Scurrilous Stories

"I-It can't be..." she stuttered, stepping back and dropping the black shotgun that was in her hand.
"I-I didn't know it was her love. Please..." he coughed out, crying.
"You killed her!" she screamed, breaking down and collapsing on her knees.
"Baby please. I love you." he said, as she looked up.
There was a brief silence, before a cough was heard.
"I love you too." she cried out, burying her head in her hands.

Earnest Explanations

Nadine Halliday sat at the top of a hill in the fields.

She was waiting for Justin, who was unusually late. She picked at the dry grass until she heard shoes crunching against the ground.

She stood up, brushing the grass from her pants to face a smiley Justin.

“baby.” Justin cooed, pulling her into him.

She giggled and smiled up at him, kissing his pink lips. He kissed back, before pulling out to kiss her nose.

“I missed you at school today.” Nadine said a small pout on her lips.

“I missed you too, so much.” Justin said, sending her a crooked smile and hugging her to his chest again.

“Eww Justin!” Nadine screamed, backing away from her boyfriend.

“Whoa, what?!” Justin asked, spinning around to face her again, to see she was pinching her nose.

“You smell like a dead body.” She giggled, as Justin’s eyes widen. He kicked the ground with his shoe to think up an excuse.

“Umm well…. My dad and I went ah hunting for a deer…. And then um yeah…” Justin stammered as Nadine laughed at his nervousness.

“Justin why didn’t you take a shower then?” Nadine said, placing her hands on her hips. Justin’s cheeks were a bright red.

He hated lying to her.

“I didn’t notice the stink actually…. I thought I was careful.” He lied.

‘I knew the stink was there I just didn’t think it was big deal. It isn’t for a werewolf.’ He thought, shaking his head absent-mindedly.

“Well do you want to go to your house and take a shower? I can come with you.” Nadine offered, but Justin then remembered the welcoming party tonight.

He groaned and looked around him, his eyes settling on a tree.

“Actually, my dad is umm… re-flooring the house….” Justin said, looking over at Nadine’s confused face.

‘That was such a horrible lie.’ Justin thought, mentally face-palming.

“Oh ok…” Nadine trailed off, thinking Justin just didn’t want to take her home with him. After all, she didn’t think Jeremy liked her very much.

But Aunt Sienna and Uncle Bruce loved Justin.  They thought he was such a gentleman.

Nadine crossed her arms over her chest and swayed side to side.

Justin frowned at her, wondering why she was looking so sad. Had he said something wrong? Justin decided to tap into Nadine’s mind.

‘Am I really that bad? Why doesn’t Justin want to take me back to his house? His dad probably hates me. I’m so stupid.’

Justin sighed and walked over to her, cupping her face with his hands to bring her face up to meet his.

“Baby. You’re amazing. Don’t think you’re not good enough. I just…. My house is… well. I love you, so much.” Justin whispered, before kissing her lips.

She kissed back, wrapping her arms around her neck, ignoring the horrid stench.

Just as Justin was about to take it further, his phone started ringing.

Justin and Nadine both groaned and pulled out of the kiss, as Justin reached into his back pocket to retrieve his phone. He accepted the call and pulled the phone up to his ear.

“Justin where are you? Steve wants you to go around his place to get some things ready.” Jeremy spoke into the phone as Justin turned to Nadine, caressing her cheek and looking into her eyes.

“I'm here with my beautiful girlfriend.” Just murmured, making Nadine smile.

“What a surprise.” Jeremy snapped, startling Justin.

“Hey, what the hell?” Justin snapped raged.

“Look Justin. Just hurry up.” Jeremy sighed, before hanging up.

Justin sighed and looked back down at Nadine, who was looking up at him with sad eyes.

Justin slipped his phone back into his back pocket and kissed Nadine’s lips again.

“I’m so sorry baby. But I have to go.” Justin said, scratching the back of his neck.

Nadine sighed and twisted the white-gold ring with the small pink sapphire her father gave her for her 16th birthday.

“Look babe…” Justin trailed off, not exactly sure what to say.

“No it’s ok Justin, I get it.” Nadine muttered, turning around and heading down the hill.

Justin’s eyes turned blood red as he watched Nadine walk away from him. He wasn’t angry at her, he was angry at himself.

But he couldn’t just tell her that he was a werewolf.

He sped down the hill to walk in front of her, startling her. She gasped and covered her mouth, holding in a scream.

Justin sighed and closed his eyes, taking deep breaths and calming himself down. When he opened his eyes again Nadine had tears running down her face.

She opened her mouth to say something, but her jaw hung open limp, so she shut it again.

“Baby… please…” Justin whispered, a small whine escaping his lips. He swallowed the lump in his throat and looked up into her eyes, pouting.

Nadine took a deep breath and watched Justin intensively, before a sentence escaped her lips.

“Justin you can’t keep ignoring the fact that your eyes turn different colors,” she was about to continue when Justin opened his mouth.

When he was speechless, just as Nadine was a mere few seconds ago, she continued.

“It may be normal for your eyes to turn maybe green in the sun, because they’re hazel-ish, but purple and red!” Nadine exclaimed, shaking her head.

“I know baby… I can explain.” Justin said, running a hand through his hair.

“Then explain!” Nadine shouted, throwing her hands in the air.

“I, I will. Just….. Not now.” Justin muttered, staring down at his feet.

“Then when Justin?” Nadine asked softly, another tear trailing down her cheek.

Seeing and hearing Nadine cry broke Justin’s heart in two and as much as he wanted to break down right now, he couldn’t.

She was determined to get answers, but he didn’t want to scare her away after he reveals his deep dark secret.

“Meet me at ten o’clock tonight. At ahh…” Justin thought, thinking about where his uncle lived.

“366 Saint David Street. You… just… come prepared.” Justin whispered, kissing her lips again and running off towards the road where he’d parked his dad’s car.
