1. Hello!

Hello! My name is Isabella Madelyn Barten. I am 18 years old and I am starting my freshman year of college in the fall. You know what really bothers me? When an author writes a book and starts it off in some cheesy way. For example, they might say "I could feel the cool breeze in my hair" or maybe even "I smelled the freshly baked pie that my momma made from down the road!". It really bothers me and sometimes even causes me to stop reading. Well, since I decided that I am going to write a book, I am starting it off directly with who I am. I very much dislike when you don't know the main character's name until a quarter of the way through the first chapter.

So anyway, I have decided that I am going to write a book about the past year or so of my life. My Mom says that I have to find a way to get it all off my chest. She first suggested journalism. She even got me a huge journal with a brown leatherish cover to write in. However, I decided that writing in a journal is plain out boring. So i got a couple of pieces of college ruled, lined paper and now I am going to write a book instead. It is much more exciting that way. When someone asks you "Do you write in a journal?", you can say "No, but I am writing a book!". Doesn't it just sound so much better?

Well, I suppose I should start by telling you a little bit about me, huh? I am exactly 5'4" and a quarter, I have light brown hair and rather dull grayish, blue eyes. It kind of stinks since both of my parents have brilliantly, bright, blue eyes. I guess I got the stinky side of the gene pool. I have a 15 year old sister named Katie Marie. I have always been quite jealous of her middle name. She is almost taller than me and she still has a little bit of time to grow. I'm okay with that though, because I quite like my height. Katie is starting her sophomore year of High School in the fall at the same school that I used to go to, Perseverance High. Oh, and by the way, you can call me Ella. Everyone else does so why not, right?

So the story I am going to tell you all started about a year ago. I had just turned 17 and I was about to end my junior year of High School. It all started when Kate was in an accident. To this day, I still don't fully understand what happened.
