Melody: A One Direction Fanfiction (Sequel to Gwen)

I am Melody Malik, and someone is after my family. I don't know who, but they're targeting us all.

7. Just a Glimmer

As we stood just outside the airport waiting for our father, I glanced at my siblings.

Gwen was exhausted. She looked about ready to fall over. Her usually-neat blond hair was a mess, and her t-shirt and jeans were wrinkled from sleeping on the plane. The fact that she had two twelve-year-olds and an eight-year-old to care for, as well as being in her early pregnancy, couldn't be helping much.

Robin looked like he was cheering up a little. A teenager on the plane had seen him crying and given him a tattered copy of an old American book called N.E.R.D.S, which he clutched in his hand. He was chattering on and on about some secret agency involving only kids. Nobody listened, but he didn't seem to notice.

Oceana was basically just standing there, staring at something on her iPod. I peered over her shoulder.

It was a picture of Mum, Dad, myself, her, Robin, and Gwen at Gwen's wedding last year. She had taken a picture of the framed photograph in Mum and Dad's room before we had to leave for Gwen's. We looked so happy and carefree. A feeling that seemed so far away after only three days.

Oceana was rarely upset, and it made me very uncomfortable when she was. She was the optimistic twin whenever I was the pessimistic one, and she was the one that knew how to make everybody laugh.

There was only one thing to do.

I eyed a woman that was yelling at her son for taking his Boy Scouts knife with him. "She looks like she could use some lightening up." I muttered to my twin. She looked at me, confused. I held out my left hand. Finally, she understood.

"You're right." her face formed into a mischievous smirk as she took an ice cube out of her water and handed it to me.

Quietly, I slinked over to the woman. Her son noticed me out of the corner of his eye. I put my pointer finger over my mouth in the universal "shhh" sign. He gave a minuscule nod.

Silent as a mouse, I slipped the ice cube into the back of her dress and speed-walked back to my siblings.

"Melody, I swear I..." Gwen started, but quickly noticed that Oceana and Robin were laughing. "I'm willing to pay you."

I winked and noticed the glimmer in Gwen's eyes when she finally began to laugh at the woman, who was jumping up and down and trying to dislodge the ice cube as her son laughed and laughed.

Just a glimmer. But it was enough.
