Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

27. First Day of School

I woke up to Louis tickling me. Well this was new. “Good morning love! Are you ready for your first day of a new school?” he asked me with a sparkle in his eyes. “No,” I whined in response and Louis frowned at me. “I want to stay here with you!” Louis laughed before getting out of the bed and standing next to my side. “Well I’m sorry but you have to get yourself an education. No arguing,” he told me matter-of-factly. I sighed before grabbing the outfit I had laid out the night before and retreating to the bathroom. Louis let out a ‘whoop’ before yelling, “that’s right, good girl!” I turned around and sent him daggers before closing and locking the door. I turned on the water and peeled off my pajamas, tossing them in the laundry bin. I hopped in and let the warm water wash over me before getting out and wrapping a towel around me. I put on my white three-quarter length shirt and pulled on my washed out skinny jeans. I added a pink NorthFace vest and white knot belt before doing my makeup natural. I put my hair up in a bun and opened the door that leads from the bedroom to the bathroom. I stepped out and sat on the side of the bed, slipping on my grey Uggs and silver bracelet before grabbing my white lace backpack and heading downstairs. Once I reached the kitchen, I sat down at the table next to Autumn and Lilliana and took in my surroundings. Fizzy and Lottie were across from me at the table and Daisy and Phoebe were on either side of my sisters. Johanna – or sorry Jay as she told me to call her from now on – was at the kitchen’s island with three pink paper bags making lunches for the younger girls, since Fizzy, Lottie, and I would be buying our lunch. Louis was at the stove making what looked, and smelled like, eggs and bacon. By now Jay had joined us at the table and Louis walked over to the table of girls and gave everyone a plate of food. He disappeared and I gave everyone a questioning look. They all just shrugged back and continued eating. He came back a moment later with a small, silver box in his hands. He placed it on the table next to my eggs and bacon and sat down on the other side of me. I looked at him, trying to figure out what it was. “Well are you going to open it?” I heard Daisy ask as Jay shushed her. Louis nodded and I opened the lid to the box. I smiled once I saw the contents. I took out the small diamond earrings and put them in. After, I asked Louis to help me with the clasp on the necklace that matched the earrings, one single diamond on a silver chain. “Thank you Louis,” I said, running my hand over the simple but extravagant necklace. I turned around to face him as he pecked me on the cheeks. He smiled and took a bite of my eggs. “Get your own!” I yelled at him making everyone laugh. “You better get a move on girls! Otherwise you will all be late,” Louis said to his two littlest sisters and Autumn in his best teacher voice. It wasn’t very good though considering his mouth was full of eggs. They all giggled before picking up their colorful backpacks. Autumn came over to me and Louis and gave us both hugs before running to the door to catch up with the other two girls who had quickly become her best friends. Jay had been waiting at the door swinging her keys ever since I had opened the box so she was ready to go. She winked at Louis and said goodbye to the rest of us. After we heard the door close Louis spoke up, “now I may be taking you losers to school today, but that doesn’t mean you can slack off. Go!” he lectured before taking out Lilliana of her high chair and placing her on his hip. Lottie, Fizzy, and I laughed as we grabbed our bags and followed Louis out to his car. ~ “You’re going to be just fine. Don’t worry. Text me if you need anything. Okay? I love you,” Louis said, blowing me a kiss as his two sisters got out of the back. “Okay, I promise. I love you too. Bye Lilliana! Have fun with Louis!” I said as I ‘caught’ his kiss and waved to Lilliana in the backseat. They both just smiled and Louis pulled out of the drop off zone. I quickly turned around to see Fizzy and Lottie standing behind me smiling. “You guys are so cute!” Fizzy said. I smiled as they took both of my hands and lead me to the front entrance. Well here we go. ~ Louis had gotten me the empty locker on the end of the hallway which was right next to Lottie’s and Fizzy’s. Once they had helped me get my locker organized and given me a mini tour of the school, they dropped me off at my first class with the instructions to have fun and wait right outside the door after class so they could come get me. We said our goodbyes and I stepped into the class. I searched for an empty seat and saw one in the back by the window. The bell rang right as I sat down, letting everyone know that lesson was starting. In walked a woman in her mid-thirties with blond hair wearing a grey dress suit and purple heels with a matching shirt underneath. She smiled warmly at the class before saying, “good morning students. We have a new student today. Sarah Kate can you please stand up?” I timidly stood up in the back of the room while pairs of eyes searched the room for me. Once they all found me, the whispering started. All I could hear was “isn’t she Louis Tomlinson’s girlfriend?” “Yeah, I think she is,” followed with “I wonder if she can get us to meet the boys!” “Hello and welcome to Hall Cross Academy! We hope you like it here. Let us know if we can help you with anything,” the teacher, Mrs. Miller, said ignoring the chatter. “Thank you,” I responded before sliding into my chair. “Anytime,” she said with a warm smile before starting the lesson. “Students, take out your social studies textbooks so we can dive into the exciting world of Shakespeare.” ~ I waited outside my room like Lottie and Fizzy told me to, only to see that they were already there. They walked me to my next class, asking how I liked it. I told them so far, so good. They smiled and repeated the directions. I went through the same routine again and again until finally it was lunch. Fizzy and Lottie were both waiting outside my door like they had been all morning and walked me to lunch. “What is the cafeteria like?” I asked. “Well ours works like any other cafeteria except we have better food than most,” Fizzy responded. I nodded as I walked into the line with them. I grabbed my food, paid, and walked out behind Fizzy and Lottie only to be met with a silent lunch room, all staring at me. After a second or two, a few people started whispering, pointing, and laughing. I took in a shaky and quite noticeably nervous breath before Lottie looked at Fizzy and nodded. “Come on, we are going to the courtyard,” Fizzy stated. I nodded before following them out. Once we were outside I just looked ahead, zoned out, not touching my pizza. Lottie and Fizzy tried getting my attention but nothing was pulling me out of my trance. I heard Lottie let out a tired sigh. “What do we do Fizz?” I didn’t respond. I couldn’t even if I wanted to. I was stuck in an unshakable trance. “Maybe we could call Louis. That might help,” Fizzy suggested. I heard an agreement from Lottie and Fizzy talking. “Hey Louis, Sarah isn’t responding to us right now. Why? Well, she was having a good day apparently before we went to lunch. When she got out of the lunch line the cafeteria was silent and then people were pointing and laughing. She has completely locked down and won’t respond. Ya here,” she said before wrapping my non-responding hand around the cell phone and bringing it up to my ear. I instantly heard his voice, soft and sweet through the speaker of Fizzy’s iPhone. “Sarah, baby, what’s wrong? Please talk to me.” I started crying. Right there in the middle of an empty school courtyard in the middle of November with my boyfriend’s sisters. I couldn’t help it. “Aw love, don’t worry. Do you want me to come pick you up early?” “N-no. I’ll be o-okay,” I said as I caught my breath. “Listen to me baby. You are one of the strongest people I know. You can get through one school day. I promise.” “O-okay. I guess I can try.” “That’s my girl. I am so proud of you. I love you. Let me know if you need me to come early. Otherwise, I’ll see you after school in the parking lot.” “Okay,” I said. It seemed as though I had calmed down but I didn’t quite trust my voice yet. “Alright, I love you Sarah. Have a good rest of your day,” he said softly, still trying to calm me down. “I love you too Lou. Have fun with Lilliana,” I told him before I handed the phone back to Fizzy. Lottie held me close while Fizzy finished talking to Louis. “Make sure you take care of Sarah and tell me if I need to come get her or something. Okay?” I heard Louis say. “I promise I will Louis. Bye, love you.” “Love you too Fizz! Thanks for calling me,” I heard him one last time before Fizzy ended the call and put her phone away. “Feeling better love?” Lottie asked. I nodded and she held out a hand for me. "Come on then. We need to get you cleaned up before your next class." I let her and Fizzy lead me to the bathroom and fix me up. Ten minutes later I was in another classroom with three classes to go. Same routine as the rest of the day. Introduce myself, get laughed at, sit down and try to focus on the lesson. Each time I stepped foot into the hallway the teasing got worse. I just shut them out and made it to my classes. ~ After school was over, I literally ran outside to the parking lot, leaving Fizzy and Lottie behind me. As soon as I made it through the school door, I froze, looking for Louis’ black car. Once I saw it and him standing outside of it, I started running again, leaving the two girls who had just caught up with me behind again. He saw me running towards him and opened his arms which I immediately fell into once I reached him. He gently took off my backpack and handed it to Daisy in the back on his car before tightening his squeeze on me. Lottie and Fizzy came up to us and slid in the back of the car, leaving Louis and I time to ourselves for a minute. “Shh, you’re okay now. You made it. I’m so proud of you. I promise, everything will be okay,” he whispered, stroking my hair. “You weren’t in there though. It was embarrassing Louis. Not to mention that I made it worse by crying. I can’t go back.” “Please love, I know you can do it. Let’s just take it one step at a time. Do you have a lot of homework tonight?” he asked releasing me from the hug and opening the car door for me. “No, I just have a couple of math problems,” I responded as he got in the driver’s seat. “Okay then,” he said as the car roared to life. “Simple. You do those while I help the twins and Autumn with their homework and put Lilliana down for her nap. Then you and I can watch movies or something. Just the two of us. Okay?” I nodded and he took my hand in his before continuing down the street. I closed my eyes and just took in the sounds around me; something I always do when I’m upset. The car was rolling down the street, a mix of the Fray and Fallout Boy was on the radio, Louis quietly singing along, my sisters and new ‘sisters’ in the backseat talking about manicures and movies and school. I took a deep breath and realized that no matter how bad of I day I had today, I was lucky to have these people by me. (A/N: Hey guys! I hope you guys like this chapter!
