16. Headaches

"That was great, Girls!" Jack applauded from behind the glass wall.

"Really?" Jessie said sarcastically.

"What, you didn't like it?" Jack asked in disbelief.

"No!" Jessie whined. I had to agree. We've been in the recording studio for three weeks now here in LA. We were getting tired. I set my head phones down and took a seat near a little brown table. I put my elbows on the table and rubbed my temple. This was the 5th time this week I've gotten a headache. I've never gotten them this bad before. I assumed it was all the stress. Everything was moving so quickly. Our album is set to release in 2 months. Our weeks were filled with recordings and photo shoots and squeezing as many interviews as we possibly could to try to expand our popularity.

"Tyler, you alright?" Jack asked through the speakers.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I nodded, shutting my eyes tight. My head seemed to be pounding.

"You don't look fine, maybe we should take a break." He suggested.

"No, I'll be fine." I reached into my pocket and pulled out two aspirins. I grabbed my water bottle from the table and took the pills. I set the bottle down, stood up and smiled at the faces behind the glass. Sitting there wasn't only Jack. There were a few other men from management whose names kept slipping my mind. Harry was also there, who brought along Louis and Niall.

Niall and I still weren't on speaking terms. As much as I hated to admit it, I missed him. Even as a friend. But I guess I understood to some degree. I shook my head. I needed to stay focused on what was going on now.

"Alright," Jack shrugged, "Let's run over it one more time and then you girls will be done for the day."

We sighed but agreed. After we sang, Jack let us go. I dropped my head phones and went to the table to gather my things.

"Any luck with Liam yet?" I asked Jessie.

"Nope." She sighed.

"Well, with him here for a show, you have a little more time." I encouraged.

"I don't think so." She disagreed, "I don't think he understands that I just want to know why he kissed me. Nothing more."

I stuffed my water bottle in my satchel and stood up.

"I'm sorry." I apologized.

"Not your fault." She smiled, "Anyway, Liz and I are going out for lunch. Want to come?"

"Can't, I have errands to run. A friend is driving up here to meet me." I told her.

"Oh alright. I'll see you back at the hotel then?" She asked.

"Yes Mam!" I promised.

I grabbed my bag and walked out of the door.

"Where are you off to?" Harry questioned me.

"Meeting a friend to go shopping." I answered. Louis was chatting it up with Jack while Niall stood next to them, not looking like he was engaged in what they were talking about. I caught his eye, just for a moment, but quickly looked away.

"Well, tonight is movie night!" Harry announced.

"Oh, don't count me in. I should be out pretty late." I lied.

"What is with you?" Harry asked, not buying my bull excuse,"You don't really hang out with the boys and I anymore."

"Just been so busy," I explained, "I'm sorry. I really have to go. Next time though."

I can I had dialed for that morning was expected at any minute. I stood outside patiently waiting. One of my old friends, Kara, was interested in seeing me again. She just about insisted we meet up.

"Can we talk?" I voice behind me. I turned around to see Niall, with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

"Actually I'm heading some where." I told him, turning back around. I could see the cab turning into the street.

"Please, just hear me out." Niall begged. The cab pulled up just in time.

"Later." I said, slipping into the cab.

I handed the driver the address and situated myself. The door opened unexpectedly and Niall slipped in. He buckled up and smiled at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked, frustrated. And with that, the driver pulled away.

"I need to talk to you." Niall pushed.

"So you decided to catch a ride?" I stared.

"Uh, yes." He answered.

"Unbelievable." I whined. I glanced out the window. We would be there soon.

"I want to make things work." Niall told me.

"You know what, I tried, remember?" I said back, "What did you do then?"

"I know, but -

"But nothing." I interrupted, "You hurt me so much. I understood to a certain point, but cutting me off, that was too much. And I just don't know if I can just wait for you to do it again." The cab stopped and I paid the driver my fee and stepped out. I quickly walked towards the beach, not looking back. I walked up to a bench near the sand and sat down. As I looked around, I noticed that no one was here. I mean, it was in the beginning of January and this certain beach wasn't very popular. I wondered why Kara would pick this beach. I searched my satchel for my phone. I pulled it out and sent a message to Kara letting her know I was here. When the message sent, I heard a "ding" from behind me. I turned around to see a familiar face.

"Tyler, it's so good to see you." James smiled. My heart beat quickened as I fell into panic mode.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

"We never got to finish our conversation in Vegas." He sat down beside me, "I miss you, Ty."

"You've got to be kidding me." I whined, "Look, can you just leave me alone for good?"

"You don't miss me?" James asked.

"Why would I? You tricked me, lied to me, hurt me. I don't want to see you ever again." I got up and started to walk away.

"You can't get away that easy." James grabbed my arm and pulled me back.

"Let me go!" I ordered. I tried to pull away, but he was too strong.

"You know how hard I worked to see you when we were together? The least you could have done was pay me back?" James yelled at me.

"James, let me go!" I yelled back.

"No, you don't get to-

"Let her go!" A voice said. I immediately recognized it with Niall's.

"This your boyfriend?" James taunted me, "You can have her," he told Niall, pushing me away, knocking me down, "But she's used. She's no good anymore!"

"Don't you dare talk about her that way!" Niall warned walking towards him.

"Hey," James smirked, putting his hands up, "I don't want to fight. Just giving you more info." He turned to me and knelt down, "I'll see you around, Ty." He whispered. And with that, he left.

"Are you alright?" Niall asked, helping me up.

"Fine." I shook him off, "Thanks for... That. I'm gonna go now."

"Please, hear me out!" Niall begged, "I miss you. So much. I just want something to work."

I took a deep breath. He looked sincere. And believe it or not, I was a sucker for blue eyes.

"Alright." I caved in.
