Things I can't

Travelling all around the world, Harry left Hayley with only her eyes to wipe, untold words, a broken promise and a shattered heart.
But some things can't be erased : a past full of memories she'd rather forget but always will cherish, and an indelible mark, bonding them, forever will remain.
Three little words engraved in her skin and meaningless now that he's gone.

15. Let me explain to you

Harry's POV

I heard the doctor talking in the room, so I concluded that she was awake. As the doctor was getting out of Hayley's room, I headed toward it but the doctor stopped me.
"I'm sorry Mr Styles, but I can't let you come in" the doctor told me.
"Why? Is there a problem? I heard you speak; she's awake, isn't she?"
"Yes she is, but it doesn't depend on me; it's Miss Blacks' wish"
"I.. I don't really understand" I said a bit confused.
"She doesn't want to see you, so you're not allowed to come in"
"But ..."
"I'm sorry ..." he said to me with an apologetic look as he gave me a pat on the shoulder.

How did she know I was there? I felt my strength left my body. I sat on a bench. I was waiting there since 3 days and I had probably slept about 2 or 3 hours in total; I was exhausted. Tears started to flow down my cheeks. I couldn't blame her if she didn't want to see me after all; I would have done exactly the same thing, I guess.

Suddenly I heard running in the hallway. I looked up at where the noise was coming from. Even if the person was still far I recognized her immediately. It was Hayley's mother. I called her the day before.  When she picked up her phone and heard my voice she immediately became cold; when I had finished speaking she didn't even answer me and hung up.
As she was headed hastily toward her daughter's room she only gave me a brief look but I could read the anger in her eyes even so...

Hayley's POV

I was deep in my thoughts as I looked out the window. It had started to snow, the view was beautiful outside the hospital. That's when someone came into my room, running, which startled me.
"OMG sweetie you're alright! I was so scared!" my mother said, wrapping her arms around me.
"Mommy, you're choking me" I told her with a slight laugh and she joined her laugh at mine. She pulled herself away and looked at me from head to feet (well, I don't know if it's a good expression as I was laying in my bed but it doesn't matter).
"Looks like you've lost weight" she said, frowning.
"Maybe. As a matter of fact, I haven't eaten much since I arrived. You know, um, I was busy, I do not even see the time pass here and so, I sometimes forget to eat" I replied, hoping she would not remark that I was a bit nervous. She looked me straight in the eye with a suspicious look.
"Anyway. I spoke with the doctor and he told me that you will be allowed to get out of here in 1 or 2 days. We will go home and I'll take care of you."
"Wait! What did you just say?"  I said, eyes wide opened.
"Do you really think that after what happened to you I'll let you in New York and setting off again for Holmes Chapel as if nothing had happened?? I'm not this kind of mother."
"But why?!"
"I saw Harry in the corridor. I dare you tell me that it is not his fault if you're there!"
"Let me explain to you. It's not really his ..."
She cut me off "So once was not enough? I spent more than two years trying to fix every single one broken parts of you; I'm tired of this!" she said, yelling in the small room.  I bet the whole hospital could hear her. She was red with rage. I had never seen her like this before. "You returned with me at home! It's like that and not otherwise".
"Please mommy ! Calm down and let me speak..." I whispered as I was starting to cry.
