Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

9. Louis, Meet My Sisters

Sarah’s POV:

I woke up in a good mood.  Besides the drama last night, I was fine.  I knew Louis would get me through it.

It looked like I was the first one awake; which hardly never happens.  I decided to be a nice person and make the girls pancakes.  Right as I was putting them on the plates, Lexi walks in with Lilliana in her arms and Autumn trailing behind.  “Good morning guys!  Hope you slept well.”

“I did thank you,” Lexi said as she fastened the seatbelt around Lilliana in her highchair.  “So, why are you making us breakfast?”   She asked hesitantly.

“Good question Lexi.  Well I wanted to make you breakfast because I love you guys, but also because I wanted to ask you if Louis could come over this afternoon, and I wanted you in a happy place.”

“I have a feeling you already invited him.”  She knew me so well, “but sure.  As long as I get to meet him, I’m game.  What about you Autumn?  Do you want to meet Louis?”

Autumn’s eyes got big as her smile widened and shook her head up and down.  “I’ll take that as a yes then,” I jokingly responded.

I told Autumn about Louis as we finished our breakfast and cleaned up.  She was probably the most excited out of all of us.

I went to take a shower when I remembered that Louis told me to call him when I woke up.  He picked up on the second ring.

“Hello?” he sounded tired, but maybe it was just the reception.

“Hey!  I told Autumn you were coming today and she is really excited to meet you!”  I told him.  “Oh, and I didn’t have any more nightmares.  Isn’t that good?”

I could’ve sworn I heard him let out a sigh of relief, but I could be wrong.  “That’s great Sarah!  And tell Autumn I’m excited about meeting her too,” he said sounding happier than before.  “Hey, what time did you want me to come today?” he asked.

“How’s 4?  That way Lilliana will be awake and we can do something with the girls and then Lexi, you, and I can hang out after they’re asleep?” I suggested.

“Sounds good.  I’ll see you then Sarah.”

“Okay, bye.”

I left the conversation happy and went to get showered and ready.  He wasn’t coming over for another 4 hours, but I could hang out with Autumn before then.

Louis POV:

I hung up relieved.  At least she had slept through the rest of the night.  I couldn’t sleep because I was too busy thinking about her.  What was she going to say when she saw the dark circles under my eyes?  I can’t let her think she kept me up last night with that phone call.  I didn’t want her to feel guilty for something she didn’t do.

Well, the best thing I could do right now is get some lunch and just chill out until I have to leave to get to her’s.

I pulled up into Lexi’s driveway.  This was it.  The moment I have been waiting for all day.

I rang the doorbell and Sarah opened it.  Her expression turned to one of confusion and sadness as she stepped out on the porch and closed the door behind her.

“Louis, your eyes.  What happened?  Did you not sleep?  I knew I woke you up.  You should have told me.  I would have left you to sleep,” she said, her voice full of concern.

“It wasn’t you Sarah, I promise.  I just couldn’t sleep.  I’m fine,” I said unconvincingly.  She showed a look of disbelief in my statement, but went along with it anyway.

“Okay, if you say so.  Come on inside.  I have some people I want you to meet.”

Autumn’s POV:

I was excited to meet Sarah’s boyfriend.  I had to tell him something.  Something important.  Plus, Sarah told me he would play with me.  I was looking forward to it.

He walked in with Sarah holding his hand.  He was tall and had brown hair with blue eyes.  He looked like he was lots of fun to be around.  I hid behind Lexi, but Louis bent down to my size and talked to me.  “So you’re the famous Autumn?  I’ve heard a lot about you.  It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he said as he reached his hand out.  I know I was supposed to shake it, but I ran into his arms instead, giving him a hug.  When I felt his arms hug me back I decided it was time to tell him.

As we hugged I whispered in his ear, "love her.  Take care of her.  She deserves it."

He nodded and whispered back, "I plan to."  I smiled.  I liked Louis.

Louis then went to play with Lilliana. He talked to Lexi for a while and then came back to me.  "Do you want to play a game?"  I nodded.  "Okay, I'm going to teach you how to play football.  Do you have a ball?"  I nodded again.  Lexi had one I always used.

We both ran outside and he taught me how to kick the ball into the goal and how to block it to.  We played for hours.  When we were done, we all laid down on a blanket and looked up at the stars.  He and I would make shapes and Lexi would just bounce Lilliana up and down on her knee.  Sarah was holding his hand the whole time.  Once we got bored and it was Lilliana's bed time, we went inside to watch a movie.  Louis let me pick and I picked Nemo.  It was my favorite.  I sat on Louis' lap and cuddled into his arms.

Louis POV:
"I'll take her upstairs," I said.  We were watching Nemo and had just gotten to the part where he gets taken and Autumn was already out.

As I tucked her in the bed that she used when she was here, I kissed her on the forehead and told her, "I promise.  I will take care of you and Lilliana and Sarah.  I will not let you down.  I love you already."

I stopped while I was halfway down the stairs when I heard my name.

"He was so cute today playing with Autumn and Lilliana.  I haven't seen Autumn have that much fun in ages," Lexi.

"It just makes me fall in love with him even more," that was Sarah.

"Awwwww.  You should tell him," Lexi said.

Sarah I'm guessing shook her head no because then they started talking about some weird television show.

I continued down the stairs, slowly though because I was so tired I could barely keep my eyes open.

"Aww Louis come here," Sarah said opening her arms.  I graciously accepted the gesture and laid my head in her lap.  She ran her fingers through my hair, making the battle of sleep that much harder.

Just then Lexi came in with a huge bowl of popcorn.  I stayed in the same position laying down with my feet at the end of the couch and my head in Sarah's lap.

"Press play!" Sarah said as she ate some popcorn.  Clearly she was a Disney fan.

Lexi pressed play and the three of us finished off the popcorn pretty quickly.  Sarah then resumed running her hands through my hair, causing me to lose my fight for consciousness before Nemo's dad and Dory even come across the jellyfish, but not before hearing Lexi tell Sarah, "he's a keeper.  Don't ever let him go."  Sarah kissed my check and said in a quiet tone, "I don't plan on it."
