Igniting Nina

Nina England is a typical teenager...well not so typical. She knew from the minute that she was born how different she was from others, but she just never knew how she was different, or, most importantly, WHAT made her different. And when she meets Niall Horan for the first time, she discovers magical secrets about herself, family, and friends. But this is no fairy tale...

4. Chapter 3

Nina instantly walked into Algebra 2 and saw Niall sitting down at a desk copying something in his notebook.

Man, didn't I just see him not too long ago?

I swear, it's like he's following me or something...

Nina" Mrs.Griggs said interrupting her thoughts and walking towards her. "Take a seat right there"

She was pointing to the seat in the furthest back that stood next to Niall's isolated emptiness; a hallow shell.

"Of course", Nina mumbled waking to the empty chair that called her name screaming with desperation for a partner.

Seriously, is he like following me?

Nina sat down and stared at her empty desk. Despite her willingness to join Niall as his Algebra partner for the remainder of the year, she felt like an apology was in order for leaving him to complete the Physics experiment all by himself. Her inability to contain heat exposure had gotten the best of her, and she did not want Niall thinking she was capable of weakness; capable of fear.

"Hey Niall?"

He looked at her with a smile, and this was the first time that she had actually received the chance to examine his physical structure. His hair showed an abundant amount of blonde with a very light, nearly faint, mixture of hazel nut. His smile showed perfectly intact white teeth aligning a set of flawless lips plastered below a fairly normal perfected nose. But those eyes...those blue eyes...were enough to make Nina melt from the inside out. If only she didn't receive a semi headache while starring into them. And she could not gather the origin of that rooted exception.

"Wow...you have amazing eyes", she said in awe . "But somehow..I can't seem to stare into them"

She didn't want to tell Niall the pain she received attempting to stare at him fully.

She didn't want Niall to think she was weird.
But why should she care what Niall Horan thinks? After all, she didn't want to be anywhere near him. Not because oh his personality, which was very kind, but simply because he seemed to put her well being at discomfort.

He let out a light chuckle, giving a hint of his authentic Irish accent.

"Is that what you wanted to tell me? And thank you very kindly for the compliment", he said smiling

"Well uhm no", she said with an embarrassed face. "And your welcome, I guess. But no, I actually wanted to thank you for finishing the experiment without me earlier. I don't know what it is, but I don't do too well around heat. And that flame was seriously starting to make me feel sick"

"That's perfectly understandable, no need to apologize. It was my pleasure", he said still writing in his notebook, clearly preoccupied with the information before him.

Nina then nodded her head and looked down at her notes. Half way into class, she couldn't seem to focus. She was so bored, she found herself slowly drifting off into a deep, and what seemed like a never ending, sleep.

She dreamt that she was burning alive in a fire. She heard a dozen laughs echoing in her head, while she hyperventilated and gasped for breath. Every move of her body, even blinking, became a challenge to commence, as she slowly found herself grasping with her faith; death. And she could feel his claws tightening and gripping around her ankles bringing her more and more towards the fiery pit of flames beneath her. She tried to think of an isolated Iceland keeping her sanity and keeping her alive. She tried her best to concentrate on what she knew from birth: controlling her own inhumane nature.

Niall, feeling bored himself, felt grateful for the ring of the bell indicating that it was time to transition to the next mundane class holding more uninteresting information. But knowledge was knowledge, regardless of it being interesting or not, and he was appreciative for it. He stretched before getting up to leave. However, turning to the side of him, he saw a dark blue skinned and deep sleep ridden Nina gripping her desk and trembling in absolute terror and fear. Ice evolved from her hands, and began to engulf the desk before her, crawling like garden vines creeping slowly in the roots of a penetrated garden. Icicles and snowflakes escaped from her breath as she heavily inhaled and exhaled the words, "leave me alone, leave me alone"

Niall then jumped, and instantly touched Nina lightly on her arm, turning her skin from a dark blue into her original milk skin tanned color, before anyone could see her in the act she that she committed.

"NINA, WAKE UP, FOR GOD SAKES WAKE UP!!!", he shouted grateful that everyone, including the teacher, had left the classroom.

Nina's eyes instantly shot open once Niall's hand made contact with her arm; she winced in pain but couldn't figure out from what at the time. And before she had time to react, Niall gathered her books and ran to the door with them.

"Niall...wha...what are you doing with my books?", Nina asked

Niall, praying that she wouldn't look down at her desk, did her best to distract her.

"We have literally less than thirty seconds to get to our next class, you slept, now hurry!", he lied

Oh crap, Nina thought standing up. I promised myself I wouldn't get any demerits for being late this whole week

She ran to the door and tried to grab her books from Niall, but he refused.

"I have the books, just get to the next class", he demanded.

She didn't have time to argue, so she found herself leaving Niall at the frame of the door in the empty Algebra class, while she ran to third period.

Niall then quickly ran to Nina's desk , conjured two medium sized flames in each hand, and watched the ice originally formed on Nina's desk melt within seconds before anyone human could see.
