When Christopher, a miserable man who had spent most of his life working in the local library, finds an old book with some of its pages stuck together, his life is about to change. Having a plan that will hopefully save the world, he ventures on a journey to find the Sacred Necklace...

4. Chapter Four

'Hello?' came a young, sleepy voice.
'Hel- Are you sleeping, Alex?' Christopher sounded appalled.
'Mm...' the other one, Alex, seeming to fall back asleep.
'Alex. Get up now.' Christopher demanded sternly.
Sounds of yawning and scrambling out of the bed came through the receiver.
'Okay...' Came the husky, still-tired voice.
'Okay. Good. Listen, I have something to show you.'
Alex sighed loudly, 'Can't you call me later about this?'
'No, because you'll just go back to sleep, which you can't do, seeing it's eight in the evening' Christopher stated calmly, in a tone one would talk to a toddler.
Alex sighed again, this time as a sign of giving up.
'Fine. What is it?'
'Well, i can't show you over the phone, can I?' Christopher teased, giving a little chuckle.
'No but- Wait. Did you just laugh?' Alex asked in disbelief, but shook it off, returning to the previous subject, 'Nevermind... What do you want me to do? Fly from France just to see something? Unless it's like a dead rat, and in that case I don't want to see it...'
'It is not a dead rat, for your information. It's a magic necklace.'
'Uh, yeah, sure.' Alex said, his voice dripping with sarcasm, 'How many time have I told you to ignore psycopaths on the streets and don't believe anything they tell you!'
'Alex...' Christopher had lost his good mood, 'I'm being serious.'
'So am I. Okay, let me guess: you have a plastic necklace with a fake diamond in it and someone has told you that is has magical powers and-'
'Quiet!' Christopher was losing his temper, 'I don't physically have it. It's just in this book and the pages where stuck together and then this flame exploded and it had that- that weird writing and it disappeared and-'
'Books usually contain writing, yes'
'Aw, come on, this is really important. I wouldn't be wasting my credit calling to Paris if it weren't... Can't you do this one simple thing for me?'
'Please, please, please don't moan. Fine, I'll come.' said Alex, annoyed, and added quickly, 'If! If you buy me the plane ticket. I'm coming just for your sake, so you are buying my ticket. This better be good.'
And with that, she hung up.
Alex, Christopher's only family, the only person he could talk to. In the end, so what if Alex thought he was mad? Family is family - nothing can change that.
