I know there's heaps of these floating around but I wanted to have a place to put all the one-shots and ideas I'm not using elsewhere. I will occasionally be taking submissions- 4 or 5 at a time- so keep checking this description to see if they're open or closed. SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED! Sorry guys, I have a few on the backburner & life will be busy the next couple weeks, I just won't have time.

5. Hello - Liam

Hello

(Liam)

Deep breaths, Victoria.

I had to stay calm. Screaming and crying wouldn’t help me at all, not in this situation. Funny really, that I was trying to stand out by being quiet and calm. On the outside at least. On the inside? I could barely believe I was still functioning. I mean… it’s not every day a girl gets to meet a celebrity, let alone five at once. And when those five celebrities are One Direction, it’s a pretty big deal. I’d been looking forward to this day for five months already, ever since I pre-ordered a ticket and then pinned it to my wall.

There was a buzz in the air that almost had a flavour with how strong it was. Myself and just fifteen other fans- all girls- were huddled together in the VIP lounge waiting for the boys to arrive. Those who hadn’t come alone huddled with their friends and whispered while I twisted my red hair around my fingers, tapping my heel against the ground. I was quite an outgoing person normally, bit of a nerd, but this was too far out of my comfort zone for me to be buzzing about making friends.

Finally, the door opened and a security guard motioned for us to follow him. Several girls screamed and I bit the inside of my lip to stop from rolling my eyes; didn’t they know that One Direction hated screamers?

We walked along a hallway that seemed to go forever before being shown into a lounge even larger than the one we’d left. Racks of clothes lined one wall and there were changing booths along another- I nearly fainted as I realised where we were. The changing room. One Direction had probably been butt-naked in this very room at some point… I tried not to blush as I eyed up the seats and took one facing away from the door we’d came through.

As the crowd settled, we all looked at one another in confusion. Wasn’t there supposed to be a boy band in here somewhere?

Just as people made up their minds to go ask, the changing booths all burst open as the boys burst into the room, grinning and laughing when they made some girls shriek with fear.

“Sorry about that, Louis’s idea,” Liam called to all of us, his gaze sweeping across the room. I smiled when he looked my way and thought it must’ve been a trick of the light when his eyes locked on my green ones from across the room. The boys made the rounds, introducing themselves and chatting with two or three girls at once; Harry and Niall came to say hi to me and signed my shirt when I asked politely.

Zayn was next, and he hugged me without being asked as I babbled on about having been so excited to meet them that I couldn’t sleep the night before. I think he realised that I was on a caffeine and adrenaline high and laughed when I asked if he’d draw something on my back. As he finished and high-fived me, I turned to wander around the room only to find my way blocked by none other than Liam Payne.

“Hello,” he greeted me politely, holding out his hand. “I’m Liam.”

“I’m Victoria,” I replied, shaking his hand and not bothering to point out that I was very well aware of what his name was. He held my hand longer than he should have for a friendly greeting, and he didn’t take his eyes off my face. “Something in my teeth?” I asked, and he snapped out of it, shaking his head and laughing.

“Sorry, no, you’re just…” he trailed off, as a nerve in his jaw twitched and he gave me a shy little smile, eyes warm and shining. “Really pretty.”

“Thank you,” I replied, genuinely pleased, and gave him a swift hug. I thought I heard him sigh happily…

It didn’t escape my notice that, throughout the afternoon, Liam and I hung out more than anyone else. I caught flashes of jealous looks directed my way- especially when Harry turned on the stereo and we all started dancing, and Liam grabbed my hand to twirl me under his arm with a laugh. I loved dancing, it was great fun and a good workout too. Not to sound conceited, but I liked to think I was pretty good. It seemed Liam agreed because he applauded when the two-hour meet and greet session closed with the entire group of us dancing around to Best Song Ever.

“Said her name was Georgia-Rose,” Liam sang along with himself, pulling me in close and winking. “And her daddy was a dentist!”

That made me laugh. My dad really was a dentist… “Said you had a dirty mouth!” I sang, nowhere near as on-tune as Harry was but Liam didn’t seem to care.

“But you kissed me like you meant it!” Liam’s hand was on my hip and for the first time I noticed how close we were, stepping back and overbalancing as my knees hit the edge of the armchair. I shrieked as I toppled backwards, Liam’s hands grabbing empty air as he attempted to save me and ended up kneeling beside the chair, both of us laughing too hard to care what we looked like.

He pulled me back up to my feet and I didn’t notice my phone slip out of my pocket and disappear down the side of the armchair.

“Time to go, girls, I’m sorry,” Paul announced, holding open the door. The boys said an individual goodbye to us all and I longed to stay; we’d all gotten on so well, and I would have been lying if I said I hadn’t felt the tiniest of sparks with Liam.

“What’s your Twitter handle, Victoria?” Liam asked as I hugged him farewell. Purposefully, I’d made sure I was the last in the room.

I told him what he wanted to know, and then; “It really was brilliant meeting you,” I said, noticing his expression turn a little soft and hurrying to cover myself- “All,” I added quickly. “Meeting you all.”

Liam’s face fell a little and he shook my hand again. “You too.”

Paul led me away and I couldn’t help but look back; we’d hit it off so well… this couldn’t be the end, surely?

“Where the hell is my phone?” I shouted, tossing my pillows up in the air for what felt like the thousandth time. I’d come home after the meet and greet eager to call my friends and tell them all about it, only to be unable to find my phone. I knew I’d had it that morning, but I’d pulled my room apart in a frantic search in case I’d thrown it somewhere and forgotten. Shaking my pillow, I growled and tossed it at the wall. “You have got to be kidding!”

Storming downstairs and slamming doors, I was grateful to be the only one home as I knew I’d get told off for making such a racket if my parents were in. Grabbing the house phone, I dialled my number, certain now that I’d left it somewhere public. On the train or the bus, maybe. I just had to hope someone had picked it up and wasn’t going to keep it. Yeah, I knew how thin my chances were.

“Hello?” a male voice answered after a moment.

He sounded familiar but I barely had time to register the voice before starting my tirade. “Hey, listen, you’ve kind of got my phone and I get it if you want to sell it for cash but really, it’d be lovely if you’d just give it back to me. I’m quite attached to it.”

“What’s your name, love?”

I rolled my eyes, jutting out my hip as I glared at the fridge. “Victoria.”

There was a pause, and a lot of whispering. I nearly hung up and gave up before the voice was back; “From the meet and greet? Red hair, green eyes, really pretty? That Victoria?”

Now I was freaked out. “Are you stalking me or something?!” I demanded, half ready to call the cops.

“No! It’s Liam! I found this phone in the armchair… must’ve been when you fell, you dropped it. I was always intending to get it back to you… so why don’t you come and get it?”

Grinning, I wrote down the time and place and hurried upstairs to plan what I would wear.

After all, dinner and a movie wasn’t the usual routine when returning lost property, was it?
