Accepting the Mark

Max has just moved and she doesn't know anyone, but a group of kids in her grade seem to know her and follow her around the school. She hears howling at night, and Max swears that it's right outside her window. When school starts to get harder and Max gets more stressed, she gets more angry. She's never been a violent teen though. But when the group of kids that follow her around tell her something interesting, will she choose to accept it? Or go on living in the dark?

10. Afterwards

I could feel the moon disappearing. I looked towards Zac who walked slowly over to me and nudged my paw with his muzzle then laid down beside me. The rest of the pack lay sprawled out all over the pit. Zac had been closer to them but as the morning grew closer he moved closer to me. I felt my wolf eyelids start to drop down and I let sleep come over me.

I heard laughing and talking, it sounds almost foreign because I was so use to hearing growls and barks. I opened my eyes and saw the pack all back to their human form. I lifted my head and noticed that I too was back to normal.

"That was fun," Shawn said as Zac stood up from the dirt ground and unlocked the trapdoor. "Lets do it again next month," I smirked but i didn't feel like joking around.

"You alright?" Zac whispered as the boys lifted themselves out of the pit. I shook my head. I felt dizzy and my stomach hurt.

"I feel sick," I said as I told Zac what was wrong. He helped me out of the pit and then grabbed onto my upper arm as I stumbled around the den.

"Maybe you should stay home today," Percy said.

"You look like hell," Nick added. Zac let out a low growl and the pack walked out of the den.

"You should stay home," Zac said as he helped me out of the den. Shawn locked the door and the gate and Zac picked me up bridal style.

"No, let me go," I protested as I tried to push away from him.

"You sure?" Zac asked. I nodded and he set me down. I started walking but soon got dizzy and fell to the ground. Zac picked me up again, this time I didn't object. I wrapped my arms around his neck for support and rested my head on his shoulder. Soon I drifted off to sleep.

I woke up in my room. I couldn't remember how I got here. I remember leaving the den but after that it was a blur. I threw the covers off of me. And stood up. I felt nauseated and I sat back down on my bed. I heard a knock on my door and Zac came walking in.

"Hey Alpha," he said as he sat down beside me. "How you feeling?" he asked.

"Like crap," I said as I laid back down. Zac covered me up with my blanket and I forced a smile. "What happened?" I asked.

"You just got sick, it was your first turning and it just made you sick," he said.

"Did you get sick?" I asked.

"No, usually the males don't get sick. Its always the female wolves," Zac explained.

"That's sexist," I said.

"Its true though, I asked my mom when I got home," Zac said. I rolled over to my side.

"So what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Since your my mate now, we are "connected"," he explained using air-quotes around connected. "So I can feel what your going through, and I could tell that you were awake," he explained.

"Well that's going to take some time to get use to," I laughed. Zac smiled and moved closer to me. He moved some air out of my face and kissed my forehead. I wanted to back away, maybe even slap him. But something held me back. Somehow it felt right.

"Get some sleep," Zac whispered against my forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow morning," he said as he walked away. I wanted to call out to him and tell him to stay, but sleep over took me again.
