The Next Heir

Julia Springforth was someone to be envied at Hogwarts. She was beautiful and had friends who were famous like Rose Weasley, James Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. Despite that, she never felt proud of herself for being a half- veela, thus she kept it a secret. All her life, she asked herself why she was abandoned by her father and then her mother afterwards, but never got any answers. And then, she soon found herself having abnormal abilities… even for a witch.

((The story will start with Julia being in the first year but there will be a timeskip bringing them to the main story - the fourth year.))

23. The Rescue Pt. 1

Most of Hogwarts was lit up even though there was still a day of vacation left until school resumes. The scenery was so eerily beautiful yet the grimness of the situation forbade any of us to enjoy it. Underneath the moonlight, the Great Lake shimmered as though stars were dancing on its rippling surface.

"Where do you think they are?" James asked, the urgency masked behind his solemn tone.

The three of us - James, Hailey, and I - were slowly approaching the colossal structure of our school.

"Maybe Gryffindor Tower, although I just have this uneasy feeling that they are leading us right into a trap. Why did they bring us back here to Hogwarts?" I pondered out loud to James and Hailey as we hovered above the school grounds.

"You guys go ahead and check out the dorm. I will go get help from the professors and alert them of the situation!" Hailey quickly turned her broom around and darted in the direction of the Headmistress's office.

There was only James and I left. We headed to the Gryffindor Tower and gently entered through one of the windows. There was no sign of Rose nor Scorpius in the boys' room.

"Julia, come here." James signaled me with his hand to come closer, as he removed something from the trunk underneath his bed. As Jame touched the trunk, the lock automatically did an intricate sequence and opened up itself.

"Remember this?" James said quietly under his breath as he covered the both of us under his invisibility blanket. So long ago, when things were different and still somewhat normal in our magical world, James and I were just underneath this blanket contemplating the Yule Ball.

"How could I forget?" I let out a small chuckle. I could see myself being reflected in his brown eyes and hoped he didn't notice how I was so mesmerized by his smile.

"Let's go find Rose and Scorp---" Before I could finish my sentence, James quietly pulled me in as our lips touched. It was such a strange sensation. I never knew humans could be this close. And the fact that the guy embracing me right now was James Potter seemed to make all the difference in the world.

James rested his forehead against mine as we savoured the short moment together.

"You're right. Let's go." He smiled.

James and I wandered around the Gryffindor common room and found no trace of Scorpius or Rose.

Clunk! A sound came from the Gryffindor's females' room. We approached the sound slowly underneath the invisibility veil and hoped for the best.

"I know you're there!" Scorpius's voice rang loudly across the room. In front of our eyes, Scorpius had his wand pointed shakily towards our direction. To him, he was just aiming at thin air. On the bed right beside where Scorpius stood, Rose lied there unconscious and unaware of her own situation.

"HE... He wants me to hurt Rose... And James. And anyone whose blood had brought his downfall..." Scorpius cried, his grip on the wand tightening. He was resisting the sick urge with every determination left in his body.

"Even me... He wants to kill me and my parents. What have I become!" He was scared and helpless, even more so than he was during our sorting ceremony. On his wrist, the snake tattoo seemed to have elongated and wrapped itself even further on his arm.

I had an idea of what to do.

Tugging at his coat, I signalled James to Rose. James counted down to three with his fingers and threw the veil off our heads as we darted through. James jumped towards Rose to block any possible attack as I lunged at Scorpius.

Let's hope my plan actually works.

"RELASHIO!" At my command, my wand released a surge of power shooting right at the snake tattoo on Scorpius' wrist. It seemed to have writhed in pain before releasing itself and falling onto the ground. It had looked like a real living snake before evaporating into a green cloud of smoke.

"Scorpius!" I called out to him as he released his wand and pulled back in pain. Besides us, James whispered "Rennervate" softly to Rose as her eyes slowly opened up again.
