The Wolf In Me

This story is about Shade Caron. Her mother and father gave her to werewolf hunters who ran an orphanage in Maine. They were told about what she was and they decided they didn't want the responsibility. She was rescued by a woman named Kaylie Quinn, a sweet woman with a kind heart. Now, Shade has a sister named Hailey Quinn and a lot of friends that care about her. She has also found the alpha of a pack, David. As she grows to like the beta of his pack, Clyde, and he joins her school, what will happen? And when she meets the three other packs of wolves, will she be taken from her pack? Or be let in on a secret that has been kept from her for so long?

3. I have to go, tonight.

All through the drive home, the two girls were silent. How would one of the wolves know who her sister was? She had explained the wolf to be at least six foot or better, with cropped brown hair and a strong build. "He said his name was David…?" Was the last thing Hailey had said. Wait, what?! He had talked to her?! Oh no, this was bad, this was very bad. Shade tried to think straight but couldn't. Even when her all time favorite song, "Lullaby by Nickelback" came on. That's when her mother looked over at her, and gave her a funny look. She saw it in the rearview mirror and didn't make eye contact. They hit a decent sized bump and she pretended that she was spacing out before, and started singing. Her mother turned up the radio a bit, so she would sing louder. She looked at her mom and put on her best fake smile. She smiled back at her, reassured now that she was okay. When they got home the two girls helped put the dishes away and after they were done, Hailey had her fiend Micah over and Shade went up to her room. When she opened the door, a folded piece of paper landed on the floor. She bent down and picked it up. At first she thought about just throwing it away, but somehow she felt that it was important. So, she read it.
"To Shade, may the wolves be with you.
My name is David, I'm sorry if I scared your sister. I didn't mean to. She was giving of such a strong scent of you that I couldn't help myself, I had to let you know that there are others around you, even if you already thought we were here. Look, there are some things you need to know about this place, it's not like it used to be… There have been some big changes with the laws of the wolves, and the pack has split up into four groups that hate each other… I need your help. Please? If so, meet me tonight, by the roof below your window, I'll wait until Hailey falls asleep. Please make the right choice.
Clyde"

As Shade stepped out onto the roof that came out under her window that night, she heard the familiar squeak of her sisters door. She must have been up and heard her open her window. She sat on the roof, waiting for her to come out onto it, asking what she was doing. And sure enough, she came out onto the roof, but, there was a different question…
"Are you going to go find him?" She asked, in a shaky voice, and Shade looked at her and realized that she was crying.
"What's wrong?" She asked, feeling guilty that she had basically decided to possibly leave her sister behind forever.
"If you leave, I might never see you again… and if I don't ever see you again, how will I ever get through life? How will I know what to do, how will I know who to trust, how… Just how, Shade? I can't…"
Shade sat in silence… she had no idea that it hurt her adopted sister that much to lose her… she had kind of expected it, but she couldn't quite put her thoughts to it.
" I have to Hailey, I have no choice." She said, trying to sound confident. "You can make it better n this life without me, and you know it. Please Hailey, don't cry, this is already hard enough."

"Okay…" She said, her voice still shaky.
As a couple minutes passed, Shade heard a stick break in the woods, and watched as a black, four legged figure stepped out into the moonlight. A black wolf. He looked right at her with his hazel green eyes, and as if talking in her mind, she mentally heard him say it was time to go. She hugged Hailey, and told her to be strong, and tell her mother that she was doing her job. She had to go. Tonight.
