Like children * Complete *

We all made choices we regret; choices that tear us apart. We deplore them so much we wish we could start all over again.
But even with a second chance, can what has been broken be fixed?

8. Chapter 7

I can feel his hot breath against my face as he is close to me.

"What do you want to ask me?" I whisper, looking down at my hands.

He steps back and shakes his head," No...Nothing. Just forget what I said." He sits down on the grass and sighs but doesn't look at me. I move slowly toward him and kneel in front of him; I put my hand on his knee and squeeze it slightly.

"Come on, Niall... You don't have to be afraid; you know you can tell me everything." He nods weakly and lifts his chin up to stare intensely at me.

"Yes, I know," he mumbles before starting to pout. I giggle; he is looking like a small child when he is doing so.

"Why are you laughing at me?" he asks, a cheeky smile on his lips. He pushes me and I fall on the back, still laughing. He sits on top of me and starts tickling me.

"Niall stop!!!" I shout, out of breath because I'm laughing too much. To my surprise, he stops at once and becomes serious. I calm down and stare at him while leaning on my elbows.

"What's wrong?" I ask him worried.

"I'm going to miss your laugh," he whispers, standing up. I sit down properly and keep looking at him.

I remember that conversation; I know what he is going to say and I'm not sure I want to hear it again. Though I know everything, I lie,

"Niall... I don't get it." I stand up and move closer to him; I take his hand and squeeze it lightly.

"I want to audition for the X-factor," he replies quickly. I nod and he carries on, "it's my dream and I have the chance to realize it." He looks at me, waiting for an answer.

"I know this Niall. It is wonderful for you! But you said you had something to ask me; has it something to do with this audition?" Last time, he didn't say he had something to ask me; he just told me he was going to audition and that he would miss me. What does he want?

"I need you to help me figuring out whether I really should do this."

"But... It's your choice, not mine!" I exclaim, astonished by his question.

He shakes his head and explains, "I want to be sure of it and I need your help. Could you think about it a short while before telling me whether it's a good idea, please?" I sigh; he won't change his mind; he would wait until I say yes.

"Right, I'll think about it. But it's your life and you should take your decision on your own!" He chuckles and shrugs his shoulders.

"Thanks, Eileen!" He hugs me before walking away. A few meters away, he turns around and waves. I do the same and enter my house.

I come into the kitchen where I find a sheet of paper lying on the table.

I'm at work and I won't be back till tomorrow morning,

Sorry, Dad.

There are some things that didn't change even after all this time. I sit on a chair and think about Niall.

If I'm back the day he told me for his audition, it must be because there is something I have to change. If I tell him to audition; nothing would change and I know what is going to happen afterwards. If I tell him he shouldn't auditioned; he would stay here and we would still be friends.

I take my phone out and dial his number; I know what I'm going to tell him.
