8. Secrets

Avery flew up out of the bed and looked around.  Just a nightmare.  She sat back down and looked to the right.  Under those blankets a very hungover Harry Styles was sleeping.  She looked at the clock and saw it was about 11:00, she should wake him.  Last night after they kissed Harry seemed more lenient to come with her.  She was tired and exhausted so she put him in her room.  Dani was a rock hard sleeper and didn't hear a thing.

"Harry," she whispered in his ear.  She had to admit all the boys had gotten hotter since the last time she'd been here.  She couldn't be with Harry though, and she knew she was breaking his heart by kissing him.  He groaned and pulled the pillow over his head.  "I know your head hurts Styles but we have to get you up."

"I will never drink again,"  Harry vowed lifting himself up.  His shirt had come off and he was left in his jeans.

"Somehow I doubt that's true,"she said.  He grinned in her direction and looked at himself in the mirror.  "Let's go beauty queen."  She pulled his hand and dragged him out of the room.  Avery heard laughing coming from the kitchen so she led him in that direction.  When they walked in all the familiar people in their lives sat around the room.  A new girl sat next to Liam laughing silently at him.  This must be Abby.  She looked like a model.  The fact that Avery could never looked that good while laughing made her frown.

"Harry..."said Zayn with his arm around Perrie.  Everyone hushed and turned to Harry.  Avery stood quietly waiting for someone to break the silence.

"Where were you?" asked Liam worried.

"He was with me, I let him crash in my room," Avery said looking at the ground.  She could feel Niall's eyes burning into her.

"Did..did you two-" Avery cut him off.

"Niall, can I talk to you for a moment in private," Avery smiled fake at him.  She heard him following her upstairs.  She went all the way up to his room to make sure nobody was coming.

"I got my own room," he said leading her farther in the huge house.  They came to a door and he stopped scratching his head.  "It's a bit messy."

"You are my brother calm down," Avery said pushing past him.  Posters hung on the wall and a desk sat at the far side.  His bed was unmade with clothes laying over it.  The light from the open window shone through the light curtains making it look home like.  He stood behind her still waiting for her to speak first.  She sat on his bead and examined the pictures on his bedside table.  She was in most of them.  Right before the surgery kissing his cheek while he smiled.  At the waterpark after he asked her out, on top of his shoulders.  Niall holding her on the couch when they fell asleep there.  Best collage ever.  He sat next to her without invading her personal space.

"I hope you don't mind," he said.  She looked back at him and smiled.

"This is adorable Niall,"she gushed making him blush and grin.

"Now tell me what Harry was doing in your room," Niall picked at the frayed end of the pillow.

"Last night, he came home drunk.  I didn't know what to do.  He had a knife and then he was all sad.  And. And.  And he kissed me and I kissed back.  Please beleive me when I say it was only to make him feel better.  I love him to death but not like that.  He could literally barely make it up the stairs so I brought him into my room.  He collapsed, took off his shirt and slept," she finished not making eye contact.

"Avery. He had a knife?  Was he trying to hurt you?" Niall worried.

"No of course not that's crazy.  He was going to hurt himself," she spoke silently now.

"Harry was going to stab himself?" Niall kept asking questions.

"Yes.  I talked to him though, he's fine now," Avery assured him.

"God no.  This isn't the first time.  Last month he came home drunk and almost threw himself off the roof.  What's happening?" Niall stood and paced the room.

"He can't go out alone anymore.  He can't sleep alone either,"Avery breathed quickly trying not to hyperventilate.

"Nobody else knows, let's keep it between us.  Harry probably can't remember what he said.  Or did," Niall looked at her hard and made her promised.

She hadn't thought that he wouldn't remember the kiss.  Now it was just stuck in her head like a line of a song, on repeat.  Over and over she could see him leaning in, their bodies moving in rhythm.

"How did the interview go?" Avery asked trying to distract herself.

"Quite well, nothing that bad happened.  Louis was kind of overwhelmed, but it was okay," Niall said walking over to the window.

"Are you okay?" Avery asked thinking about the journals.

"Uh, yeah," Niall nodded and turned back to her.  "We should go."

They walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.  Harry was laying on the couch holding an ice pack to his head.  Louis was sitting alone on the other couch while the others were gathered around the island talking idly.  Avery walked to Louis and sat next to him on the white leather couch.  He grinned and pulled her feet onto his lap.

"So Tomlinson, how's everything been?" she asked holding a pillow to her chest.

"I've been meaning to ask you, I have an appointment next week.  They are going to try a new silence method to uncover some memories.  Will you come with me?" he asked slowly.

"Of course, I have to be there since I am the only one you remember right?" she thought aloud.  Dani had been standing behind them and let her mouth fall open angrily.  She stalked away.  Avery apologized to Louis and ran to her room to read more journals.  She was almost done with the first one.

"Mum wants me to move schools.  I don't know why though, everything was looking up until today.  I sat down at lunch next to a few of my classmates and they all moved away quickly.  When we went outside for recess I didn't get picked for the football game.  I was one of the best players though.  I had to sit next to cranky old Ms.Grimworthy.  She insulted my writing, spelling, and my loneliness.  I didn't cry though, I just walked away.  There was a large open field covered in tall grass next to the school and I went inside.  I picked a really tall patch and layed in between the lanes.  The tan stalks covered my vision until I moved them away.  The bright sun shone into my eyes and the blue sky was covered in clouds.  The painted a picture to me.  A girl.  A boy.  A ring.  Marriage is what I thought of first.  I just want to have a friend.  A friend.  Just one."

Avery closed the last page of the book and yearned for more of Nialls past.  It was sad that he didn't have any friends in grammar school and she was sure that's why he was being all closed off from everyone.
