10. Flashback.

Hazel's P.O.V

"She spread joy to everyone, put a smile on their faces when they were feeling down. Patricia Malik will be missed..." The priest spoke.

It's been a week since her death. There was alot of people in Patricia Malik's funeral, most of them were famliy. I heard Zayn starting to cry. I reached for his hand and held it tight, letting him know that I'm here for him.

"It'll be alright." I whispered to Zayn, slowly looking up at him.

He looked down at me, nodding one time before kissing my forehead.

"Only if you stay." He whispered stroking my hand with his thumb.

"I'll stay." I said with a weak smile.

Zayn and I walked up to my porch, we stopped in front of the front door before I faced him, looking into his eyes, "Would you like to come in?" I asked.

"What about your mom?" He asked.

"I want her to know about you." I told him before opening the front door, stepping inside I saw my mom coming into the hall.

She gave Zayn a dirty look before looking over at me, "Mom, this is Zayn. He's my boyfriend." I told her.

"Where have you been?" She asked changing subject.

"I was at his mother's funeral, she passed away last week." I said.

She glanced over at Zayn, looking at him up and down, "Can I talk to you? In the kitchen?" She asked me.

I nodded, "Just sit down in the livingroom." I told Zayn before walking into the kitchen with my mom.

"That was quick." She said crossing her arms over her chest.

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"It's only been two weeks since you and Austin broke up."

"Yes I know, but Zayn is much better."

"He doesn't look better."

"Don't judge a book by its cover mom."

"Honey, are you sure you won't go back to Austin?"

"He cheated mom! I don't care if you wanted me to be with him just because he's rich. He never told me he loved me, Zayn is so much better, just give him a chance."

"He looks like a street boy." She mumbled.

"Stop judging mom! You don't even know him." I almost yelled.

"I'm sorry honey, it's just, I never thought a girl like you could possibly go for a boy like him."

"Well, you're wrong." I told her.

Walking into the livingroom I saw that Zayn was gone, "Zayn?" I said loud.

"I'm here." I heard him shout from Jaden's room.

Walking upstairs I saw that he was playing FIFA 14 with Jaden.

"Motherfucker you're going down!" Jaden shouted.

"Then why do I have more goals than you, asshole!" Zayn shouted.

"Watch the language boys." I giggled as they glanced up at me before focusing on the TV again.

"Sorry." They said in sync.

I heard it knock on the door downstairs, closing the door again I walked down the stairs and over to the front door. Opening the door, my eyes widened and I got a huge twist in my stomach as I stood face to face with my dad...

(seven years ago)

"Why are you home so early?" I heard my mom ask my dad as I layed in my bed with Jaden in my arms.

I was scared, everytime dad was home he beats us up. I'm eleven and Jaden is eight.

"Is that a fucking problem?" We heard dad shout and some glasses break.

"N-no! Of course n-not!" Mom stuttered.

Jaden and I jumped when suddenly we heard mom scream, "Mommy." Jaden screamed before I held over his mouth.

"Quiet Jaden, it'll be alright." I whispered into his ear.

"Where's the kids?" Dad shouted.

"Leave them alone, David!" Mom cried.

I stood up from bed, pushing Jaden under the bed, "Stay there, and don't make a sound!" I whispered to him.

He nodded in response as I saw tears running down his face. Suddenly the door shut open, dad looked at me with so much hate in his eyes.

"Daddy, please." I begged but he didn't listen.

He rushed over to me and grabbed me by my hair, throwing me down on the floor before he kicked my stomach.

"Where's Jaden?" He shouted grabbing my throat holding me against the floor.

"He's not home!" I lied with tears streaming down my face.

He let go of me as he stood up straight, looking around the room, "I know you're in here Jaden." He said walking towards the bed. I ran out of the bedroom and saw mom lying on the floor with blood on her face.

"Mommy." I whispered shaking her until she opened her eyes.

"Call... The police." She whispered.

I ran over to the phone dialing the police phone number. After I talked to them I heard Jaden scream.

"Jaden!" I shouted running back into the bedroom.

Dad was holding him up in the air by his throat.

"Get off him you monster!" I shouted running over to him punching him and kicking him.

He let go of Jaden who landed on the bed, dad looked at me. I backed a few steps before he kicked me back, I flew back until I hit the wall and suddenly everything blacked out.

I woke up again but in my bed, Jaden was asleep next to me. I groaned before standing up, trying not to wake up Jaden, he had a huge bruise around his eye. I walked out to the livingroom, mom was sitting on the couch drinking tea. She had bruises on her face and arms.

"Where is he?" I asked quietly.

"The police took him." She replied, her eyes were filled with tears.
