12. The Heir

There was much confusion as people scrambled to get out of the Great Hall, where the Duelling Club had been held. Darren, Jenna, Amy, Ernie and Gabe headed to the common room, to try and find Justin. Everyone was terrified that Harry was a Parselmouth; he had been found at the scene of the crime of the first attack, when Mrs Norris had been Petrified. And now, all the students with wizarding families knew Harry Potter must have been Slytherin's descendant, as he was a Parselmouth.

The next day, a thick blanket of snow had been set over the castle, meaning the last Herbology of term had been cancelled. Darren, Jenna Amy and Ernie sat at the back of the library discussing the events of the previous day;

"What's all the fuss abut Harry being able to speak to snakes?" Jenna asked nervously.

"Slytherin was able to speak to snakes, so Harry might've unleashed the monster onto the castle, when he thought the time was right," Darren said, darkly.

"But he's a Gryffindor!" piped up Gabe. "Surely he'd be a Slytherin if he was his great-great-great-great-grandson!"

"All that matters is he set the snake on Justin," Ernie muttered, looking furious.

The next day, a thick blanket of snow had set over the castle, meaning Herbology with the Gryffindors was cancelled. Gabe, Ernie, Jenna and Amy sat at the back of the library discussing the events of the previous day:

"I told Justin to hide in the dormitory, Potter's marked him down as the next victim, obviously," scoffed Justin.

"Are you sure it's him, Ernie?" asked Amy.

"I'm as sure as snow is white, Amy, have you ever heard a decent person talk to snakes?" Ernie said solemnly. Then he bent down into a low whisper; "I think he's picking off people that annoy him, like Filch, and that boy, Creevey kept taking pictures of him, and then he got Petrified too,"

"Only a really powerful Dark wizard could have survived that curse as a baby, if you think about it," said Jenna thoughtfully.

Harry emerged from behind a bookcase, fuming with anger. Everyone jumped, except Amy.

"Hello," he said. "I'm looking for Justin,"

"What do you want with him?" Ernie asked, his voice quavering.

"I've come to tell him what really happened at the Duelling Club," Harry retorted.

"All I saw was you speaking Parseltongue chasing the snake towards Justin,"

"Why would I hurt him?"

"Because he's a Muggle-born! And I've heard about those Muggles you live with"

"You try living with the Dursleys!" Harry snapped, and walked away.

"I swear I heard him hissing just then," Darren breathed.

"C'mon guys, we've got Transfiguration next and we need to get our books," said Jenna.

They turned down the passage to get their books from their dormitories, when  Peeves the Poltergeist screamed: "ATTACK! ATTACK!"

The Hufflepuffs ran to the Transfiguration corridor, to see Harry pinned against the wall, with Justin lying stone cold on the floor. Nearly Headless Nick was also floating there, his head lolling, instead of being pearly white he was smoky and black.

"Caught in the act!" shouted Ernie.

"That will do, Macmillan!" McGonagall snapped. She turned to Harry, and then she walked him another way. Ernie was left with the task of moving Nearly Headless Nick to the Hospital Wing too, but using a fan.

"Ernie was right..." Jenna said. "He must be the Heir!"

"I don't think so. He would have done it last year if he is the actual Heir," said Amy, thoughtfully.

"Well, he did get caught at the scene of two crimes," Darren stammered.

"How could he have set the monster on Colin Creevey?! He was in hospital because of Lockhart!" Amy thundered. She turned on her heel and swept her robes into the Transfiguration classroom, and sat there waiting for McGonagall. Thankfully, Jenna had collected Amy's book for her, and shoved it her way without looking at her.
