Sarah is 18, but her life is far from any other high school senior's. Her mother died when she was 16; her father became a drug addict, smoker, alcoholic, and Sarah's worst nightmare. Why? Well, he abuses her.

Sarah doesn't tell anyone though, not even her best (and only) friend Lexi because her father told her that he would hurt her little sisters that her mother left her to raise when it became clear her father wouldn't be able to.

Sarah goes to work one day expecting it to be like every other day. Little does she know she is in for one heck of a surprise.

21. Breakfast, Shopping, and Movie

Sarah’s POV:

I woke up at around five this morning to an empty house. Once I saw the time, I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep. I tried wiggling around to get more comfortable but it didn’t work. I eventually gave up. I started running my hands through Liz’s hair to get all the tangles out and to occupy me. I was thinking about what she had gone through. Our stories were very similar. I mean, how many 18 year old girls can say they lost a parent while losing the love of the other? Not many I would say. I quickly got bored doing this though, so I started tracing Louis’ tattoos, starting with the cup of tea. Once I had run out of tattoos, I started writing things and drawing circles on his chest. My finger got tired about 30 minutes into this so I stopped and watched the rising sun.

“Who said you could stop?” I heard Louis mumble. “If you’re not going to keep going then go back to sleep.”

I was shocked that he was even awake. “How long have you been awake?” I asked quietly.

“Since you started with the cup of tea,” he responded shifting a little bit. I knew there was no way I was getting anymore sleep if I tried so I kept going, re-tracing the tattoos. His breathing got slower again, and he started quietly snoring, so I know that he was asleep again. Once I was confident he wasn’t waking up anytime soon, I stopped again and looked out the window that was right next to the couch that we were sleeping on. The sun had just gotten halfway fully up, and it was beautiful. I quickly took out my phone and snapped a picture before playing Ed Sheeran and humming the lyrics to the song Lego House.

I laid there until it was about eight in the morning, then decided I was hungry and I went to go get something to eat. I got up as carefully as I could while trying to not wake up Louis who was using me as a human blanket. I covered him with a real blanket and tiptoed into the kitchen. I warmed up some pancakes from yesterday in the oven and got out one of the many containers of nutella. I warmed up the kettle and made some tea. Yorkshire, Louis and I’s favorite of course. As I was spreading the nutella over the pancakes, I felt someone’s arms wrap around my waist. I quickly turned around in their grasp and saw Louis. “Good morning Sarah,” he said, his voice groggy from sleep.

“Good morning yourself,” I responded before turning back to my breakfast, him sitting down on one of the bar stools.

“Did you make any for me?” he asked. Instead of answering I just put a plate of nutella pancakes, a fork, and a cup of tea in front of him before grabbing mine and sitting on the stool next to him. “Yum, thank you Sarah,” he said slowly waking up.

“Anything for you baby,” I said before digging in. “Louis, I’m really worried about Liz.”

“I know you are Sarah, but you just got to trust that she will be okay. Why don’t you go talk to her? I think I hear her getting up.” I swallowed what was in my mouth and kissed Louis on the cheek before going into the living room.

“Good morning Liz.”

“Good morning! How’d you sleep?”

“Well let’s just say I’ve slept better before. It’s fine though. How are you?” I asked sitting next to her.

“I’m doing a lot better. I still don’t want to tell Liam just yet though.”

“Tell me what?” Crap, Liam just walked into the room.

“That she is going shopping with me this afternoon for a new suitcase,” I lied. Actually it wasn’t a complete lie, I did need a new suitcase, but I guess now I’ve got a suitcase shopping buddy.

“Okay. Why didn’t you want to tell me that?”

“Because I didn’t want to disappoint you by not spending the afternoon with you,” she said catching on. Liam nodded before asking her if she wanted breakfast to which she said yes. Louis came out the door just as they went in.

“So I was listening the whole time. Suitcase shopping Sarah? Really? Can I teach you how to lie better?” Louis says sitting next to me on the couch.

“Hey it was last minute, don’t judge me!” I exclaimed throwing my hands up in mock surrender. Louis just laughed and turned on the TV.

“You know babe, we leave tomorrow for my mum’s house. Are you ready for this?” he asks stroking my hair.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I responded.

Autumn came down the stairs and sat in Louis’ lap. “Sponge Bob!” she exclaimed after seeing her favorite TV show on the television. I had seen this episode already so I decided to go get Lilliana up, leaving Autumn and Louis to their cartoon.

Once I was in the upstairs hallway I saw Katie and Lexi walking towards the stairs. “Good morning Sarah,” Lexi greeted me.

“Good morning guys! Hey, Liz and I are going shopping this afternoon since Louis and the girls and I leave tomorrow. Do you guys want to join us?” They both answered with vigorous nods. “Okay great, I think we are gonna go around two.” I smiled at them before I went to get Lilliana.

Well it was two o’clock and Lexi, Liz, Katie, and I were ready to go. While we were out we were going to pick up some food and bring it home for the boys and my sisters. Louis had promised to take care of Autumn and Lilliana so that I could just have fun and not worry about anything. We all piled into Lexi’s car and rode off to the mall.

We pulled in and went directly to TopShop. Sure, we may be here for suitcases, but we can afford a couple of stops along the way. I had to get some more make-up anyway since I was running out. Once the girls and I had made our purchases we went in the shop across the way and picked out a big purple suitcase for me and two smaller pink suitcases with the same shade of purple polka dots. We took the TopShop bags and the suitcases back to the car before continuing our trip. We spent hours in all sorts of shops and came out of the mall with five bags each.

Once we all piled into the car we drove to Nandos. After getting the food we drove home, laughing the whole way there.

“Boys we’re home! We have dinner!” At the sound of dinner they all came running down. We all sat around the table and talked about our days before going into the living room to watch a movie. Lilliana and Autumn fell asleep within seconds of pressing play so Louis and I took them upstairs before returning. We had decided on The Ring and were about halfway through when I started getting really scared. I buried my face into Louis’ chest and he wrapped his arms around me. We stayed that way for the remainder of the movie, and when I looked up the other boys with their girlfriends, Louis and I weren’t the only ones in this position.

I guess I fell asleep because the next thing I remember was someone carrying me upstairs. “Louis?”

“Shhh, go back to sleep, love.” I did as I was told and closed my eyes, falling back asleep before Louis even made it to the bed.
