A Secret is Meant to be Kept

When Ron lashes out at Hermione and gets them into a sticky situation, Hermione transports herself back in time. But the Marauders Era was a bit farther than she expected. She must figure out how to reverse the spell, deal with falling in love all over again and fight against some of the most notorious Death Eaters, who are inside the castle's walls. Not as intruders, but as classmates.

31. Not Without Me

"Yes.", said Hermione, solid.  She decided to postpone the chance to tell her friends about her real home.

"I'll come along as well.", said Sirius, trying to look heroic in front of Hermione.

"Suppose we best get packing. I've acquired a few beaded handbags, and I've put an undetectable extension charm on all of them.  It renders them useful to carry very large items, and a load of them, without the ability to be found, unless you know about the charm, or the items inside.  They are in the dormitory.  When we get back to the common room....", but Hermione went silent, remembering her time on the run again.  Revisiting her short-lived adventures, that she never did get to complete.

The group arrived back in the common room, and Hermione retrieved the bags, then distributed them.  Carressa and Hermione packed fairly light.  A few changes of warm clothing, just in case.  Hermione packed the most important spellbooks, and some others on healing, and for any other that she needed in case she ran into the same road blocks she had on her last adventure.  Carressa pulled out a small pocket-knife, and a small shard of glass, one piece of a two-way mirror.  She pocketed the small knife, and handed Hermione the shard of glass.

"In case we are ever to be separated, you'll know how to find me.", said Carressa.

"Thank you.", whispered Hermione.

They finished packing and walked down the staircase to meet James, Sirius, and Remus.  Remus had packed the map that the boys had created before Peter left, and she could tell it pained the boys to talk about the map, so she never brought it up.  James packed the cloak, and Sirius made sure to bring the necessities.  Hermione brought along little packets of food and water with them, so when the time came, she could enlarge them, and they would have sufficient nutrients.  As they all agreed they had what they needed they went to exit the common room, only to see Lily run down the staircase, frantically.

"You can't go!", said Lily. "Not without me.", she said holding up a little beaded bag.

"I knew I was short one.", muttered Hermione.

"Come on, we're about to go.  We have to stop off to see Dumbledore anyway, you might as well come along.", said Carressa.

"Good luck on your quest.", said Professor Dumbledore, not objecting to Lily's presence.  He handed each of the children, even Lily, a small box.  He must have expected her to make an appearance.  Then, they were sent on their way.  They walked out onto the grounds and stood in silence.  James was the first to speak.

"Where to first?"

And Hermione replied, in satisfaction, "Everyone grab someone's hand, were going to side-along apparate", and surely, she felt the warm, comforting hand of Sirius slide into hers, and grasp tightly.  She looked over to see Remus with Carressa, and James with Lily, all looking down, attempting to understand what they're getting into.  All of them turned around to face the school, and Hermione could imagine the picture of it up in flames, which she knew was bound to happen eventually.  She shed a single tear, and felt Sirius whisper in her ear," It's going to be alright, I love you no matter what."  And Hermione melted inside.  Despite what she had done the past few months in avoiding Sirius, she looked at him, and kissed him.  They embraced each other, and hugged for what seemed like an eternity, and Hermione saw the others doing the same.  Hermione broke away from her kiss, and spoke once again.

"We're going to the Malfoy Manor."
