18. Chapter 18

"I FOUND IT," I heard Tammy yell. And she yelled as loud as she could.

"Tammy, this is a library, please keep your voice down," I said to her as she plopped an old leather bound book on a table in front of Alice and Anna, effectively cutting off their conversation.

"Who cares? It's not like anyone else is here," Symphony stated, sweeping her hand around the room to illustrate her point.

"Maybe, but I'd rather not have Tammy yelling at the top of her lungs," I replied, in a very diplomatic voice.

"What exactly have you found that warranted all the yelling," Bruce asked as he looked up from a complicated looking book written in English.

"Something to humble all the laws of nature and evolution," Tammy said grandly.

"Just open the book," Clint said as he walked out of an isle of books.

"No, I need to savor this moment," I said in high voice, my worst Tammy impersonation. Alice and Anna giggled, Adam looked on confused and Symphony snorted in amusement.

"That is not how I sound," Tammy said with wide eyes. She even lowered her voice to prove her point.

"What is that," Natasha asked as she came into the view of the book. "What does it even say?"

"'Frost Giants, Mortals, and Asgardians: The Secrets of the Three Worlds,'" Clint said reading the cover as if were in plain English.

"Your Joten has gotten better," Alice said in awe. She had taken to calling everything from Jotenheim a Joten. It's quiet annoying.

"It has, but that's not what it says exactly," Tammy said with a frown.

"Them please enlighten us," Natasha said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"It says 'Jotenheim, Midgard, and Asgard: The Secret World they Share,'" I said barely glancing at the cover. "Speaking of reading, Alice, you've made a lot of progress. Your speaking could do with a little work though."

"We all can't be flawless at everything," Alice snapped, but she smiled, letting us know she was only joking.

"It does NOT say that," Natasha said with a glare.

"Oh, and you can read Joten," I asked quickly. "Ask Symphony, Anna, and Adam, I'm sure that they can read it."

"That is indeed what is says," Adam said after looking at the cover a little longer than normal.

"Whatever. Why were you looking for it," Tasha asked, getting annoyed.

I ignored her and turned to Tammy. "Does it have both," I asked her.

Tammy flipped through the book for a moment until she found the page she was looking for, about 7/8 through the book. "Yeah. Both are looking a bit complicated though."

"I'd be surprised if they weren't," Clint said. His face was still a mask, but I could see excitement in his eyes.

"Which is less painful," Alice asked, voice serious all of a sudden.

"What are you looking for," Bruce asked with a sigh. He ran his hand through his hair in frustration.

"Ummm. We can't tell-" I began but was cut off be a voice in my head.

"Are you looking for that spell in particular," Heimdall asked.

"Yeah. Those two can't exactly have a normal relationship like this. Tammy would always fear she'd accidentally touch him while she was blue," I silently confided.

"Would you be apposed to Master Banner knowing what you are doing. It would not be good for suspicion to surface in the peace talks," Heimdall said.

"Would you tell him? I don't want Natasha over hearing. She might take it the wrong way."

"Of course. I must warn you, I will not always be able to carry your messages," Heimdall said. He wasn't being annoying or anything, just stating the obvious.

"You won't have to if I can find a way around this spell," I said cheekily.

"Good luck with that. As soon as you do, I will alter the spell."

I noticed everyone staring at me. "What I asked?"

"You stopped talking in the middle of a sentence five minutes ago and you've been silent and still for all that time," Bruce said with an odd look on his face.

"Sorry, just lost my train of thought," I said with a shrug. No one believed me, and everyone, save Natasha, knew I was talking with Heimdall. He probably filled in the Lockhearts at the same time as Bruce.

"What were you doing," Natasha asked suspiciously as she stared at me with dead eyes.

"It's fine Agent Romanov," Bruce said with a wave of his hand. He looked troubled, but contemplating his new information.

"Which is less painful," I asked again. Everyone turned to Tammy.

"M to F," she said cryptically. No one that knew what was going on needed more than that.

"What is going on," Jane asked as she came in the door from another room in the library.

"We found what we were looking for. M to F seems to be less painful," Clint said. She already knew what they were looking for, she had given them the idea to try the library before she left with Thor after returning from Jotenheim for the first time.

"Oh, are you going to go through with it," Jane asked as she sat down in a chair next to Bruce.

"Yes," he said. "As soon as I know what needs to be done."

"We're going to need help from you and Loki," Tammy told me as she looked up from the book.

"Need my help with what," Loki asked appearing out of nowhere.

"When did you get out," Alice asked in surprise.

"He hasn't. I'm guessing that your multitasking, am I right," I asked him.

"Yes. This became dreadfully dull after speeches began to repeat," he said. "But I have to pay attention incase there is something new."

"How are you in two places at once," Symphony asked, obviously untrusting. Before he answered her question, probably extremely cryptically, I threw a big book at Loki's face. He didn't even attempt to dodge as it flew towards him.

The book passed harmlessly through Loki's image and clattered to the floor. I went and picked it up, putting it back where I found it.

"What would have happened if you actually hit him," Anna asked shocked that I threw something at my husband.

"It would have hit him and I would have laughed by butt off," Tammy said uninterestedly.

"I know when he's using that trick, but no one else seems to," I told her pulling the book towards me.

"What do you need my help with," Loki asked again, getting back on topic.

"Remember what Tammy and Clint were looking for?" I asked him. Loki nodded. "That spell. It seems it's easier for Clint to do it."

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT," Natasha screamed.

"Are you sure," Loki asked, ignoring the angry spy.

"Yeah, look," I said as I turned the book towards him. Loki read through the pages, staring intensely, trying to find anything amiss.

Loki nodded as he looked at it more and more. "You do realize that if this doesn't work you can never attempt it again, or in reverse," Loki asked Tammy.

"Yeah, but it's better than trying nothing," she shot back.

"Well, that should be an interesting sight to see. Do you mind if I help out," Jane asked with real interest.

"Sure, anyone can," Alice said as she looked up.

"I'm not helping," Peter said. "Sorry, but I wouldn't be much use."

"Come on! You'd be great," Alice said, trying to convince him.

"No, he's right, unfortunately," I said with a sigh. "Peter, your utterly hopeless at magic."

Peter smirked at Alice. "Told you so." Alice didn't like the smirk so much and hit Peter over his head.

"Yeah, and now you'll help me with shopping," Alice said as her lips turned up into an evil smile.

"Oh no," he whispered.

"What magic," Tasha asked, taking a deep breath to control her anger.

"Can't tell you," I said distractedly.

"You might take it the wrong way," Symphony added. Clint nodded as Natasha looked at him for conformation.

"She will find out. When that day comes, no one will be safe. You should tell her now," Adam said, speaking for the first time.

"I agree with Mr. Divine," Loki said surprising us all. "I will probably tell her anyway to see her reaction."

"You wouldn't dare," Tammy said in a low voice.

"He's just being honest. And, I might have, maybe, thought of doing the same thing," I said as I ducked as Tammy aimed a slap at my head.

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!" Natasha screamed.

"Just tell her," Clint said with a sigh and a shake of his head.

"Tammy and Clint have been looking for something for a long time now. It is a certain spell, one that needs much perpetration and strong magic," Loki began. "Clint Barton is about to become one of my subjects."

"You mean..." Natasha began.

"Yes. The spell is going to turn Clint Barton into a frost giant," Loki said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Natasha was shocked into the 'can't-talk' stage of ultimate shock. Next came the screaming. And we all thought Tammy and Alice were loud, we wee all wrong.
