Louis was once again emptying the contents of his stomach.  "Oh Lou.  I'm so sorry," I told him as I put the stuff down.

Once he had felt as though he was done for a while, I got him a cup of water and he rinsed out his mouth.  I threw away the plastic cup and sat down next to him.  I put a pillow against the wall and sat with my legs out.  I put one of the blankets on me and then placed the pillow on my lap, the whole time Louis was watching my movements, almost as if he still didn't completely grasp the fact I was actually there.  I motioned for him to lay his head down on the pillow, and he did so that his nose was touching my stomach.  I put the other blanket down over him as he closed his eyes and I started running my hands through his hair.  "How did you get here?" he quietly asked me.

"Liam sent me a plane ticket this morning.  After our little FaceTime chat.  He said I really needed to be here."

He nodded slightly.  "What about school?  And Autumn and Lilli?"

I smiled down at him.  He was close to dying and he was worried about me.  "I'll make up the schoolwork later, Lou.  And Autumn and Lilliana are safe with your family.  I trust them to take care of my sisters.  I am really only worried about you."

There was a moment of silence before Louis spoke.  "Thank you for coming Sarah, I love you."

"I love you too Louis.  Now go to sleep.  I'll be here when you wake up."

I must have fallen asleep because next thing I know I hear my phone ringing.  I check the caller ID screen and see a number I never thought I'd see again.  "H-hello?" I whispered, trying not to wake up the still asleep Louis.

"WHERE DID YOU GO?  WHY DID YOU LEAVE?" he shouted at me.

"I found someone else to live with!  Someone who actually loves me!" I exclaimed back, a little louder and with a little bit more confidence than before.

"Maybe if you actually talked to me, I would.  But all it is is you yelling at me and hurting me!"  There was some mumbling on the other end of the line before I interrupted.  "Just get out of my life and don't call me again.  I'm better off without you dad," I told him before hanging up.
