47. She Had her Misgivings

Being there, in his arms, it was so, real.  The feelings, the love, it was all real, she finally had what she craved from Ron.  Ever since her first year, when Ron made fun of her, she always had te strange idea he had feelings for her.  In her second year, when she was paralyzed by the Basilisk, Ron had taken part in helping her.  In her third year, Ron embraced her when Buckbeak was slaughtered, and he obviously was laying it on thick about his leg.  Fourth year, during the tournament, she comforted him during his quarrel with Harry.  Fifth year, the DA, Hogsmeade, they were together constantly. Sixth year, she came back, she came back after all of his time with Lavender.  And lastly, seventh year... An incomplete year, but it most certainly did not begin well.  She cared for him so much, she was blinded.  She gave seven years of her life to him, all to think that her feelings were reciprocated.  It couldn't compare to her feeling right now.  Seven years of wonder, hope, and none of it even came close to how she felt being next to Sirius.  Then it finally sank in.  Seven years wasted.  All of her tears, turned to rage.  Love turned to hatred.  She realized that maybe it wasn't real, and she began to cry.  She let the floodgates open.

Sirius, unsure of what to say, hated seeing Hermione in pain.  It was the last thing he wanted, and it was almost as if when Hermione was in pain, he couldn't help but be in pain with her.

"What are you thinking?" He questioned her.

"That my life has.   Been.   A waste." She said through breaths.

"Your life has been anything but a waste Hermione."  He said releasing her for a moment to look her in the eye.  He held her by the shoulder.

"Then what has it been Sirius?  What have I done to make this a life worth living?  Sometimes I just think the world would be better off without me." She said.

"Who cares about the world?!  I could never be better off without you.  You compete me.  You make MY life worth living Hermione.  You're life has given me the will to live.  My family, my family could never give me that.  James, he's one of my best mates, but... He has that.  Remus, he as well, he has that.  All I have ever wanted... Was that!  I want you.  Hermione Granger.  I will never not want you.  Nothing can change that." He said pulling her into a deep embrace.  This, this, was the best feeling in the world, and it would remain the best for quite a while.  In difficult times, maybe all you really do need is love.  It only took her this long to realize it.  Good things come to those who wait.  And Hermione did her waiting.  She smiled as she remembered an old thought.  'I did my waiting, 12 years in Azkaban' Sirius had said.  Suddenly, Hermione pulled him into a deep kiss.

"What was that for?" Sirius beamed.

"Does there always have to be a reason?!" Hermione questioned.

"With you? Yes." He said.

"For waiting." She said softly.

"I'm not sure I know what you mean." He said, confused.  But Hermione only returned a smile.

"I hate to break this up..." Said Carressa. "But we have company." She said, pointing in the opposite direction.

Just noticing that their friends were still there, Sirius and Hermione looked up in the direction of Carressa's finger.  Death Eaters, obviously nothing here was short-lived.  Each of them took their battle stances, and even Bailey joined them.  Hermione had had her misgivings about Bailey, and that was to be expected, but maybe there was some good left in the girl, a girl poisoned by Death Eaters.  Hermione have Sirius one last look, before turning her head back towards the incoming pack of Death Eaters.  She began to walk forward.

"Hermione!  What are you doing?! Get back here!" Yelled James.  But Hermione edged farther up.

Without looking back, Hermione spoke, "For waiting, Sirius.  Waiting for me." She said, breaking into a dead sprint, right into the direction of the Death Eaters.  It seemed a bit backwards, usually she'd be running from them.  But she had realized that all her life she was missing out on something.  The books and cleverness was restraining her.  She let go, but not like anytime before.  She had nothing to fear, and this was her chance to prove it.  She was safe.

Everyone standing long behind her was in awe.  Lily was on the verge of crying in happiness.  James was impressed.  Carressa was nodding her head in approval, while Remus was smiling and shaking his head at her.  Bailey was standing frozen, in pity for the poor girl, while Sirius was pointing in her direction screaming, "That's my fiancée!!! That's my fiancée!  Whoo!"  Then it hit him.  "Wait.. That's my fiancée." Then in anger he ran into the pack of storming Death Eaters.  His last audible words being, "That's my fiancée you numpties!"
