Backstage Access

Kylea was never your typical theater kid. What she really loved was technical theater. She understood why the actors were important, but she also knew that there would be no show without the stage crew. They were behind all the magic.
When she finally gets a job working a Broadway show, she has no idea what she is about to do will change her life.

1. The Big Time

I couldn't wait! I was finally on the plane heading to New York City! Three months ago, when I was recruited by the Broadway musical, Dive In!, I was ecstatic. I know what you're probably thinking, no, I wasn't cast in the lead or anything like that. I was accepted as a member of the stage crew!

My love for the behind the scenes action started in ninth grade, when I was a freshman.  I had never taken any kind of theater class, because my middle school didn't offer any classes.  My mom also thought it would be a good way to overcome my shyness.  I took a regular theater class and the teacher mainly focused on acting techniques, but she also showed us some of the technical aspects of theater.  I absolutely hated the getting up in front of the class part, but I loved the tech stuff.  My teacher, Ms. Lakewood, began to see how much I really loved it.  She gave me a few flyers about taking weekend classes on tech theater.

At the classes, I thrived. I made friends and we were all tech nerds. I learned almost everything there is to know about tech theater. I also found out that I was good at it! I am still friends with most of the kids from the classes and especially one in particular, Macy.  She is now my absolute best friend! When she heard that I was recruited to the show, she was so happy for me. She promised to come see the show when it started.

Anyways, back to today. I arrived at the airport at 6 am and the plane arrived at 8 am, so I had time to kill. I walked around and saw some magazines. I bought one just as it was time to board the plane. When I got on the plane, I started to read the magazine. Most of it was boring celeb gossip about people like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and One Direction. I'm not a big fan of One Direction, but I have to admit, they are pretty darn cute. I wonder if they're nice...

After awhile, I was just too tired and fell asleep. When I woke up, the plane had just landed. I was finally in "The Big Apple."
