Beautiful Nightmares

Bella Tomlinson, sister of Louis Tomlinson, gets pregnant with Liam Payne's baby. No worries, right? Wrong. The next nine months is complete and utter chaos, even more so when a once loved work colleague changes his mind about Bella for the worse. Will Bella and Liam's love last long enough to see their baby together, or will Rick make sure that death does them part?

17. It's a Girl

~~It’s been a month since Ri went into her coma. She still hasn’t woken up. We had lost all hope of her ever opening her eyes. Niall was the only one that believed otherwise. He would drive to the hospital every morning and stay there until visiting hours were over.
Today, I was getting my ultra-sound to determine the gender of my baby. We had to come considerably early while it was still dark to hide my baby bump. It had swollen more intensely over the last month. The baby was still kicking, usually when I least wanted it to like when I trying to sleep. Sleep was very scarce these days. But I was thankful for my lack of rest sometimes. No sleep meant no nightmares.
“If we see the paparazzi come at us, Paul will carry you back to the car. You can’t run.”
Liam said as we pulled up to the hospital.
“You don’t know anything about pregnancy, do you? Doctors say you can exercise until a week before you have the baby.”
“I’m not taking any chances.”
Liam said firmly, taking my hand as the security guards surrounded us.
Zayn and Perrie met us at the entrance. I hugged both of them. We hadn’t seen any of our friends since Niall and Ri were in the car crash. If it weren’t for Liam, the isolation would have driven me crazy.
I held my best friend gratefully, our matching baby bumps making it awkward.
“We’ll be out in ten minutes.”
Liam said to the body guards as we entered the building.
It took a lot longer than ten minutes, most of it waiting. Finally we were called in. They told me to lie down, while I lifted up my shirt. I clutched Liam’s hand tight. The doctors placed some sort of device on my stomach. A blurry image appeared on screen. They studied it for a while.
“It looks like you’ve got a little girl there.”
I let out a choked laugh, tears of happiness running down my cheeks. Liam had the same expression on his face. He held me tight. When Perrie and Zayn came out of their room, they looked just as happy.
“It’s boy!”
She squealed, jumping around.
“We’ve got a girl!”
I said, hugging her.
“I just can’t believe it.”
“I’m going to-“
Liam clapped his hand over my mouth. I looked up at him. His face was worried, scared and angry at the same time. And he was just staring into a corner, where a man with a video camera and a huge grin on his face was standing.
“Shit. Run!”
He seized my hand and sprinted with me down stairs, Perrie and Zayn following in our wake. We slammed the car door. I burrowed into Liam’s shoulder. This was it. They would never leave me alone. They began pounding on the car window, flashing cameras in our faces.
“I will run over you.”
Zayn threatened from the drivers seat. They didn’t move, but got more excited. Zayn revved the engine to show he meant business. They backed off a bit then. Zayn seized the chance and accelerated out of the parking lot. The body guard’s cars surrounded us on the highway.
I stared into space. My life of privacy was over.
I ran straight upstairs when we got back, into the shower in attempt to drown myself. I just cried. I don’t know how long for. But the water running down my cheeks hid my tears. So I could kid myself nothing was happening.
“Bella? You’ve been in there for half an hour, can you come out now?”
Liam knocked shyly on the door. I sniffed and turned off the shower, throwing on some underwear before opening the door.
Liam pulled me into a hug almost immediately.
“It’s ok.”
I wrapped my arms around his neck.
“It’s not though, is it?”
I mumbled, pulling away to get my clothes on.
“We’ll make it through this, I pro-“
He stopped.
“What the hell it that!”
He demanded, pointing a finger at the small of my back. He was gesturing at the little ‘souvenir’ Rick had given me on our last encounter. The ugly purple bruise had paled into a sickly custard yellow, but it was still visible.
“I fell over.”
I said hurriedly.
“No you didn’t.”
Liam grabbed my waist from behind.
“Somebody’s hurt you, haven’t they?”
He said in a dangerously soft voice.
“No, I fell over on the stairs, I swear-“
“Don’t give me that bullshit!”
He said, voice rising.
“Who did this to you?”
I shook my head, fresh tears pouring down my cheeks.
“He’ll kill you if I tell.”
I whispered.
“Not if I kill him first. Bella, answer me. Who did this?”
I looked him straight in the eyes.
“If I tell you, promise not to do anything. He will kill you.”
Liam took a deep breath.
“I promise.”
“It’s Rick.”
I blurted.
“That guy who works with you!?”
I nodded, silently.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“He said he’d kill you!”
I sobbed.
He pulled me into another hug.
“I’m going to get that bastard arrested.”
“No! You promised you wouldn’t do anything! Please Liam, he really will kill you.”
I pleaded in desperation. His livid expression softened.
“Ok. But you’re not going back there after.”
I nodded.
“You hungry?”
He asked, as we broke away. I smiled, and went to follow him to the kitchen.
“Bells? You’re not wearing any clothes.”
I looked down at myself and shrugged.
“I’ve got underwear on. Why do you care anyway?”
“We’ve got guests.”
My eyes widened.
I said in a shrill voice, groping for a towel on the rack.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“We just got here like five minutes ago.”
Harry said, grinning as he stepped into the bathroom.
“Oh my God, Harry!”
I shrieked, shying away behind Liam.
“Harold for goodness sake!”
What I thought to be Lola’s hand reached out and seized Harry by the sleeve of his shirt.
“I’ll leave you to get changed.”
Liam stroked his thumb against my cheek. He bent down and kissed my baby bump through the towel too.
“My two little girls.”
He said fondly, shutting the bathroom door behind me. I discarded my towel and looked down at the swollen lump of flesh that had once been my stomach. It was scary, but overjoying at the same time.
I changed into a pair of light blue jeans and a plain white blouse, pulling a grey sweatshirt over top.
“Hey Bella!”
Lola pulled me into a hug.
“Your little bump is getting in the way!”
She exclaimed.
“I know.”
I sighed.
“We’ve missed you.”
Lola said, hugging me again despite my baby bump.
“Missed you too.”
The doorbell rang
“If that’s the paparazzi…”
Liam said menacingly
Harry said, opening the door
“I ordered pizza!”
I snatched a piece of pizza off Liam’s plate.
He pretended to be mad with me.
“Well I’m eating for two now.”
I saw Lola quickly steal a piece of Harry’s pizza too.
“What’s your excuse then?”
Harry asked, pouting at Lola.
I quickly grabbed another piece from Liam.
“That was three!”
He pouted
I smirked nibbling daintily.
“It’s hard making a human being, Liam.”
“I am going to eat on the floor where you can’t steal my pizza anymore.”
He huffed, and excused himself from the table.
“Oh can’t I?”
I followed him to the floor. Liam seized me from behind and started tickling me mercilessly.
“Oh my god, stop it!”
I giggled. He released me.
“I love you.”
He said suddenly.
I rolled my eyes.
“What do you want?”
Liam’s face went serious.
“I didn’t choose to make this happen, you know that, right?”
Fear clutched my heart. I hadn’t expected him to say anything.
“Choose to make what happen?”
Liam bit his lower lip, nervously.
“I don’t want to do it, you’ve got to understand that. Management is forcing us to.”
“Liam, what’s happening?”
“I told them it was an inconvenient time for us. I mean, you and Perrie pregnant and Ri in a coma-“
“Shut up and tell me what the hell is going on!”
I found myself raising my voice.
Harry answered quickly before Liam could.
“We have to go on a tour of England. It’s only a few cities, but it’ll take about eight weeks.”
Liam exhaled, letting go the breath he had taken in preparation to tell me himself.  I blinked rapidly.
I whispered, hoarsely.
“Did you know?”
I addressed Lola, who looked just as shocked as I felt. She shook her head slightly, and grabbed onto Harry’s arm as if to keep him with her forever.
“We’re being forced. You need to understand that.”
“I need you here.”
“I know-“
“No you don’t!”
I yelled.
“I physically need you here. I’m pregnant, Liam. And I’m scared.”
I knew I was over-reacting. Tears began welling up in my eyes.
“I don’t want to go.”
Liam said gently, laying a hand on my shoulder.
“Then don’t!”
I wrenched myself out of his grasp, and threw open the door.
I slammed the door in his face, jogging into the semi-darkness.
