Scurrilous Stories

"I-It can't be..." she stuttered, stepping back and dropping the black shotgun that was in her hand.
"I-I didn't know it was her love. Please..." he coughed out, crying.
"You killed her!" she screamed, breaking down and collapsing on her knees.
"Baby please. I love you." he said, as she looked up.
There was a brief silence, before a cough was heard.
"I love you too." she cried out, burying her head in her hands.

5. Deplorable Decision

|Chapter 4|

Deplorable Decision

Nadine changed into her pajamas and opened the bedroom door, to venture out in the hallway. When she reached the living room, she sat on the couch next to Aaron.

Aaron switched his gaze from the TV to Nadine and she looked at him.

“How was work?” Nadine asked Aaron, pressing her lips together.

“Fine.” He replied with a sigh.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Nadine asked, shifting in her seat so she could get a better view of her father.

“My boss wants to give me a promotion. He wants me to work in a bigger industry.” Aaron said, shaking his head slightly.

“Dad that’s great! What’s there to be sad about?” Nadine exclaimed

“But the bigger office complex is in New York.” He mumbled, watching Nadine’s eyes turn the size of saucers.

“What?! New York!” Nadine yelled, jumping off the couch.

“Look pumpkin, I know it’s a long way away but I’m thinking of the promotion. We’ll have so much money. I can give you as much as I’ve always wanted to.’ Aaron pleaded, standing up to face Nadine.

“But dad, my friends! My job! I’ve grown up here in Stratford dad! I don’t want to leave! I have everything I need here!” Nadine exclaimed, her hands tangled in her hair.

“Look sweetheart, calm down. I’m still taking this in myself. You can make new friends in New York. We can come down here to visit family. It’s just that this, is a one in a life time opportunity and I don’t want to let it slip though my fingers. Why don’t you think about? I’ll make us some cocoa.” Aaron said, before slowly walking towards the kitchen, the worry lines defined on his face.

Nadine sighed and walked the other way, back towards her bedroom, to think this all through.

It was hard enough she had Justin to worry about, but now the move?

Maybe her Aunty Sienna and Uncle Bruce would let her stay with them?

She shook her head before slamming her bedroom door and trudging over to her bed, where she lay down.

She looked up at the ceiling before closing her eyes. She heard her text message tone, so she reached over to her bedside table to grab her phone.

It wasn’t until then, that she realized she was crying. She wiped the tears away with her thumb and picked up her phone, looking for the new notification.

Tom ;):

Hey, how’s it goin’?

Nadine smiled as her other best-friend, Thomas Anderson, had sent her a text even though he was sick.

Nadine:

Hey, everything’s good, hbu?

Tom ;):

Yeah it’s ok over here, did Rachael tell u I was sick?

Nadine:

Yeah, awww sorry tom :(

Tom ;):

It’s ok Nad, just a flu. Nothing 2 worry bout ;)

Tom Anderson had chestnut brown hair and crystal-clear blue eyes. He had a strong Tennessee accent, as he was born in Nashville and only came to Canada 3 years ago.

[SEAN O'DONNELL]

He and Nadine had been friends ever since he walked through the front door of their school at the time, and they instantly clicked. They knew they would be friends forever.

Nadine:

R u coming 2 school tomoz?

Tom ;):

Yep, get readyyy for all this sexiness ;)

Nadine chuckled at Thomas’s craziness, before settling her phone down on the quilt cover. She sighed, coming back to reality, and pulled out one of her supernatural magazines.

She was crazy about vampires, zombies, werewolves and all sorts of mythical creatures.

She found them fascinating, one of the only things she had to take her out of the chaotic reality she was living in.

She flipped to the first page, where many advertisements and the contents page was printed. She was about to flip to the next page, when she heard a knock at her door.

“Come in.” she muttered, her door soon opening afterwards.

Aaron walked in, balancing two cups of cocoa in his hands. Nadine shot up, quickly grabbing one cup.

“Thanks dad.” She murmured, before they both sat down on her bed.

“Look sweet pea, I know you don’t want to leave your friends, but it’s a hard decision.” Aaron said, before taking a sip of his drink.

“Yeah I know.” Nadine mumbled, before Aaron kissed her forehead.

“Think about it tonight pumpkin, lights out.’ He said, before getting up and closing the door behind him.

Nadine placed her cup on her bedside table before slipping into the covers. She sat up, clutching her magazine with one had, and grabbing her cup with the other.

She cautiously left her lamp on, before reading her magazine and drinking her cocoa.
