11. Regrets

"What was that?" I asked when we reached Tyler's hotel room.

"What was what?" She asked unlocking the suite.

"Tyler," I warned.

"Oh, just someone I didn't want to run into!" She shrugged, walking to the kitchen to make the popcorn. She was lying.

"I know that's not true." I stated. She froze.

"It's not," she said, "but I don't want to talk about it." She put the popcorn in the microwave, and walked out.

"Tyler, whoever that guy is, he's staying here," I was starting to get frustrated, "And it doesn't look like he's just gonna stay away."

"I know!" Tyler sighed, sitting on the couch, "It's just..." She trailed off. I had never seen her so scared. So down.

"If you tell me, it might make you feel better." I offered.

"What if you don't like what you hear?" She almost whispered.

"Well, I'm not leaving." I reassured her, "I don't judge and I don't leave. Past is past." She smiled.

"Alright," She began, "I started dating him in March. I thought he was the sweetest thing ever. He always told me I was beautiful, he wrote me little notes about how amazing I was, and he just seemed so romantic. I told him everything. He was my first real love." Her eyes started to water, "Then one day, we were alone, at a park, and..." She had trailed off and started wiping her eyes. I put my arms around her and held her. She took a deep breath and started again, "He tried to finger me. When I told him that I didn't want to do this, he asked, 'Well don't you love me?'

"I said, 'Yeah, but I'm just not ready to go that far.'

"That was when he threatened to tell everyone all the secrets I had at the time. He told me that I had to let him do that or we were through." She started to sob, "I let him. I hated every second of it. I hated myself! A week later, I broke up with him. He wasn't happy about that. So he made the threat again. When I said no, he told people at school that I had lost my virginity to him. After that I really didn't have any friends. Except one." She started to cry again.

I held her tight and smoothed her hair.

"He's a douche." I growled.

How could someone do that to her? She is so innocent! It's not fair! I looked at her. She looked so hurt and betrayed. She looked so broken. But she wasn't broken. She only thought she was. I let her cry for a few minutes until she calmed down.

"You're beautiful." I told her.

"What?" She looked confused.

"Do you know that?" I asked, "You are so beautiful and strong! You are the most amazing girl I've ever met."

"Really?" She scoffed, indicating her tear stained face and my tear stained shirt.

"You are!" I argued, "That guy is the most immature jackass I've ever heard of! He cheated."

"Cheated?" She asked.

"It's a metaphor," I explained, "See, he forced you into doing things you didn't want to do. That's cheating. You have to actually work to get and keep the girl. Obviously, he didn't even come close to winning!"

"When do you win?" She asked, becoming more interested.

"Death." I shrugged.

"What?" She raised her eyebrow.

"Yep," I nodded, "But you get the prize early."

"And that is?" She asked.

"Waking up to her beautiful face every morning. Trusting each other. She is your prize." I smiled at her.

She smiled back.

"Anyway," I sighed, "Douchebag didn't win. So someone else is going to have to try!"

"Not for a while." She muttered to herself.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"After that, I really didn't want to date." She explained, "I just wanted to be on my own. I can't seem to trust guys anymore."

"But you trust me." I said quietly.

"Yes," she smiled, "You and Harry are the only guys I've trusted since then. And thank you for that. Thank you for everything." She hugged me again. I hugged her back and kissed her forehead.

"Want to watch Elf now?" I asked. She nodded. I got the popcorn out of the microwave and started the movie.

Halfway through the movie, Tyler looked up at me.

"Thank you for making me tell you," she smiled, "Now that I've got it off my chest, I feel better."

"Actually," I gulped, "there's something I need to get off my chest." I couldn't take it anymore. That was when I stopped trying to stop liking her. I grabbed her face and kissed her. It felt so good to let go. I felt so happy, it felt right. Soon my mind realized what I had done and I was filled with regret. I pulled away, and got up without saying a word.

"Niall!" She started to follow me. But I was out the door. I was gone. I walked. I just walked. I didn't care where I was going.

Harry was going to kill me. I just ruined a great friendship with Tyler. How stupid could I be? She had just told me that hard story and I was so stupid. I felt tiny drops of water on my head. I looked up to dark clouds in the night sky. I jogged back to the hotel making it just before it started to really pour. I made my way up to my suite. I showered, then put on some shorts and an old t-shirt. I turned on the T.V. To try and drain tonight out of my memory. It had been two hours since. That's when I heard a knock at my door. I went up and opened it.

There Tyler stood, soaking wet. She was shivering and trying not to cry.

"I hate you, Niall Horan!" She told me.
