Fear can not drive out fear. Only love can do that.

4. Staying

Afternoon came rolling by and I was just sat here on the beach looking over the water. The wind swept through my hair, as I inhaled the smell of fresh water. I had no idea where I was going to go or where I was going to stay. All I knew was that I was never going back home.

I decided to just walk around the pier and see what this little town was all about.

I walked up the pier until I saw a lady who looked to be about middle-aged. She stopped me in my tracks.

"Well you look new around these parts. Never seen you before sweetheart. Do you need help with anything?" Her strong southern accent was present and her smile was so bright, reminding me of my mother.

"I'm uh just looking around. And yeah, I'm actually not from around here. I just wanted to know where the closest hotel was to here."

She gave a small laugh. I was confused to what I said that was so funny.

"You got a plane? Cause the only way you gettin' close to a hotel is 100 miles from here girly." She chuckled again.

My face held a blank look. Where was I supposed to go now?

"What'chu need a hotel for?"

"Well I need somewhere to stay for a couple of nights just until I can find a cheap house or apartment."

"Come on down to my place then. Only got a few people livin' in my house. I'd be glad to let you stay."

This lady was either out of her mind or just outright nice. Who lets a complete stranger stay at their house? She doesn't even know who I am, let alone, what my name is.

"Thankyou but I really don't know who you are-"

"Okay then sweetheart just don't come crawling back later." She said with a laugh.

She began to walk away and now was when I started to have second thoughts.

"Wait!" I said a little louder than I should have.

"See, I knew you wouldn't give up the opportunity."

I followed her into the small shack that she claimed was where she worked. It smelled of fish and deep fried foods.

She just told me to take a seat in the back room while she closed up the front.

"Hi there." I heard a little girl's voice say.

I turned my head to witness her small figure and smile.

"Who are you?" Her puzzled look took over.

"I'm um, I'm El. What's your name kiddo?"

"I'm Louise. Wanna color with me?" She pulled out some crayons and a coloring book onto the table we were sat at. I grabbed a red crayon and began to color the rose layed on the page.

"So Louise, where are your parents?"

"Well my grandma works here and my daddy works at the shack down the pier. He's coming to pick me up soon."

"So she's your grandma?"

"Mhm." She slightly mumbled, focused on her drawing.

"How about your mom? Where is she?"

"Oh, she's not around anymore. I'm not really sure where she is."

Not around? I was about to ask some more when I heard the familiar voice of the lady I had met earlier.

"Looks like you made your first friend in this town." She said with a small grin.

"Grandma! Grandma! This is El. She drew some pictures with me."

"Oh, El, that's such a pretty name. I'm sorry I never got to fully introduce myself. My name is Joy. And guess what Louise?"

"What gram?" She said with wide eyes.

"El is going to be staying with us and daddy for a few days until she can find somewhere to live."

"Who's going to be staying with us?" Now, was a voice that I didn't recognize.

Through the shack door, entered a familiar face. A tall, masculine body adorned by a plain white tee and dark skinny pants. His curls were slicked back, some still loose on the sides.

"El is going to be staying with us." Joy replied.

He made his way over to me, holding out a hand.

"I'm Harry. I remember, you came and bought a coffee earlier this morning. And I did keep the change by the way." He said with a chuckle that revealed his dimpled smile.

I couldn't help but smile back, and blush too.

Our eye lock was interrupted by a voice.

"Daddy Daddy Daddy! Can El sleep in my room tonight? Pleaseeee?"

"Sweety, I don't think she'll want-"

"I'd love to. It sounds like fun." I said. Louise looked the sweetest little girl.

"Are you sure?" Harry asked me quietly.

I nodded.

The next few hours were going to be interesting. At least it was going to be a fresh start.
