Accepting the Mark

Max has just moved and she doesn't know anyone, but a group of kids in her grade seem to know her and follow her around the school. She hears howling at night, and Max swears that it's right outside her window. When school starts to get harder and Max gets more stressed, she gets more angry. She's never been a violent teen though. But when the group of kids that follow her around tell her something interesting, will she choose to accept it? Or go on living in the dark?

11. Warning

I woke up still a bit dizzy but I wasn't feeling sick anymore. I stood up and let the world stop spinning before getting ready for school. When I was showered and dressed I walked out to the kitchen were the Frosts were eating breakfast.

"Oh hello Max," Mrs Frost said as I walked in. "We weren't sure if you were still sick today, so we started breakfast without you," she explained.

"Oh that's alright," I said. "Whats for breakfast?" I asked.

"Eggs and bacon," she said as she stood up to fix me a plate. I thanked her and sat down at the table and ate. Mr and Mrs Frost didn't talk, they only looked down at their food. The only sound was my fork hitting the plate. When I was done I set my plate in the sink and then left for school. Zac was outside as he promised. I could feel him before I saw him.

"Zac I know your there," I said as I started walking down the sidewalk. I heard him laughing behind me and I spun around to see him struggling to get out of the bushes.

"I was trying to hide from you," he said.

"Well that doesn't work anymore," I said as he walked up to me. He tried to grab my hand but I moved it away.

"You've accepted the fact your a wolf," Zac said. "Why won't you accept the fact your my mate?" he asked. He moved closer to me so our shoulders were touching but I moved away.

"Because I don't want my future to be all about being a wolf," I said. "I want to choose my own mate,"

"Well you can try, but you can't resist the urge to be with me," he said as we walked up to the school.

"Well I can try," I said as we walked into the busy school. I walked down the hall, Zac trailing close behind. I stopped at my locker and grabbed my books and put them in my bag. "Now if you excuse me I have class," I said right before the bell rang. I walked away from Zac who was still leaning against my locker. I could feel him getting farther away from me, then Shawn came walking up beside me. I jumped a little, not knowing he was coming.

"Heard your little talk with Zac this morning," he said as he stepped in front of me, blocking my path.

"So?" I asked.

"He's right," Shawn said. "You can't resist your fate, you can try and fight it but you will not win," he whispered in my ear, then walked away.
