The Next Heir

Julia Springforth was someone to be envied at Hogwarts. She was beautiful and had friends who were famous like Rose Weasley, James Potter and Scorpius Malfoy. Despite that, she never felt proud of herself for being a half- veela, thus she kept it a secret. All her life, she asked herself why she was abandoned by her father and then her mother afterwards, but never got any answers. And then, she soon found herself having abnormal abilities… even for a witch.

((The story will start with Julia being in the first year but there will be a timeskip bringing them to the main story - the fourth year.))

2. Scorpius Malfoy and the Hat-stall

Hailey, I and Rose widened our eyes and gaped  as we first years entered the magnificent Great Hall. The room was fancily decorated: 4 long rows of tables, each with a banner of  the house above; a forever-changing ceiling, imitating the sky outside (either that or the ceiling was transparent); and in front of the long table where the professors were sitting, there was a stool with an old hat on top. A very old and ragged looking hat.

"Hailey McBeth- GRYFFINDOR!!!" The hat's announcement boomed through the hall, following with the Gryffindor's incredible cheering and claps. They were really really loud.

Rose was also sorted into Gryffindor, and the cheering was no less. And then, came Albus' turn. The  guy sat uncomfortably on the stool, closing his eyes shut, as if he was wishing for something hard.

"Gryffindor, Gryffindor..." he murmured.

"Albus Potter - GRYFFINDOR!!!"

The rest of the first years followed the same procedure after that, and the energy didn't stop going hayware in the air.

"Julia Springforth."
I walked up to the stage slowly when the professor called my name.

The white hair, pale skin boy whose eyes met mine across the boats were standing right behind me. He stared at me intently while I was sitting on the stool.

In fact, everyone's attention was diverted to me. Not in the excited and energized way, but the silent and really focused kind.

Instead of feeling honoured, I was feeling slightly scared.

"I see...Yearning for friendship, full of loyalty..." The hat said, looking at Hufflepuff.

"A very wise mind as well, exceptionally wise indeed..." The hat continued, looking at Ravenclaw.

"But you'll always be ready to sacrifice yourself and take the risk when the time comes..." When the hat looked at Gryffindor, I saw James, Hailey, and Rose sitting near each other, looking at me as well.

"But you want acknowledgement, success, and... ooh... What is this? Something very... dark about you...." The hat stopped looking at Slytherin and looked down at me, gaping about something frightening.

"Terrifying abilities...but..." the hat finally said.

The Gryffindor table roared in joy - everyone was shouting 'YES! YES!', while others whistled loudly with their fingers, and some even did a firework magic in the air. It was the loudest cheering so far.

I put the hat back down onto the stool and left for the Gryffindor table.

"Nice one! I knew you would be in Gryffindor for sure- uh- what's your name again?" James hi-fived me, laughing with the rest of table.

"Julia." I laughed with the rest of them as well. Suddenly, someone pulled me on my arm.

"Hey! Don't take her all to yourself, James!" Hailey said, sticking her tongue out to James nastily.

"You totally should've seen the faces of the other tables! Hilarious!" Hailey pulled me down on my sleeve onto my seat between Rose and her, patting me on my back and sneering at the other tables.

The rest of the Gryffindor table came up to me, shaking my hand and such.

"Silence!!!" Professor McGonnagall hit her glass with a metal knife, making a loud sound throughout the hall.

The pale boy with white hair's turn was next. When he finally sat down onto the stool and put the hat on his head, the Gryffindor's face turned sour.

"We don't even need him putting the hat on to know he's a Slytherin." Someone bickered bitterly.

"Who's he?" I asked, turning to Rose.

"Scorpius Malfoy. Son of Draco Malfoy, an ex-Death Eater. He was James and Albus' father, as well as my parent's, worst enemy back then in school. My dad were pretty straightforward about how I need to beat Scorpius in like every-single-classes." Rose whispered, kind of laughing at the end.

I sat quietly like everyone else, waiting for the hat's decision. But strangely, 15 minutes passed, and nothing happened.

"A hat-stall? Draco Malfoy's son?" The room started chattering, and commenting about the rare and unexpected occasion.

I did not exactly care where everyone would be sorted in, but taking so long to be sorted intrigued me.

"I know you do not want to disappoint your father, but at the same time, you're afraid of people judging you if you're a Slytherin... Oh Merlin, we are getting nowhere near to getting you sorted..." A voice suddenly appeared inside my head.

"Did you say something?" I turned to Hailey, asking her about the strange voice.

"What? No one said anything." She replied.

It definitely wasn't a female voice. It definitely wasn't a student voice. It was an old and familiar voice that I had heard before.

It was similar to the Sorting Hat's voice.

"You don't have a preference at all, unlike other kids." The hat grumbled.

The pale boy sat silently for another minute.

"Maybe I should just go with Slytherin  afterall..." he sighed and frowned.

"Do you feel truly happy being there?" the Hat questioned again.

"This is getting nowhere." I thought to myself.

"I think the house you're in doesn't define who you are." I mulled to myself.

"And even if you are in Slytherin, you might be able to change everyone else's point of view about the house when you show them who you truly are... "

The pale boy suddenly looked up at me when I finished my thoughts, his eyes opened wide in surprise.

"Very well then... Cheesy but very well..." The hat narrowed his eyes towards me and grinned.

And then, the room exploded into shock and questions.

Scorpius Malfoy, first year, son of Gryffindor's worst enemy... sorted into Gryffindor.
