Hidden Industry

All of us listen to music from our favourite artists every day, we watch them on TV, go see them in concert. To us they're just famous people. Five seemingly normal guys enter a typical music contest but soon find out nothing about that industry is normal, including themselves.

1. One

Louis’ POV

Packing my bag, I did my best not to make too much noise. I didn’t want any of the pack hearing me. I guess you’re wondering why I said pack right?! Well truth be told I was a werewolf, we lived in a pack of about 30, me and my family had been a part of it for about 15 years. “Sneaking off in the middle of the night Lou? That’s clever, real clever.” My big sister Nat said behind me.

“I can handle myself.” I answered, not stopping packing.

“Bullshit! Louis it’s not a fairground out there.”

I stopped to face her. “You don’t think I know that?”

She walked a little closer. “No I don’t, you’re leaving the pack in the dead of night when there’s vampires, sirens, maenads and god knows what else out there.”

“Nat, I’ll be fine I promise.”

“I can’t take that chance.”

“And what’s that supposed to mean? You’re gonna tell on me aren’t you?”

“Louis don’t be so stupid. We’re not pups anymore.”

“Then what did you mean?”

She sighed and sat next to my bag. “I know how much this music stuff means to you, so you’re not alone, I wanna run with you to wherever you’re going to.”

“Nat I’m not a pup!”

“I never said you were, you’re my younger brother, I just wanna know you’re safe.”

I sighed, putting the last few things in my bag. “Fine, but we have to go, now!” She nodded, turning herself into the (very rare) white husky, dropping my bag on the floor and turning myself into my wolf form. Nat was sat patiently waiting for me to lead the way. I barked, picking my bag up and running out of the house and out of the life I was so used to.

Harry’s POV

Pulling my latest conquests neck to side, I released my fangs, digging them deep into her neck, sucking the sweet liquor that was her blood. I sucked and sucked, being careful not to drain her.  I needed my strength to be at its maximum, I was embarking on a trip. Music had always been an interest of mine and being a 200 year old vampire meant my reach out to the public was difficult to say the least, no one knew who I really was and I couldn’t leave during the day.

Glamouring the girl I’d just bitten, I ran her home in less than 10 seconds, that was one of the many perks of being a vampire. The downside was the almighty hunger you had even when asleep. Your body craved the sweet taste of someone’s blood. I’d had to learn to live with it, I was just worried about keeping the hunger suppressed when surrounded by hundreds of juicy strangers.

When I entered ‘The X Factor’ I had to be honest about who I really was and was shocked when they turned around and said I’d been accepted to audition. So here I was packing my case for my trip to London. I hoped my pale skin colour wouldn’t be too obvious or if anyone touched me how cold I’d be to their hands. There was only one way to find out...

Zayn’s POV

It was the day of the audition and I was super nervous. It meant leaving everything I was used to, and my family who I was super close to. I loved music though, I sang pretty much every day. Packing my last few bits, my Mum appeared. “Zayn we need to talk.” The look on her face was serious so I stopped what I was doing.

“You remember the few times you’ve woken up naked downstairs? Or that time you were naked on the porch and you couldn’t remember how you got there?”

“Yeeeah.” I said a little confused.

“Well the truth is you’re a shapeshifter.”

I laughed. “What?”

“I’m being serious, you can change your form into any animal you want.”

“Is this your idea of a joke?”

“No, Zayn, it’s the truth. All of us are like that.”

I was shocked, not really knowing what to say. I mean I was different in a huge way and this was the first I was hearing of it. “I know this is a lot to process, but you have to promise me you won’t shift at all in this competition. It could compromise all of us.”

“Mum, I don’t even know how to shift.”

“Well now you’re the age you are, you’ll be able to feel the urge when you see an animal of some kind and you have to resist it.”

I nodded. “Okay, I’ll try.”

She embraced me in a hug and I warmed to it. Somehow accepting an ability I didn’t really understand. Wondering how my future may change knowing this. I packed the rest of my bag, hugging and kissing everyone goodbye, leaving them for a hopefully better life, one of which I can help them too.

Liam’s POV

On the outside, you’d think I was just a normal every day guy, but as I packed my suitcase, I was scared I wouldn’t be seen as normal. You see I’m an elf with all the characteristics of a human. I don’t have the pointy ears so it’s easy to disguise as just a guy. But entering this music contest with thousands of other people, I was scared it’d be easy to spot something was different.

I’d never been to ‘earth’, our universe was accessed by portals scattered around the humans’ world. As a junior elf you’re forbidden to leave the safety of the forest, now on my first day as a senior one, I planned to leave and very rarely come back. I wanted to be a singer and I didn’t want my magic to stop me.

I hadn’t told anyone I was going, I knew it’d be too much for them and I didn’t wanna hurt my kind, pure bred elves weren’t the strongest when it came to loss, and being the first hybrid, I somehow managed to cope with emotional situations. I was leaving them a note, felt it unfair to just vanish, they deserved to know I was (hopefully) going to be safe.

Taking one last look at my home, I moved my hand over one of the many portals and walked through, closing it behind me so no one could follow. Here I was in London in the middle of the night. It was a totally new surrounding for me, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. But I was here to make a fresh start and I intended on doing that.

Niall’s POV

Running across the glade, I couldn’t quite believe this was my last few hours here. I was making history when it came to my kind. I was fae (or fairy if you’d prefer) and no fae in the past had left the magical glade. You probably think I have wings... you’d be wrong, we look like any other human being, we just produce powerful light zaps. There were hundreds of us, all separate families, all working together to help earth’s forests thrive. That’s where we get our power from, it’s how we stay alive. Without the forest there were no fairies.

As for me, I was entering an music competition some human had mentioned when she was orbed here by another male fae. It sounded so good and I loved to sing, not only that, on the earth’s actual surface, I can keep an eye on the state of nature.

None of my family or friends were really very supportive, but I could see why and I promised to visit as often as I could, keep them updated on everything going on with me. I just knew I couldn’t pass an opportunity like this. Music ran through my veins, I had to pursue it.

I packed my things, the whole clan were gathered, wanting to say their goodbyes. I knew this would be really emotional, but I was ready. Every single one of them hugged me tight, not wanting to let go, I smiled, told them all a very sincere and solemn goodbye. I grabbed my bag, popping it on my back and waved one last time before orbing straight to a toilet cubicle in the venue where these auditions were being held. I was here.
