2. Truth Comes Out

“Uh, someone’s here to see you,” I told my dad.

“Who is it?” He asked, putting on a decent shirt.

“Not sure,” I lied. He shrugged and I left the room.  I was a little anxious to hear why Harry was here. It was strange to say the least. I walked back into the living room where Harry sat on the dark sofa. I sat down across from him.

“So, do I get to know why you’re here?” I asked, curious.

“Uh,” Harry tapped on his knees nervously, “I-I think that he should probably know first.” I nodded. I couldn’t help staring at him. His eyes were exactly like Lucy’s. Even his face looked kinda like her. He must of noticed me staring, because he cleared his throat.

“Sorry, it’s just,” I hesitated. He’d probably think I was a complete freak. The again, what did I care, “You look so much like my sister.”

“Really?” Harry smiled, amused.

I nodded, “In fact, she’s a pretty big One Direction fan.”

“Then she ought to be in for a big surprise,” He muttered, thinking I couldn’t hear him. I just nodded and waited for my dad in silence.

“How many siblings do you have?” He asked.

“Uh, 2 brothers, 2 sisters.” I answered. Why would he care?

“So there’s five of you?” He asked.

“Yeah,” I replied, “Why?”

“Just a big family,” He answered quietly, “I’ve always wanted a lot of brothers and sisters.”

Soon enough, my dad entered the living room.  I watched as he looked up at Harry, and his face turned pale. His expression was nervous and panicking inside. That was rare for him. Harry stood up and cleared his throat.

“I need to talk to you.” He said sounding cold and more demanding. My dad calmed down and turned to me.

“Go help your brother with his homework.” He commanded.

“No, I want to make sure at least she knows.” Harry said, angrily. My dad decided not to push anything and let me stay, “You know why I’m here.”

“Yes, I do.” My dad admitted.

“Then you know what question I’m going to ask.” Harry said, “Why did you let her lie to us? Why would you lie to your family?”

“We were both married! We were both drunk off out heads! How could we tell anyone?” My dad replied.

“It would be better to know who my real father is!” Harry yelled back, “You two hid so much from me! I had a whole other family that I didn’t know about!” I tuned out.

I remember my mother telling us about how right after their wedding, they visited London for their honeymoon. And she told me about how one night, my father disappeared and returned 5 hours later, saying how he witnessed a murder and the police kept him for questioning. She was so scared for him and was so relived he was alive. But he wasn’t talking to the police. He had met up with Harry’s mother, drunk. My dad was never one to get drunk. He cheated on my mom. He was so many things, but I had never thought he would be the one to betray my mom. I thought he loved her. I thought he loved us.  Why did he hide another family? A big brother. Growing up, I had always wanted a big brother. Someone to protect me from my dad when he was angry. But I was always the one doing the protecting.  Tears filled my eyes and without looking at either of them, I ran out the door.

I tried to stop the water from spilling out of my eyes, but it was no use. I ran as far as I could. I was so astonished that my dad would do that to us. He hid this whole other world I could have had. And it wasn’t fair at all. I stopped in my tracks to catch my breath. My mom would be devastated when she found out. I couldn’t tell her. She shouldn’t have to hear it from me. And she was already gone for a few days. Most likely after a fight. I heard the engine of a car drive up behind me. I picked my head up and continued to walk. It started to slow as it got closer to me.

“Can I give you a lift?” I turned around to see Harry in a ebony black SUV with dark tinted windows. He was leaned out of the driver’s window trying to get my attention, “Please?” He begged.

“I’ll be fine,” I kept my head up and continued to walk, “I just need some . . . air.”

“Look, I know how you feel,” He urged, “I was the same exact way when my mum told me.”

“Really?” I said in disbelief.

“Really,” He confirmed, “I  stormed out of my house in tears. Except I couldn’t go very far because of the fans.”

I stopped. I really didn’t have a reason not to like him. I looked over at him, and bit my lip, still undecided.

“Please.” He pleaded. I sighed and got into the passenger seat.

“Where are we going?” I grabbed the seat belt from above my left shoulder and pulled it to fasten on the right side of my waist.

“Where do you want to go?” Harry drove down the street and made a left, getting back onto the main road, “I don’t know this area very well.”

“Um, take this road all the way down until you hit Jeinkins Ave, then take a right.” I said. I wanted to go to the one place that always seemed to give me all of the inspiration I needed to get out of my problems.
