Journey of the Star Bearer

The story of a girl and her fight to save her people and what she believes in.

6. The Dream

I WAS FLOATING. Nothing worried me. I flew through the sky, no responsibilities to hold me down. I was free.

A giant bird of flame came down swallowed me up and dumped me in a boxing ring. People jumped on top of me, throwing all their worries onto me, using me as a solution. I had gone from flying free, to being a prisoner in chains of generations of problems and responsibilities. Why was I a solution? I was so lost, all alone in the universe, one girl against a whole race and with no one to help. Then the dream changed.

The lead Hunter was there. As was a shadow that terrified me, even though I knew I wasn’t the one in trouble.

“You have defied me,” whispered the shadow in a voice so quiet I had to strain my ears to hear it.

The Hunter stood there, her head hanging low. The shadow laughed a laugh as cold as ice that cut through me with a shiver. It sliced me with a simple stroke.

The shadow lifted an object and a bolt shot out and the Hunter started screaming a terrible scream of pain. She collapsed, still screaming. Then he turned to me.

“Your turn, Star Bearer.” He grinned, menacingly.

He raised the object and I started screaming. I was woken, still screaming, unaware of what was happening around me, only of the never ending pain.

  He was coming for me.
