Life as Somebody Different

Hope Carta is soon to find out she is a witch and will attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At first she thinks she is strange and slightly abnormal however she soon realises that she is just as sane as everybody else. Hope's life changes for the better and meets a boy who is famous and his name is Harry Potter.

3. The Truth

"A witch?" Hope's mother said once she had showed her the letter, "And Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I've never heard of it!"

Hope looked back down at the letter and something clicked.

"I'm a witch!" She exclaimed jumping up and down on the spot.

She pulled out another letter from the envelope which she soon found to be the supply list

"Uniform," She read, "Three sets of plain work robes (black), one plain pointed (black) hat for day wear, one pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar),one winter coat (black, silver fastenings). Please note all student's clothes should carry name tags." Hope was confused; dragon hide or similar, she had never heard of it and where was she supposed to find all of this? In a fancy dress shop?

Hope began reading the books which were needed, " Standard Book Of Spells (Grade one) by Miranda Goshawk, A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, A Beginners Guide to Magic by Emeric Switch, One Thousand Magical Plants and Fungi by Phyllida Spore, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander and The Dark Forces: A Guide To Self Protection by Quentin Trimble. But I have never heard of any of these or the authors,"

Hope looked over at her father who until this moment had been completely silent.

"Dad? Are you ok?" Hope asked, peering round at her dad who looked too overwhelmed to speak.

"I'm so proud of you!" He said, stuttering slightly, "You're just like me!"

Hope's jaw dropped. "So you're saying that you're a witch too?"

"Well a wizard at least," He replied

"Robert?" Hope's mother spoke this time, "What do you mean?"

"I was born, like you Hope, with a dad who was a wizard. My mother, however, was a muggle."

"Muggle?" Hope asked, once again, confused.

"Non-magic folk, like your mother, anyway, he married my mother and they had me. I, like you, Hope, received my acceptance letter to Hogwarts the day I turned 11 too. We all do. Every single witch or wizard who lives in the United Kingdom and maybe some other countries will attend Hogwarts. I was taught not only how to use magic there but how to control it and I was hoping you, Hope, would be just like me too. And look, you are! I couldn't be prouder!"

Hope stood, listening and hanging onto every word with awe. She couldn't believe it.
