Scurrilous Stories

"I-It can't be..." she stuttered, stepping back and dropping the black shotgun that was in her hand.
"I-I didn't know it was her love. Please..." he coughed out, crying.
"You killed her!" she screamed, breaking down and collapsing on her knees.
"Baby please. I love you." he said, as she looked up.
There was a brief silence, before a cough was heard.
"I love you too." she cried out, burying her head in her hands.

26. Grim Goodbye

|Chapter 26|

Grim Goodbye

Nadine Halliday breathed out the breath she was holding in for what felt like forever.

She tightly clutched to the string she was holding, which was securing the balloon that was attached to it.

“OK, you may go in now.” The nurse reassured, nodding in my direction before walking into another room.

I sighed and pushed open the door looking over at Thomas Anderson, her best friend. He was looking up at the TV, and when he saw Nadine he smiled slightly.

“Hey, I haven’t seen you since forever.” Thomas croaked out, before clearing his throat.

Nadine felt like crying at his appearance. He was such a good-looking boy, and his appearance was somewhat ruined by the accident he had.

Nadine knew this was her fault, but she couldn’t figure out why.

“I know, I’m sorry I haven’t been visiting regularly.” She whispered the apology and sat next to Thomas on a fold-out chair, holding the balloon out in front of her.

Thomas took the string and smiled up at the balloon.

“Get well soon sexy? Wow, you actually found a balloon that said that. I’ve been looking for one for like, forever!” Thomas exclaimed, laughing at his joke.

Nadine laughed along with him, glad his accident didn’t affect his humor or his amazing personality.

“How are you holding up?” Nadine asked him, taking his hand as a friendly gesture. He squeezed her hand then sighed.

“Well, to be honest, it’s not all good. At least my shoulder is practically recovered, and the scratches in my neck arms and legs are scabbed up. Well, my eye… it’s not good.” He said, referring the bandage over his left eye.

Nadine nodded and tucked a piece of her chocolate brown hair behind her ear.

She felt bad for not visiting him as much as Rachael did, which was practically everyday.

“Mr. Anderson would you like your lunch now?” a nurse asked from the door, looking over at me before looking at Thomas again.

“Yeah ok, thanks Shelly.” Thomas replied, nodding his head.

When the nurse left, Nadine stood up, fixing her clothes.

“Going already?” Thomas asked, pouting his chapped lips.

“Yeah, sorry Tommy. I’ll see you tomorrow though; we can watch a movie or something.” She reassured, leaning over and kissing Thomas’s cheek.

“Ok, thanks for visiting me Nad.” Thomas smiled up at Nadine, giving her hand one last squeeze before letting go.

“Get well soon sexy.” Nadine said, winking at him, hearing his laugh before walking towards the elevator.

She smiled at herself, feeling much better for visiting Thomas, before she walked through the automatic sliding doors in the ICU ward.

She retreated towards room 24 and sighed, walking in on an unconscious Levi Raines. The nurses informed her he was in a coma, three days after he was admitted.

It’s been about a week and he still hasn’t woken up.

Nadine sighed and sat next to him, holding his hand too. She didn’t want to reject him, but she didn’t have feelings for him anymore, she had feelings for Justin.

“Hi Levi.” She breathed out silently.

“I just wanted to tell you,” she paused and set out what she was going to say in her mind.

“I-I well… you deserve better than me. I thought of you differently to what you actually are, and I regret that, a lot. I want you to move on, find someone that can love you. Because well, I’m falling for someone else and I can’t be with you. You are such a sweet, funny caring, nice person and you gave me everything I could’ve asked for in a guy. I love you Levi, just not like that.” She said, leaning over and giving his lips one last gentle peck, before letting go of his hand.

“goodbye.” she whispered, walking towards the door and into the hallway, her heart aching slightly.
