7. Chapter 6

Everyone looked at each other in dismay. Josh, who had been too busy eating his lamb chops had no clue what he was going on. I looked at Saarah and she sent him the information. Suddenly, his mouth hung open.

“Cyan stole the book!” he whispered dumbly. Everyone rolled their eyes at him.

“There is only one choice left. One of you godlows must travel to defend the Phyriax Stone,” I noticed that he seemed to look at Sanic as he spoke, “and take back what is clearly one of yours.” A loud cheer went up. All eyes lay on Sanic. I remembered my dad’s words. “You have to know that you must be the one to go forth for the journey no matter how much you have to do to get it.”  I closed my eyes and imagined my mums’ faith in me and how my dad was already so proud. I didn’t want to let them down.

“Everyone gets to vote for a representative. But please choose sensibly. The one who goes might not return,” he added creepily. Slips were handed out to everyone, and soon everyone was scribbling down who they wanted to go. I decided to put my own name. Velocity Axy. Amelia and Tasmiya started to collect all the slips and handed them to the front. They were placed in a large bowl and Swivel placed his hands over the top and closed his eyes.

He smiled, “And a unanimous vote has been decided. Sanic Thunder, you have been chosen to be the representative of the quest. Does anyone want to argue in the decision?”

Suddenly, I stood up. All eyes turned to me. I wish I could have just melted into the ground.

“Wait, I… I… I detest. Um, well,” I looked at Josh for support. He nodded at me encouragingly.

I suddenly felt like a wave of new energy rush over me and my nervous state left me. “Don’t you guys see? It’s a trap, and we’re all falling for it. Cyan wants the chosen one to go defeat him. Sanic actually might have a chance of being the chosen one. And plus, is she supposed to defeat Cyan all by herself? She’s a godlow and he’s a god. She has no chance. What about the stone. Yes, with the stone, she can be the most powerful person in the universe. But without it, she’s just another one of us godlows. But, if she is going, then I wish her the best of luck because I’m sure she’ll need it.”

An awkward silence brushed round the room like a ghost. I saw Sanics face go red with anger. She looked at Swivel, then me, then my friends. She looked like she would blow up any minute. Swivel looked worried, like he was trying to make up his mind, but then saw the outcome. He finally looked like he knew what he was doing. He took a deep breath.

“Um, well it seems that Velocity does have a point. I guess I have to think about what to do,” he murmured, “I don’t know anyone as good as Sanic to accompany her on the quest.“

“I can go, I mean with a group of friends. And plus, it’s not like a level 1 godlow like me would be the chosen one,” I said. A few girls started giggling.

“Fine,” I said, my anger rising, “I challenge Sanic to a fight. If I win, the quest is mine. And if you win, you can go all by yourself.”

“Deal,” Sanic snarled, “but prepare to be beaten.” Everyone was staring at me, so I just sat down and looked at my unfinished plate of food. My heart was thumping, and I was sure that everyone could hear it.

Amelia stepped forward once again, she coughed loudly. “I hope that everyone can be encouraging to the person- or team that goes for this quest. As camp representatives, Nicolau and I will supply them with anything that they need. I will inform Tasmiya take care of your clothes and anything else there is to be designed. Other than that, you may carry on with your food.”

I suddenly didn’t feel that hungry. I picked at my food, unaware of the glances that I kept getting from people.

“Um, Velocity, I wanted to introduce you to my sister, Hannah,” Josh said. I looked up from my food. I noticed this young girl sitting next to Josh. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t noticed her! She was so cute with big eyes and short curly hair.

“Hello,” I smiled, “how old are you?”

“I’m eight,” she answered softly, “but peoples say that me doesn’t look eight because I’m so adorable!”

Josh rolled his eyes, “it’s I, not me. She’s actually pretty intelligent, you know. Her power is pretty cool as well; apparently she can turn invisible whenever she likes! Which she was just doing right now.”

“Oh, that’s probably why I couldn’t see her,” I said. My mind was still thinking about Sanic and the fight. My eyes must have looked really far away because Josh put his hand on my shoulder.

“You’ll be fine,” he whispered softly. But it was obvious he was just trying to make me feel better. He knew it, and so did I. It was going to take a miracle for me to beat Sanic.
