Scurrilous Stories

"I-It can't be..." she stuttered, stepping back and dropping the black shotgun that was in her hand.
"I-I didn't know it was her love. Please..." he coughed out, crying.
"You killed her!" she screamed, breaking down and collapsing on her knees.
"Baby please. I love you." he said, as she looked up.
There was a brief silence, before a cough was heard.
"I love you too." she cried out, burying her head in her hands.

Surprising Smile

Nadine Halliday woke up to the sound of her alarm clock going off in her ear. She groaned, before slamming her hand over the ‘snooze’ button.

When the alert stopped, she tore the blankets from her body and sat up, rubbing her eyes wearily.

‘Morning sweet-pea!’ she heard Aaron call from outside her door, obviously alerted by the alarm as well.

‘Morning dad.’ She muttered back, not sure whether he heard it or not.

She stood up, walking straight out the door in her pajamas, walking towards the kitchen. She was still recovering from the weird dream she had.

It was about her encounter with a wolf. She doesn’t know for sure that it was a dream, but apart of it just seemed like a blur to her.

She pulled the cereal out from one of the top cupboards of the old-fashioned kitchen and placed it down on the black-marble kitchen counter.

‘Nadine, why, when you came how from work, did you have mud on the souls of your boots and fur stuck to your jeans?’ he asked, putting down the newspaper he was earlier engrossed in.

Then it struck her, it wasn’t a dream. Her encounter with the wolf was real. She gulped, before looking over at Aaron Halliday, who had raised an eyebrow.

‘I-I stepped in a muddy puddle on the way back from work, and the fur was from Mr. Branch’s cat.’ She said, cringing at how bad her lie was.

‘Well OK… but I hope you didn’t go through the woods.’ He said, looking down at his newspaper again. She gulped, more silently this time, and continued eating her Lucky Charms.

When she finished, she placed her bowl in the sink, before walking down the hallway to her bedroom.

Nadine and her dad lived in a small one-story house that had a loft. Nadine always wanted to know what was upstairs, but her father never allowed her to venture up there.

She walked into her bedroom, shutting the door behind her. She walked towards her timber set of drawers, and opening the first drawer.

She searched through it, before finding a pair of brown skinny jeans and a cream short sleeved shirt with black polka-dots.

She laid them on her bed, before sliding her favorite light-denim button-up jacket off its coat-hanger and onto the bed.

She tied her hair into a pony-tail with an elastic, before walking towards the bathroom. She closed the door, locking it, before stripping out of her clothes.

She twisted the hot and cold knobs in the shower, until she had the right temperature. She stepped in and let the water rush down her back.

‘See you dad!’ Nadine exclaimed, watching Aaron wave from inside the house. She continued walking until she sat in the bus-stop.

She looked down at her black combat boots, chewing the end of her dark-brown hair, which she had tied up in a pony-tail.

‘Hey, Nadine!’ she heard a familiar voice calling her, making her look up.

‘Rachael!’ Nadine exclaimed, pulling her best-friend into a hug.

Rachael Bridgeman was a fare girl, with copper red hair and piercing blue eyes. She had a button nose, with a fare share of freckles sprinkled on top.

She was very girly, and always had a bow in her long hair.

She was wearing a floral short skirt, a tan t-shirt tucked into it and a similar denim jacket to Nadine's.

She had on a pair of sheer black tights and pair of black flats on her feet. As always, she has a bow in her, one with a print that matched her skirt.

‘Where’s Thomas?’ Nadine asked, pulling out of the hug.

‘Oh he’s sick today.’ Rachael said, twirling a piece of her hair.

‘Oh OK.’ Nadine said, her thoughts overtook by something she saw.

Everything across the street seemed to be in slow motion, as a caramel colored wolf looked at her, its red eyes sparkling.

She was soon shaken out of her thought by the honking horn of the bus. Rachael grabbed onto Nadine’s wrist, as they got a seat in the bus at the back.

‘Oh, have I told you about my new crush?’ Rachael asked Nadine, pulling her shoulder bag onto her lap.

‘No, no you didn’t.’ Nadine said her thoughts still on the wolf.

‘Well, it’s Harley.’ She said, clapping her hands.

You see, Rachael always had a new crush, almost every week. This week, it was Harley Kasmer, the tall lean and tanned senior from London.

He had a stunning accent, as it seemed as if all the girls drooled over him. But, to be honest, Nadine didn’t see what all the fuss was about.

‘Oh OK, understandable.’ Nadine replied, not noticing that the bus had pulled up outside of the school.

‘Oh come on Nad!’ Rachael screeched, tugging on her hand in a hasty state, like always. Nadine huffed, before letting Rachael pull her out of the bus.

When they reach school grounds, she sighed, weaving through the bustle of school hallways of Stratford Northwestern Secondary School.

When she reached her school locker, which luckily was located next to Rachael’s, she opened it, after twisting in the combo, and took out the textbooks she needed for English.

She waited for Rachael, before they both trekked through the hallways, towards the Junior English room. After walking in, and taking their usual seat at the back, they snapped open their textbooks, ready for class.

‘Hey baby.’ the annoying familiar voice of Levi Raines echoed through Nadine’s ears.

‘Hey Levi.’ She muttered, mumbling a string of curse words under her breath.

Levi Raines, the captain of the football team.

He wasn’t interested in any of the cheerleaders, he was only interested in boring, ordinary Nadine.

He had golden blonde hair and deep green eyes. He was gorgeous, Nadine had to admit, but his ego was humongous and he had this annoying clingy and vain personality.

‘So, how about me and you, movies on Friday.’ He said, winking at her.

‘No Levi.’ She said, burying her head in her hands and sighing.

‘Come on babe, give us a chance.’ Levi said, before the class was interrupted by Justin Bieber. Everyone shifted in their seats to face him, who, like always, had a dark glint in his eyes.

Justin Bieber was the most mysterious, strange and hottest boy in the school. He was always angry and had zero-to-none friends.

He never smiled and he never talked. Apparently, he knocked out one of the seniors from the basketball team last year, and shoved two teachers out of the way with one blow.

He scared everyone, even the teachers. He gave the class a scowl, before the teacher interrupted the class with the preparations for the day.

Forgetting to snap out of her gaze from Justin’s dirty-blonde hair that was flicked to perfection, and his well toned body, Nadine didn’t realize Justin looking at her.

When she did, she noticed the normal dark glint in his eyes was gone and a caramel color there to replace it.

What she couldn’t believe next, was the small smile that was twitching on his lips. Nadine shut her eyes quickly, before slowly turning towards the front of the classroom.

She turned to the appropriate page in her textbook, feeling the constant burn of eyes staring at the side of her head.
