40. It's Best for Her

As Sirius hung the curtains in the downstairs, Lily fell to the ground, holding her head.

"What?! What is it?!" Sirius exclaimed as he kneeled beside Lily.

"Nothing... It's nothing... Really.  I'm alright.  Just feeling a little bit woozy.  My head hurts.. Can you get James?"  She said laying back down.  But James wasn't in his best state at the moment either... If you call twitching on the ground a bad state anyhow....

"James! Mate! James come on! Get up! Come on!"  But Sirius could not coax the body to rise.  He continued to twitch, before his body went completely still.  He had heard a scream, but he knew it hadn't come from Lily, he was sure.  Where was Remus?  Where was Hermione?  That 'look around' was taking a bit longer than he'd imagined.  Jealousy crept into him, and he almost completely forgot about James.  He looked down at his friend, still breathing, almost in a sleeping trance.  He picked him up and ran in to get Lily, only to see her screaming, before she fell to the floor, like James.  He threw James over his shoulder and picked up Lily, placing her on his other shoulder.  Once they were both steady, he ran up the stairs, and hear the scream again, less vague.  He wanted to scream himself, trying to decide whether the scream was a scream of ecstasy, or pain, either way, Remus was going to pay.  He bursted in to see Hermione being cradled by Remus, screaming repeatedly, mumbling to someone or something, but not Remus.  No, most definitely not to for Remus.  He was holding her, comforting her.  The jealousy subsided, but he wished it was he who was comforting Hermione, in her time of need.

"Remus.  They've... I... I dunno what happened.  Lily collapsed, then I ran to find James, he was on the ground.  And... And... When I came in to get Lily, she screamed, and fell to the ground again."  Said Sirius, forgetting to breathe.  Remus looked up, as if not noticing he was there.

"What's happened to Hermione?!"

"She's... I don't know.. She was yelling about Lily and James.  Dead.  She could clearly see it happen, but there was no one in the house the night they died, it's impossible." Said Remus.

"Do you think since Hermione imagined it, it happened.  No magic can indirectly kill someone, without a spell, not by thought... Do you think they're just in a trance.  Playing along with her imagination?" Said Sirius.

"It's in my head!  It wants me. I'm not imagining it!  I'm not crazy!" Screamed Hermione, tears pouring from her eyes.

"That's not what I meant!  I don't think you're crazy!" Pleaded Sirius, but Hermione was screaming again.

"Shhh... Shhh.... Don't cry." Coaxed Remus.  "It's alright!"

"Please!  Please!  Kill me!  Not them!" Screamed Hermione.

"Sirius." Remus sighed.  "I think it best if you go.  Take Lily and James.  They will awaken soon." Said he. "Please.  It's best for her, let her be, she will be fine, trust me."

"You're telling me what's best for her?!" Said Sirius, anger icreasing.

"Sirius!  She is hurting!  Please, listen to me!" Said Remus.

"Remus!  I can't believe you!  I love her!  You can't expect me to leave her!!!"

"Sirius, please." Said Remus.

"I love her!" Said Sirius.

"What about Bailey!  Said you loved her too!" Screamed Remus.

"That's different!" Said Sirius. "It wasn't real love!"

"It wasn't real!  Define real, because I'm not sure you know what that is." Said Hermione,  she was crying hysterically.  "Please, please go!"
