It's Kind of a Coincidence

Bella had a kidney transplant when she was sixteen years old. Two years later, she is able to meet her donor, even if she doesn't really want to. Her donor is Tregory Jones. What Bella wasn't counting on was for him to be a beautiful, just out of his teens, boy with the personality of a god.

12. The good enough rant.

I pull away from the kiss, smiling the happiest smile. He looks at me, smiling back and then laughs.

"Oh you know it's true anyway." he nudges me.

"I know." I nudge him back and he pulls me closer to him so now I'm full on, on top of him and he kisses me again. Between the moments our lips touch, I manage to say "I love you, too."

When I say it, I feel him smile and pull me even closer, if that's possible. I roll back off him and onto the bed, smiling at him.

"It's kind of a coincidence, isn't it?" I say to him.

He takes a piece of my hair, absentmindedly twirling it around. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, I could have had anybody as a kidney donor and you could have donated your kidney to anybody. Yet, we both found our perfect match through it. It's kind of insane."

"It is freaking insane, isn't it?" he says. "Like, I think usually, you meet someone in school or something like that and you think 'They're the best option' so you sort of train yourself to like them."

"I think that's a stupid trait of humans. We just train ourselves to get along with each other and we train ourselves to get by on the 'good enough'. Why does nobody push themselves anymore? I don't get why everybody is so... safe. Everybody settles for less than they deserve because it's better than nothing. I don't want to do that. I want to either have everything or lose everything trying because I don't think there would be anything worse than dying after living a life full of good enoughs."

I breathe, relieved, afterwards. All of that is sort of a rule that I have been living by but I've never told anybody because it just hasn't come up. Trey is just looking at me, his eyes sparkling happily with those amazing specks of green showing through.

"Are you okay?" I ask, a little unsure, wondering whether I should have opened up so much.

"No wonder I've fallen in love with you."
