Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

12. Feel Better Soon

Louis’ POV:

As soon as she left to go take a shower, I went downstairs to get her sisters ready for bed. I scooped up Autumn and told the boys to get Lilliana as I made my way upstairs. After I put them in the bed in our guest room, I saw Sarah walk out of my room in her pajamas. I called her over and asked her if she was feeling any better.

“Not really, no. My head hurts and so does my stomach,” she said looking down at her feet. I was going to kill him. Her dad needs to know the pain he’s cost her. I wrapped her up in my arms and bent down to kiss her forehead. That’s when I noticed that she was burning up.

I pulled away and saw she was shivering. “Sarah, I think you’re sick. Come with me love.”

She followed me downstairs and I went over to Liam. He’d know what she would need. “Liam, I think Sarah’s sick. Can you help?”

“Well I’m no doctor but I’ve taken care of you boys plenty of times. What’s wrong?”

“Well she says her head and stomach hurt and she has a fever.”

“Okay, take her to the kitchen and get two aspirin. Then you need to watch her Lou. Make her fever go down. If it goes up, take her to the doctor. Alright?”

I nodded and dragged Sarah’s weak body behind me into the kitchen. “Can you please take these for me baby? Please?” I know I was treating her like a baby, but I couldn’t help myself.

She nodded and swallowed the pills with a gulp of water. Okay what did Liam say to do next? Oh yea, she needs to go to sleep but I have to watch her. “Come on Sarah, you can sleep in my room. I’ll sleep on the couch.”

She nodded. She was obviously tired as she wouldn’t even talk. When we got upstairs to my bedroom I tucked her into the bed. She was asleep as soon as her head hit my pillow. I couldn’t help it; I stared at her. She was so innocent and helpless when she was asleep.

I finally managed to pull my eyes away from her and I went downstairs to talk to the boys for a while.

I sat down on the couch next to Harry and leaned my head back on the couch, closing my eyes. “Hey Lou, shouldn’t you let Lexi know that Sarah is sick? Maybe get her to get her work or something from school tomorrow?” Harry pointed out.

Harry made a great point. “Good idea Harry. I’ll do it now.” I pulled out my phone and brought up a new message.

“To Lexi: Sarah is sick. Is there any work you could get for her from school tomorrow? Also, what school does Autumn go to? The boys can babysit Lilliana but I know Sarah would want Autumn to be in school. Thanks, Louis”

She responded back almost immediately. “From Lexi: Oh my gosh! I hope she’s okay! Ya, I’ll definitely pick up some work for her and bring it by after school. Oh and Autumn goes to Belton Primary School. If you guys want to drop her off, I can pick her up from daycare when I bring by the work for Sarah? That’s what I’ll do. Thanks for letting me know Louis. See you tomorrow.”

At least that was all sorted now. While I was typing back a thank you response to Lexi, the boys decided to watch a movie. Liam of course picked Toy Story. That boy. Anyway, Liam put it in and as he pressed play I heard something on the stairs move.

I looked over and Autumn was sitting on the second to last step, looking at us. “Hey Autumn, come here,” I cooed. She walked over to me, looking scared. I picked her up and sat her in my lap. “Autumn, what’s wrong? Why are you awake? You have school tomorrow.” I told her as she cuddled her head into my shoulder. I could feel my shirt getting wet. She was crying. “Autumn, what is wrong?” I asked.

“I-I had-d a nightmare.” She cried into my shirt even more.

“What was it about love?”

“I-it was-s about m-my d-dad. H-he hur-rt Sar-rah.” She stuttered on almost every word. The fact that her nightmare was about something she should never have to even think about hurt me.

“It’s okay. I promise. I’m not going to let him hurt her anymore.” She looked up at me with hopeful eyes before whispering an okay. “Do you want to watch Toy Story with us for a little while?” She nodded her head up and down and turned around so she could see the screen. Liam pressed play again and the movie started.

Autumn was asleep in minutes. I knew she would be. I waited until the movie was over and then I moved her upstairs. While I was up there I decided I to check on Sarah.

I went to my room to peak in to see if she was okay, but she wasn’t in there. That’s when I noticed the bathroom light was on. Then I heard a puking noise. No.

I went in there to investigate, and sure enough, Sarah was in there getting sick. I rushed over to her and sat beside her. I held back her hair until she was done, and then I let her fall into my arms. I carried her back into my room and tucked her back in before I left to go back to clean up my bathroom.

When I was done I went back into my room to get some pajamas and then go downstairs to watch TV. I had to stay awake to check on Sarah but I couldn’t keep the others up, that just wouldn’t be fair. When I was about to leave I heard her mumble something but I couldn’t quite make it out. I walked over to my bed and asked what she said again.

“Stay with me. Please.”

I couldn’t say no. Especially since she was sick. I told her I would then went to make a bed on the couch in the corner.

“Cuddle me,” she whined. I walked over there and sat on the edge of the bed. I went to wipe the hair out of her forehead and felt that her fever had gone down dramatically. She kept asking me to get under the covers with her and I finally caved in. I got under the covers and wrapped my arms around her stomach. She leaned her head on my chest and I started singing the first song that came to mind; Lego House by Ed Sheeran and she quickly fell back asleep. I tried to stay awake so I could take care of her if she got sick again but I eventually drifted off to dreamland as well.
