3. Cake, Presents, and Confusion.

We all stumble down the stairs to the freezing basement. It's about the same layout size as the upstairs, one bedroom, storage and computer room, a bathroom, a large kitchen and living room area, and a hang out room; it can be used for almost anything. The walls are very light tinted, and the floor is carpet, which is very annoying to clean. There's a hallway, of torture, which leads to the bathroom, computer room, and bedroom. As we pretty much fall down the stairs we enter the small kitchen that is connected to the living room area.

"What should we do?" Kelly asks all smiley like normal.

"Mhh. We could play hide-in-seek in the dark, like always," Skylar answers.
  "Eh," I reply.

Almost every time we get together we play hide-in-seek. I'm not sure exactly why, but I guess it is because there's nothing else to do. It's also kind of like a tradition of some-sort. Hope and Ally nod their heads in agreement, but the rest give the idea a boring look. Guess that's not the solution.
"Let's just talk about drama at school. That's always fun! And get details on Sky's boyfriend!" Kelly says as she stretches the E on details.

 "We're fine," Sky smirks.

 Oh lovely. Something is up.

 "Tell us!" we all squeak.

 "Story time then?" Sky laughs.

 "Yes," I say.
We all hop into our positions on the couch, ready for the details.

"Well. Let's just say we finally had our first kiss!" She yells with a giant smile.
Oh My Gosh! When! Where? Why didn't you tell us! Was it perfect? These are the questions that loam over everyone's mind. She laughs again, and looks off in space a little, remembering.

"It was when we went to see Frozen yesterday. We were just holding hands in the movie theater. And you know that part where Oloft is singing about what it would feel like in summer?" she pauses.

  "Yeah," I say.

"Well, I could tell he was looking over at me, and I wasn't exactly sure why. I was kind of afraid something was wrong, but out of the corner of my eye I saw him smile for a quick second before his hand turned my head his way. He rested his hands under my chin, and I felt the need to cry. His touch was so gentle," she pauses again.

"Then he just brought me closer than ever and whispered me something. Who knows what, I was so memorized by his touch and eyes. Finally, he just leaned in even closer and brushed his lips with mine."

We're all staring at her shocked.

"How long was the kiss? Like a three or four?" Kelly asks.

  "I'm not sure," Sky laughs.

"That probably means that they ran into the bathroom and made out," Ally jokes.

"No! We ran to the back of the theater," Sky winks.

We all laugh, all of us knowing that they didn't bring it up. They went straight back to the movie. It's how they are.

Each birthday candle goes out as my breath smothers it's tip. I scream inside for the same wish as always, hoping this time it will come true. Every penny I've ever thrown into a fountain, every birthday candle since 2012, and even on 11-11-11. It's always been this constant wish. I want him beside me, with me for entirety. Forever and ever and ever. I want our lips to dance in the pouring rain, lighting surrounding us while connecting our heartbeats into one, into a rhythm. I've never wanted something so much, but he's all I want now. One single wish, that will never in a billion years come true.

I slice the cake, wordlessly. Every piece reminds of giving my heart to the ones around me. The ones are understanding and caring, who are always going to be there for me. I would die for them in a heartbeat, no matter how painful the death would be. I've never deserved anything that they give me, no presents, no love. I don't deserve the best friends I have, they're to fantastic. I thank God everyday for them, for giving me the people I need in my life.

I try forgetting my thoughts to open my presents. I open Kelly's first. I read the funny card about a guy named big john and that he took time off the potty to tell me happy birthday. I laugh and see her smile from the corner of my eye. Then I open Hope's. It's a card about sharing memories with the one's who deserve it, and then she has 'YOU' in quotations beside it. I thank her with a smile. I then go to Ally's. Some fancy lip-gloss and a eye shadow case that has about a billion colors in it, she doesn't have a card. So I thank her while lightly putting on the lip-gloss.

"No problem cuz," she says.

I end up opening Skylar's last, not on purpose but someone has to be last. She smiles as I reach for the bag and card. I always open the card first because I believe it's more respectful. It's homemade so I try to be extra careful. It reads,

"When in doubt run to your sister

                                if there's a special mister."

No matter how much you fall

YOU should know that in the end

someone is going to catch you in case.

It just so happens to be ME.

                                So please just don't panic,

                                because sisters are ALWAYS

                                going to be before misters."

I almost cry from the poem she wrote, but I look up at her and she's smiling. It helps me not to.

I swear half of my friends are drunk from soda, or they are all just really tired. We start doing stupid things, like spit taking on each other, and reenacting some prissy show I don't watch. I go up on the imaginary stage, say my name in a prissy tone, and strut on the stage.

"I'm miss prissy pants. I like oranges, tomatoes-"

"Wait. I was just thinking that, exactly," Ally says, she's a judge.

   "Really?" I ask.

"Yeah I was like that would be a ten if she said that. Then you said the exact words. What else were you going to say?" She asks, she's into all the mind reading stuff.

"Pineapples, peaches, and Garfield," I say.

   "Odd," She says.

   "It kinda is," Kelly says.

"Just a wild guess. Or it is? Maybe I can read minds," I laugh at the stupidy of the words I can read minds.

  "Next," Ally says awkwardly.
