Beautiful Nightmares

Bella Tomlinson, sister of Louis Tomlinson, gets pregnant with Liam Payne's baby. No worries, right? Wrong. The next nine months is complete and utter chaos, even more so when a once loved work colleague changes his mind about Bella for the worse. Will Bella and Liam's love last long enough to see their baby together, or will Rick make sure that death does them part?

4. Remebering the Fight

~~I made my way back to the hotel, dripping on the carpet. I showered and laid my dress out for the next day, Eleanor and Louis's wedding. For a while I sat in bed and read, waiting for Liam to get back.  I fingered my whale bone necklace, cool on my fingers. Just a small token to show how much he loved me, cared for me. Some days, he felt like more than a boyfriend, he felt like my best friend, my soul mate. The person I was meant to be with. In a way, I felt jealous of El, who could finally be lawfully linked to the one she loved, my brother Louis. I heard the click of the door as Liam unlocked it and let himself in.
He said, placing something on the table and sitting next to me.
I answered back, not looking up from my book.
"I bought dinner. You hungry?"
I shut the book.
He took a two beef burgers out of the bag.
"We're in Fiji and eating food we could get anywhere in England."
Liam let out a feeble giggle and handed me the packet, while unwrapping his. We ate in an uneasy silence. This was the first proper moment we’d had alone together after the incident the bathroom.
"What's wrong?" He finished his burger, wiping his greasy fingers on his new shorts.
"Nothing." I didn’t like letting on that I was still thinking about this morning.
"I'm just tired, that's all."
He put his arm around me.
"You can tell me anything."

"Liam, I told you, it's nothing."

"Tell me."

"There's nothing to tell!"
I found myself raising my voice.
"Just... Stop, ok? Sorry. I get cranky when I'm sleep deprived."

"It's ok. Shit happens."
I felt him kiss me on the cheek.
"Remember our first fight?"

"I try not to."

"Same. It was scary. I thought you would leave me."

He shifted so I was snuggled up in his body.

"I would never leave you, ever. I promise right here that I will always stay by you forever.”

He closed the door quietly, hoping that I wouldn't hear.

"Where the hell have you been?"
I stood in my pajamas, voice cutting like a knife through the silence of the house.
Liam stood awkwardly, hardly daring to look me in the eye.

"With the boys."
He mumbled so low that it was barely audible.

"Doing what?"

"Mucking around at Harry's place."

"Ok." I gave a fake smile. "Come over here so I can kiss you."

Liam smiled back at me, shuffling forward like a child coming to greet his mother. He was falling for it.

"Liar!" I shouted, smelling the alcohol on him.
"You've been out drinking haven't you?"

He stared at the carpet, ashamed, avoiding eye contact.

"Why didn't you call me? You didn't think that I'd get worried?"

"Well I assumed-"

"YOU ASSUMED WHAT? What Liam? Just assumed that I would mind if you stayed out until three in the morning? Just assumed that I wouldn't be practically in tears worried for you? What if something happened? What if-"

I started to cry.

"Then what are you saying?"
His tone softened, seeing I was upset. I never cried.

I wiped away the tears trickling down the end of my nose.
"Please let me know the next time you stay out late. Please. I love you, and I don't want anything bad to happen to you. "

Liam pulled me into his arms.
"Honey, I'm sorry, I should have called."

I shrugged him off.
"Don't honey me."

"Come on. Look, I'm sorry for making you feel this way. I'll make it up to you. I promise."

We haven't had a fight since then. Not a proper one at least. Sure, we’d had stupid kid fights over the TV remote, and I-love-you-more battles, which can get quite fierce, but never big ones like the one we had that night. Maybe it's because we avoid it, because saying one thing that you may not mean could lead to us breaking- up.  I honestly could not imagine life without Liam with me. Coming home to an empty house. Nothing seeming to amuse you anymore. Life becoming pointless, grey, dull. Nothing to live for.

I shivered at the thought. Alone. Without him.

Liam pulled me closer to him, kissing me softly on the top of the head. We stayed like that for the rest of the night, intertwined in each other. Together.

"Mummy where are we going?"
She stared up at me, blue eyes like my own.
"Nowhere special."
I focused on the road, frowning at the traffic.
"Mummy I need to use the bathroom!"
Another voice piped up from the back seat.
"Mummy I'm thirsty!"
And another.
"Be quiet kids. I'm driving."

"Mummy she pinched me!"

"Did not!"

"Did so!"

"Did not!"

"Did s-"

"Put a sock in it, all of you!"
I leaned back, to deal with the others.
"I'm trying to drive."

"But mummy-"

"No buts, I-"

"Mummy look out for the truck!"

That was the last thing I heard before the blackness closed in, and the pain rocketed through my body. The kids. I tried to lift my head, see into the rear view mirror. The backseat was covered in blood. And my children, my babies were lying in it. Dead. All dead.

I woke up screaming, drenched in a cold sweat. In an instant, Liam was by my side, comforting me.
"What happened?"

"The children... Car crash... They're dead."

"Who's dead?"

"The kids!"
I said hysterically.

"What kids?"

It took me a second to realize that I was awake.

"O-our children."

"Bella what are you on about? We don't have children."

"It was a dream."

"Another one?"

My voice cracked.

"Baby, you've got to stop having these nightmares, they're stressing you out."

"I don't know how to!"
I burrowed into Liam’s chest. He ran his fingers through my hair.

"Just think about something else. Something like..."

"What you and Harry were talking about in the pool?"

He let go of me, his expression alarmed.

"Did you hear anything?"

"No! It's just, I was curious. Sorry."

He held onto me again.

"It's natural. You'll find out tonight anyway."

"Can't you just tell me now?"

"Never. Wait until after the wedding."

I crossed my arms, sticking my bottom lip out like a little kid.

"Why not?"
I whined, blinking rapidly for affect.

"Just because I feel like making you suffer. Get some sleep, you don't want to be all grumpy for tomorrow."

"Fine. Good night Liam."
I rolled over again. I didn’t sleep for the rest of the night.
