The Next Heir

Julia Springforth was someone to be envied at Hogwarts. She was beautiful and had friends who were famous like Rose Weasley, James Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. Despite that, she never felt proud of herself for being a half- veela, thus she kept it a secret. All her life, she asked herself why she was abandoned by her father and then her mother afterwards, but never got any answers. And then, she soon found herself having abnormal abilities… even for a witch.

((The story will start with Julia being in the first year but there will be a timeskip bringing them to the main story - the fourth year.))

11. The Yule Ball in the Corridor

"At least Scorpius doesn't play Quidditch and get attacked by a Dementor..." I sighed, throwing peebles at the lake.

It was not my present - not my time. I was supposed to be friends with Rose, Hailey, James and Scorpius but now... I have nothing.

Scorpius was in Slytherin, and I just got a detention for not wearing Ravenclaw's uniform.

If Scorpius were to play Quidditch and get attacked by a Dementor, James wouldn't be there to help him, and I wouldn't even able to do the Patronus Charm.

"James..." I whispered his name. In my memories, I saw James and me sitting under his invisible cloak, him asking me to the Yule ball.

But now, not a single trace of that event stayed - or ever existed - in James' mind.

No one was capable of altering the past.

But I had to admit it.

"I wish I had never made James and Julia met."

If it wasn't for Hailey, James would never have walked to my train compartment, Rose would never have talked to me and I would have had no interest in being a Gryffindor.
Which also resulted in Scorpius not wanting to be in Gryffindor, and got sorted into Slytherin because he didn't like Ravenclaw as well.

Despite that, I just couldn't think of Hailey trying to sabotage me.

She was always this cute cheeky girl with a talent in Quidditch, who had been my friend from the very beginning.

It's hard to even believe that the thought I've heard about never making me and James met was even hers.

Everything felt so wrong.

A week soon passed by and it was finally the Yule Ball's day. A part of me had already given up on going back to my normal life, but it felt impossible to get use to the situation sometimes. I had gone to the library everyday and night since then, searching countless books about time travelling. I also almost got reported to a professor, by a Ravenclaw girl who spotted me sneaking out to Myrtle's bathroom.

"Are you sure you'll lend me the white gown?"  Hailey gasped as she was talking to Rose when I walked by. I was slightly bothered by her words, but I couldn't blame Hailey for what she was feeling.

Hailey had tied her hair in a more girly way now, and she even worn a locket around her neck.

"Try to not set my dress on fire." Ravena Greyfeather, my Ravenclaw roommate gulped as I carefully raised my arm. I then flicked my wand a few times and feathers started to appear from all over her dress.

"Thanks." She smiled. I nodded and put my wands back into my robe.

Ravena looked at me for a moment before saying, "Are you okay? I've never seen you this down until lately. And you even refused to go to the Yule Ball."

"I guess I just don't feel like it." I said. Ravena sighed and grabbed a mini radio, passing it to me. I clicked the button 'play' and there was a love ballad playing.

"It connects to the muggle's radio station. I like their songs, you know." Ravena winked at me before leaving the room.

I sat alone on the bed, listening to the music.

"How long will I love you... As long as stars are above you... And longer if I can..."

My heart skipped a beat somewhere throughout the song. I didn't know why I was feeling flustered and anxious hearing the lyrics - but I did feel them.

And before I even knew it, I was running towards the Great Hall in my uniform.

"Ja...Potter!" I called out as soon as I saw him waiting for someone in front of the Great Hall Entrance.

"Are you waiting for Hailey, I mean, McBeth?" I asked, looking around to see that the Great Hall Entrance was already closed and Hailey was nowhere to be found.

James looked at me coldly for a second before saying, "So what if I'm waiting for her?"

I gulped, "Dance with me. 30 seconds. Friendly dancing. Please."

"They say you're beautiful but you sure are a bit confident as well, no?"

"Am I not good enough for you to have a 30 seconds dance?" I chuckled, sending the word 'confident' right back at him.

I pulled out the radio from my pocket, and showed it to him.

"Muggles' music." I grinned.

"You Ravenclaws are so bossy and weird." He chuckled back. He put out his hand forward and I then took it.

We started dancing slowly to the soft muggles' song on the radio. At first, we slightly smiled at each other, thinking that how could two strangers happen to dance with each other like this. And then, 30 seconds passed, but we were still dancing to the love song, looking into each other's eyes as if we were bewitched by the other.

The song soon stopped and we slowly released our hands from each other's.

We stood silently for a moment.

"Thanks for the offer, Springforth." He said. James looked surprised and a bit shy saying it. Just like the first time when we met on the train.

"I thought all you remember was left and left and fall." I commented, complimenting his dancing.

James' eyes suddenly widened.

"How did you know I said that?"

"I swear I'm not a stalker." I laughed, picked up the radio and went my way. I clutched my fists tightly, preventing myself from running back to him again. I promised myself I wouldn't cry over something so small, but being with him made me feel safe - like everything had turned back to normal again - even if it was for a short while.

James were also looking at me when I left. He stood there, unmoving, just staring at me. Hailey then came a few seconds later, calling out for him, apologizing for being late. They entered the Great Hall together in arms, as I turned at the corner of the corridor.
